William A. "Jake" Davis, Jr.

William A. "Jake" Davis, Jr., 79, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005. He was born in Fort Smith to the late William A. Davis, Sr. and Fern Conley Davis.

Jake was a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, serving as a flight instructor of B-24s and B-25s. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he was a Razorback Letterman and a member of the 1947 Cotton Bowl Team. He met and marriage Tommye Arbogast while both were students at the university.

Jake had a long career in retail truck and trailer sales. His dry wit and love of people made him a perfect salesman. During his career, he worked at Freuhauf Trailer, International Harvester, Mack Truck, and retired as manager of Peterbilt of Arkansas.

An avid racecar fan all of his life, after retirement he enjoyed working as a crewman and transport driver on his son's NASCAR race team. One of his most prized possessions was his 2002 Daytona 500 Championship ring. A member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Jake and Tommye enjoyed the Friday night service - so they could watch the NASCAR race on Sundays.

More recently, Jake enjoyed visiting and working on Bill and Gail's Chimney Rock Cattle Ranch near Batesville.

Jake was a loving and proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took great delight and interest in his children and grandchildren's lives. He was loved by many, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Tommye Arbogast Davis; daughter, Diane Lord and husband Fletcher Lord, Jr. of Little Rock; son, William A. "Bill" Davis, III, and wife Gail of Batesville and High Point, NC; grandchildren, Conley Golden and husband Alex of Little Rock, Fletcher Lord, III and wife Jessica of Jamestown, NC, and Katherine Lord of Little Rock; and one great-granddaughter, Evan Elizabeth Golden.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2005 at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2005 in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Vic Nixon. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, or to the charity of donor's choice.

Sara Lyn Pierce Dailey

Sara Lyn Pierce Dailey, 40, of Little Rock, died Saturday at Baptist Health.

Survivors: mother, Sharon Gail Johnson; father, Mickey Pierce; son, Joshua Scott of California; two sisters, one brother; grandmothers, Dorothy Johnson and Hazel Pierce.

A memorial service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 600 S. Rodney Parham, in Little Rock.

Pete Crites

A country boy all his life, Pete Crites, age 82, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 and will be committed at a private graveside service near his birth place in Rover, Arkansas today. He was born on April 16, 1922 to Herschel and Myrtle Crites in Yell County.

An unusually quiet and private man, he was nonetheless a devoted and loving human being to his family, friends, pets and surviving spouse, Audrey T. Crites of North Little Rock.

He grew up in a large rural family and loved working outdoors, baseball, old cars, flea markets, his small gun collection, Wal-Mart, growing, canning, freezing and cooking his own food, chocolate covered cherries, his gas-powered tiller, animals, especially his dogs and his black cat Tutu. At Christmas he was known for his special fruit-cake and cocoon cookies. In summers he made sure the family was well-stocked with fresh vegetables.

Although he would rather have stayed in Yell County, he served with pride and distinction in World War II in the U.S. Army, Company E. 127th Infantry, receiving the Purple Heart when he was wounded at Luzon, Philippines and served the remainder of his tour in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1949.

After the war he worked as a dietetics supervisor in food service at the V.A. Hospital at Fort Roots in North Little Rock until he retired in 1972.

His greatest joy was spoiling dogs and children. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Rodney and her spouse Richard of England, Arkansas, one daughter-in-law, Judy Crites of Camden, and six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. He is predeceased by his son Shelby Crites. In mid-life he remarried and gained another family, including two stepdaughters, Gayle Gardner and her spouse Jerry of North Little Rock; Betsy Singleton and her spouse Victor Snyder of Little Rock; and three stepsons, including Jack Singleton and his spouse Carolyn of North Little Rock; Tom Singleton of North Little Rock; and Steve Singleton and his spouse Becky of Mountain Home.

The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, February 24 at the Gardners' home at 310 East "A" Avenue in Park Hill from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Memorials can be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County.

Don Patrick Comer

Don Patrick Comer age 54, of Roland, Arkansas died Wednesday, February 16, 2005. He was born in Elmhurst, Illinois. After graduating from high school in Chicago Don joined the U. S. Army obtaining the rank of sergeant and served in the United States European Command as a photographer and surveyor. After his time in the military he became a locomotive engineer with the Union Pacific Railroad. Don loved playing football and tennis as well as hunting and fishing. He was member of Crosswalk Family of God Church and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Don is survived by his mother Virginia Rose Griggs Comer of Venice, Florida, his wife Gabriele Brigitte "Gabie" Peschel Comer of Roland, his sister Michelle Weiner of Park Ridge, Illinois, his niece Jeralynn Weiner, and nephew Jeffery Weiner. He will miss his animals Lady, Yoda and Kit.

