Doris Clark James

Doris Clark James, 82, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2005. She was born in Prairie Grove, AR on October 2, 1923 and was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and Fayetteville Business College. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Clara Carl Clark and nephew Marc Langston. She is survived by her three sons, William C. Keeton and wife Marlene of Fayetteville; Robert James of Little Rock; Stephen James and wife, Mary Sue of Brenham, TX; daughter Carla Bolton and husband Bill of Hot Springs Village; sister Carlyn Wilbourn and husband Sanford of Little Rock, one grandchild, Kerry Keeton of Haines City, FL and three Great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Carolyn and Samantha Keeton. Doris is also survived by her nieces, Ann Cooper, Laurie Brooks, Sandy Watson, and nephew Harold ”Hodie” Langston.

She lived in Little Rock since 1972 and was retired from the State of Arkansas Department of Disability Determination and served as secretary of her AARP Chapter. Doris was a longtime bridge player. She loved being around her family and friends and enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays. She was well known for her sense of humor and outgoing feisty personality.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi, at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2005 officiated by Rev. Rocki Proffitt. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Arkansas, 10411 W. Markham, Little Rock, 72205 or Hospice Home Care, 2200 S. Bowman Rd. Little Rock, 72211. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Lila Bond Matthews Hornor
Obituary Notice

Lila Bond Matthews Hornor, age 90, of Little Rock, died Tuesday December 6th, 2005. She was born at her home in Little Rock, to the late John Barnitz and Alice Plunkett Bond.

Lila is survived by her younger sister, Judy Bond Ledbetter, and her beloved grand-daughter, Lila Somers Adkisson Collins “Somers”. Lila is survived by many loving relatives, only three of whom are direct descendants. These are her three adoring great-grandchildren: Andrew Joseph III, Lila Bond and William Benjamin Collins. Also surviving her is Andy Collins, husband of Somers Collins and father to Andrew, Lila and Will. Each great-grandchild enjoyed a unique and loving relationship with their extraordinary great-grandmother.

Born Lila Plunkett Bond in Little Rock, she was the eldest of a trio of beautiful and spirited sisters: the aforementioned Judy Ledbetter and Josephine Temple, who died in 1988, and younger brother Tommy Bond who died in 1933. Lila marriage Thomas Somers "Newk" Matthews, one of four children of Justin "Big Pop" Matthews, the visionary real estate mogul who assembled the land owned by Metropolitan Trust Company, General Properties, Inc. and Crestwood Companies.

Lila and "Newk" had two beautiful daughters together: Lila Ann Matthews (Adkisson) and Somers Matthews. Tragically, both daughters predeceased their parents.

As the only child born to Lila Ann and The Honorable Richard B. Adkisson, and after her mother's untimely death in 1959, Lila Somers Adkisson Collins (called "Somers") spent a great deal of time with her grandmother. Lila Hornor became what South Americans call a "mother/grandmother" to young Somers and the two enjoyed a most extraordinary bond.

After "Newk" Matthews died in 1969, Lila marriage James Tappan Hornor, with whom she enjoyed 23 years of marriage. Mr. Hornor predeceased Lila in 1995. Lila continued a close relationship with Mr. Hornor's daughters Mary Sue Hornor, Laura Hornor, and Maggie Koone. She was also a loving grandmother to MarySue and John Jacobs children Lisa Jacobs Burgess, and John Hornor Jacobs, and, great-grandmother to their children, Jake and Maggie Burgess, and Lily and Helen Jacobs.

Lila Hornor had many friends to whom she was very loyal. Lila was an avid bridge player and enjoyed gardening and painting as well. She was happiest when she spent summers with her beloved grand-daughter and her family in Ludington, Michigan as well as when she spent holidays with her entire, extended families.

Lila Bond Matthews Hornor lived a long and full life. She was "matter of fact" in her philosophy and expressed her beliefs not so much in words but in the exemplary way she lead her life. She served for many years on The Board of Directors for the historic Mount Holly Cemetery and was a dedicated member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church Altar Guild. In addition, Lila was a proud member of The Junior League of Little Rock and a member of the Country Club of Little Rock.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Richard Garland Harrison

Richard Garland Harrison, age 89, of Little Rock, was born to Claude Garland and Margaret Harrison on December 13th, 1916 in Little Rock. He is preceded in death by one brother Claude and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edwin R. Harrison ; two sons, Richard Harrison of Ono Island, Alabama and Stephen E. Harrison of Little Rock, and one daughter, Susan Rebecca Harrison of Cypress, CA; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Richard or Dick as he was sometimes known by his friends served in the Army Air Force during WWII, upon his return home, he founded Welder's Supply Company, which later became Welsco Inc. He loved sports cars, boating, flying and collecting WWII memorabilia. He was active in Lakeside Country Club, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Troop 28 BSA, along with his Sunday School Class. His collections of military weapons and vehicles have been distributed to area museums one of which Grant County Museum dedicated a Richard G. Harrison wing.

Mr. Harrison's life will be celebrated in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ed Simpson officiating. Burial will be private.

