Wanda J. Jones

Wanda J. Jones, 67, of Ozark, sister of Ray (PeeWee) Jones of Knoxville, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.

She was a former employee of Arkansas Valley Technical Institute and the Franklin County Extension Service, charter member of the Ozark Recreation Club and the Little Creek Country Club, member of the Ozark First United Methodist Church, native of Ozark, and daughter of the late Thomas Lester and Orah Hardcastle.

She is survived by one sister, Marye Jayne Pendleton of Fort Smith; one other brother, Harold Faye Jones of Ozark; and eight nieces and nephews including Donna Lannam of Clarksville.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Ozark First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Wyers and Rev. Roger Glover officiating.

Burial was in Highland cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Active pallbearers were Charles Ray White, Eddie Melton, David Myers, Michael Cuce, Don Farris, Jeff Farris, Burl White and James Brandenburger.

Honorary pallbearers were classmates of 1949 including Bob Harris, Johnny Barham, JoAnn Phillips, Gail Hillard, Porter Hillard, Bob Horn, Bea Gilsinger, Nadine Bishop, Mary Faye Smith, JoAnn Hughes, Annette Cole, Wilma Carson, Paul Acord, Billie Keck, and Mary Skelton.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 503 West Commercial, Ozark, AR 72949.

David Overbey

David Overbey, 62, of Toronto, Canada, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998.

He was the son of the late David Arch and Oacie Manning Overbey of Lamar, native of Detroit, Mich., educated at Wayne State University, a film critic on TV in California, a teacher at Tulane University, a journalist, worked with film specializing in Asia, and a filmfest programmer for Toronto since 1977.

He is survived by an aunt, Catherine Cullins of Lamar; and several cousins including George Overbey Jr. of Lamar.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jerry Lee Kirby

Jerry Lee Kirby, 55, of Ozark, brother of Patricia Patterson of Clarksville, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.

He was a retired foreman with Arkansas Valley Electric, Mason, member of the Shriners, Methodist, and son of the late Gerald Lee Kirby.

Other survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Kirby of Portales, N. M., and Catherine Allison Kirby of Ozark; mother, Venice Wheeless Kirby of Ozark; one brother, Jim Kirby of Barling; and three grandchildren, Zachary Jordan Kirby and Megan Nicole Turner, both of Ozark, and Kelsey Elizabeth Teague of Portales, N. M.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Grenades Chapel with Rev. Ted Darling officiating.

Burial will be in Jackson cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Active pallbearers will be Ed Wilkinson, Dee Kirby, David Davidson, Robert Ritchie, Ted Skolarski, and Mike Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Farris, Kenneth Ross, Ike Pointer, Burl Vaught, Guy Foster, L. D. Holland, Vivian Holland, Bill Denniston, Gary Turner, and Larry Hardcastle.

Marvin Keith Cook

Marvin Keith Cook, 41, of Hartman died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Ventura, Calif., son of the late Verna (Goodin) and Windle Cook Jr., restaurant manager, former member of the Clarksville Jaycees, attended the Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by one sister, Sheila Cook Cagle.

He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Tom Bowen of Hartman; one brother, Phillip Cook of Hartman; three nieces, Paula Gilmer and Ginny Bentrum, both of Lamar, and Stacy Bowen of Hartman; four nephews, Jason Cook of Clarksville, Jody Gilmer of Lamar, and Windle Bowen and Terry Bowen, both of Hartman; two great-nephews, Phillip Cook and Joey Gilmore; one brother-in-law, Johnny Cagle of Hartman; three aunts; and one uncle.

Graveside services and burial were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Hartman cemetery with Rev. Darrel Rogers and Rev. Sally Ladd officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Gary Goza, Lance Storms, Michael Slone, Rusty Forehand, Vince Wadley, and Donnie Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike Farris and David Evans.

Mrs. Mona Lea Still

Graveside services and burial for Mrs. Mona Lee (Mammie) Still, 66, who died Dec. 15, 1998, were at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Lamar cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Homes, Inc., of Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was a native of Oklahoma City, Okla., daughter of the late Jesse and Ethel Quick Statser, widow of William S. (Bill) Still, and retired Oklahoma City, Okla., firefighter.

Survivors include three daughters, Gwynn Ellen Hawthorne, Sandra Brown Porter, and Jo Huffman; seven grandchildren, Ty Hawthorne, Jerald Hawthorne, Henry Brown, Jenny Brown, Jackie Brown, William (Bucky) Huffman, and Lisa Huffman; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Netta M. Taylor

Mrs. Netta May Taylor, 92, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was born in the Rocky Community west of Mena, daughter of the late George W. and Kate McKinney Barber, widow of Ruel Taylor, attended public school at Rocky, member of extension homemakers clubs at Mt. Vernon and Ludwig, active in Mt. Vernon and Mt. Airy cemetery associations, member of East Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and member of Belle Grove Chapter No. 56 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past worthy matron and served as grand representative to Scotland.

She is survived by two daughters, Louise Taylor of Grand Junction, Colo., and Rueline Turner of Clarksville; one sister, Pansy Chenault of Russellville; one brother, I. E. Barber of Mena; four grandchildren, Pam Jones and Mitzie Sears, both of Clarksville, Kathy Patton of Russellville, and Robert Turner of Fort Smith; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Vernon cemetery.

Mrs. Robbie C. Justice

Mrs. Robbie C. Justice, 66, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Sam and Emogene Newton Chenault, widow of Dr. Roy Justice, and member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Mangum of Dallas, Texas, and Nona Rumman of Fayetteville; one son, Eddie Willis of Wichita Falls, Texas; five sisters, Charlotte Callaway and Mary Nell Webb, both of Chicago, Ill., Rev. Patricia Chenault of San Antonio, Texas, Jessie Heidleberg of Clarksville, and Eugenia McKinney of Fort Smith; three brothers, Joe Chenault and Lloyd Chenault, both of McKinney, Texas, and Floyd Chenault of Wichita Falls, Texas; and three grandchildren, Audra May Tasco and Lanitra Dodson, both of Clarksville, and Assefa Egziabher of Fayetteville.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Chenault officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Roscoe Gordon Sr., Roscoe Gordon Jr., Sam Chenault, Franklin Bagsby Jr., Claude May, and Tony York.

Honorary pallbearers were Richard Evans, Floyd Chenault Jr., and Alan Chenault.