There will be a memorial service Saturday at 1pm at the Ruebel Funeral Home chapel officiated by Jeff Hamm. Services are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Crosswalk Family of God Church, in memory of Don Comer, 10600 Colonial Glenn Road, Little Rock 72209.

Suzanne Posey Webre

Suzanne Posey Webre, age 46, of Little Rock died, February 5, 2005. She was born on November 3, 1958 in Little Rock to Suzanne and the late Malcolm Webre. She was a licensed massage therapist with a love of animals and nature and had a nurturing spiritual soul.

She is survived by her mother, Suzanne Webre; grandmother, Josephine Hamilton; five brothers, Mark Webre and his wife Nancy, Luke Webre and his wife Theresa, Matthew Webre and his wife Melanie, Andrew Webre and his wife Sarah all of Little Rock, and Peter Webre of New Braunfels, TX; aunt, Sally Stout of Santa Barbara, CA. Posey was preceded in death by her father, Malcom Webre; grandfather, Barrett Hamilton Sr., and uncle, Barrett Hamilton, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the home of Suzanne Webre at 2406 North Grant, Little Rock on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 PM. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family requests memorials be made to, Heifer International, P.O. Box 8058, Little Rock, AR. 72203, Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, AR 72210., or the Benedictine Sisters, 1914 West Main Street, Russellville, AR. 72201.

Elizabeth "Betty" Cook Stegall

Elizabeth "Betty" Cook Stegall died Monday, February 21, 2005. Born December 17, 1923, in Little Rock, daughter of James N. and Esther Cook.

She was a loving mother and wife and is survived by her husband of 54 years, Carroll Stegall, a son, Bob Stegall of Dallas, Tex., daughter, Barbara Nowlin of Little Rock, granddaughter, Anne David of Denver, Col., grandson, Chas Williamson of Dallas, Tex., one great-grandchild, Jack David of Denver, Col., and a sister, Jane Walton of Little Rock.

She attended the University of Arkansas where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma and also Little Rock Junior College. She was a past president of the Delphi Club and the River Ridge Garden Club; and she belonged to Pleasant Valley Country Club where she was an avid tennis player. She belonged to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, AR 72205 or Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, AR 72204.

There will be a visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.

Robert Musick Squire

Robert Musick Squire, 56, of Little Rock, died Friday, February 25, 2005 at St. Vincent's Arkansas Hospice. He was born in Fort Smith on November 24, 1948 to the late Arthur Squire, Sr. and Nancy Ann Ponder Squire.

Robert graduated from Northside High School in Fort Smith, and in Junior High School, he was the National Champion of the 1964 Science Fair for his hovercraft design. He attended Westark Community College for two years, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was active in both the U of A Choir and in the Westark College Choir.

While in High School, he met Sharon Griffin - he was in the marching band, she was in the choir. The two later dated in High School, Junior College, and then during their final two years of College. They marriage in 1974, and have continued dating for over 30 years.

Robert retired from SBC after 30 years of service as a manager. His duties included the Arkansas Intralata Toll Pool and installation and repair. He was a member of the International Lions Club, the Greater Enid, Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce, the River City Jaycees, and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He was on the board of Arkansas Children's Dreams, and was the past President of the Briggs Evening Lions Club in Enid, OK. He was a Boy Scout in Troop 10 in Quincy, IL, and Troop 23 in Fort Smith - receiving the Order of the Arrow and later becoming an Eagle Scout. Later, he became a Cub Scout Master while attending the U of A in Fayetteville.

Survivors include his wife of over 30 years, Sharon Griffin Squire; daughter, Melissa Ann Squire; son, Robert Justin Squire and wife Holly Marie; brother, Dr. Arthur Edwin Squire, Jr. and wife Nan, all of Little Rock; and three nieces, Laura Trott of Memphis, TN, Sarah Squire of Baton Rouge, LA, and Anna Squire of Conway.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2005 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by the Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Burial will follow in Mount Holly Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Andrew Trott, Bill Holder, David King, John E. Allman, Frank Hamlin, John Tisdale, and Harold Smith.

Elza N. Roberts

Elza N. Roberts, 100, of Little Rock died Saturday, February 26, 2005. She was born January 29, 1905, in Paron, Ark., to the late Davidson and Maggie Childress Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayland Roberts, Sr. and son, Wayland Roberts, Jr.

Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and a faithful member of Baptist Tabernacle, which is now Parkway Place Baptist Church for 80 years. She was a woman of prayer. She loved the Lord, her family, her church, and she leaves a great legacy. Her home was very much a part of her ministry, especially her cooking.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Higgins, six grandchildren, Diana Higgins Hughes, Wayne Higgins, Anita Higgins, Tonya Higgins Gibbs, Wayland Roberts III, Larry Roberts and their spouses, nine great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and her 103 year old sister, Luddie Waters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home with Rev. James Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Fowler Cemetery near Paron.