Mattie Mae Hardaway

Mrs. Mattie Mae Hardaway of Little Rock, age 89, passed on after a brief illness on Saturday, December 10, 2005, in Little Rock. She was a native of Louisiana, and lived in Texarkana, Arkansas, 1941 through 1984. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock and a former member of First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, Arkansas.

She was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and her husband of 25 years, C. Norwood Hardaway, who died in 1962. Mrs. Hardaway is survived by her only child, Tyna H. Moore and her husband, Jim; one beloved granddaughter, Sarah Moore Merayo and her husband, Humberto; two sisters, Exa (Mrs. J. D.) Ross of Texarkana and Columbia, South Carolina; and Era (Mrs. Edward) Mitchell of Magnolia, Arkansas; four nephews and one niece.

Graveside service will be at 1p.m. on Wednesday in the Hardaway family plot at Old Town Cemetery, Haynesville, Louisiana.

Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul UMC, 2223 Durwood, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72207; or First UMC, 400 E. 6th St., Texarkana 71854.

Harry Chesney Haney

Harry Chesney Haney, age 83, of Little Rock, died on December 6, 2005. He was born on April 25, 1922 in Little Rock, to the late Jerry and Clara Jones Haney. He graduated from the University of Arkansas where he developed a lifelong devotion the Arkansas Razorbacks. He served as a flight instructor for the US Army Air Corps.he worked for the Social Security Administration for 32 years Mr. Haney enjoyed traveling, singing in the church choir, and sharing a good meal. After retirement, he was an active volunteer for many years with the Camden Public School System, and was once named Volunteer of the Year by the Arkansas Times. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and formally a member of The First United Methodist Church in Camden, AR.

Mr. Haney is survived by his wife of 60 years, LaNell Blundell Haney; his three daughters, Linda Muldrow and husband Lee of Little Rock, Leesa Renshaw and husband Don of Little Rock, and Jerri Gillespie and husband Kevin of Bentonville. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Brian and Kelly Muldrow, Price Shankle, and Aubrey, Grant, and Brittany Gillespie.

Mr. Haney enriched the lives of his family and friends with his quick wit, great sense of humor, and his loving spirit. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7 PM. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home on Friday at 1:00 PM with Rev. David Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Albert Ross Glover

Albert Ross Glover, beloved husband, father, and friend, age 59, of Little Rock, went to meet his maker Sunday, December 3, 2005. Ross owned and operated a large construction and excavation company with his business partner Gary Carpenter until his retirement. He was currently co-owner of Sav-Mor Mobile Homes with business partner Tony Pierce.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Hubbard Glover; son, Daniel Ross Glover; two step-daughters; and an aunt, Algrine Watson.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Larry Ballard.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that bushes or trees be delivered to the home to be planted in his memory. Memorial donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited of Arkansas.

Cremation and service arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham, Little Rock.

Dr. Charles Fitzgerald

Charles Patrick Fitzgerald, M.D. of Little Rock, died Monday. He was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, the son of Charles Andrew and Nellie Christine Cook Fitzgerald of Frankfort. Charles was a graduate of Frankfort High School before attending Vanderbilt University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in Physics. He was also selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended Vanderbilt Medical School where he also served his internship and residence. After a Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Texas in Dallas he began his practice in Cardiology in Little Rock in 1986. Dr. Fitzgerald was an avid reader especially concerning the Bible and American history. His lectures and teachings of various subjects were rejoiced by many. He was also known for his less than humorous jokes he insisted telling.

He is survived by his wife Martha Elise Deitz Fitzgerald of Little Rock, 2 daughters, Elise and Emily, 2 sons Drew and David all of Little Rock, 1 brother Tom Fitzgerald and wife Barbara of Frankfort, Kentucky, 1 sister Kim Eckerle and husband Bruce of Louisville, Kentucky, and is predeceased by a brother John who died in 1980.

There will be a memorial service 11am Thursday at Fellowship Bible Church officiated by Reverend Bill Parkinson. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be sent to Fellowship Bible Church, 1901 Napa Valley Drive, Little Rock 72211.

Don Hilliard Cameron

Don Hilliard Cameron, age 72, of Wye Mountain, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at his home.

He was born in Little Rock on July 12, 1933 to the late Donald H. Cameron, Sr. and Mary Galloway Cameron. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Summit Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Lewis Cameron; daughters Cynthia Christie and husband Ronald of Morrilton, Catherine Ross and husband Joe of Fayetteville; brothers Jack Cameron and wife Gay, Rod Cameron and wife Pam; sister, Judy Mooser and husband Storie; grandchildren Lew Christie and wife Sharla, Joshua Ross, Christopher Ross and wife Sarah, Lindsay Ross, and Whitney Ross; two great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Hershey.

The family would like to extend special appreciation to Marjorie Dixon and Mary Beth Rodden of Hospice Home Care.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home officiated by Mike South.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County, 14600 Col. Glenn Rd., Little Rock, 72210.

Cremation and service arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.
