Alton E. Stokes

Alton E. Stokes, 87, of Ozark died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late R. W. and Eliza Green Stokes, a retired surveyor with Arkansas Rural Electric, and a member of the Ozark First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Billie Morton Stokes; two sisters, Ercie Woolsey of Ozark and Elva Plemons of Alma; one brother, Leo Stokes of Ozark; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial in Highland cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Bob Brown, Frank Sutherland, Randy Gilbreth, Faye Cloos, and C. A. Kuykendall.
Honorary pallbearers were Doyle Ducket, Oscar Debes, Ed Hicks, Demus Anderson, Bill Young, Ed Milton, Tom White, and L. B. Hood.
Memorials may be made to Ozark First United Methodist Church, 503 West Commercial, Ozark, AR 72949.

Mrs. Betty Corbishley

Mrs. Betty Corbishley, 65, of Hartman died Saturday, March 27, 1999.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Corbishley; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Corbishley of Hartman and Ray and Tammy Corbishley of Little Rock; four daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Jimmy Head of Little Rock, Carol and Butch Warren of Clarksville, Billie and Rick Crandall of Fort Smith, and Charlene and Michael Johnson of Benton; mother, Rachel Warren of Clarksville; and seven grandchildren, Ronnie Thompson and Michael Warren, both of Clarksville, Jon Crandall and Natasha Crandall, both of Fort Smith, Megan Corbishley of Bryant, Acee Johnson of Benton, and Jimmy Head Jr. of Little Rock.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Woodland cemetery with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
The grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Clinton Mathews

Clinton Mathews, 79, father of Mrs. Kenneth (Sheila) Milam of Ozone, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Montford Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, Miss.
He was a native of Meadville, Miss., a retired master sergeant in the U. S. Air Force having served in World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War, and was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Rae Painting Mathews, four sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by one other daughter, Rhonda Sole of Purvis, Miss.; one son, Andre Mathews of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Jimmie Burris of McCall Creek, Miss., and Clarabell Mathews of Baton Rouge, La.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial with full military honors were conducted by Rev. Leon Dunn at Mt. Stevens cemetery in Independence, Miss.

Mrs. Ellen Mae Pledger

Mrs. Ellen Mae Pledger, 84, of Fort Smith, formerly of Coal Hill, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Sparks Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Drumright, Okla., daughter of the late John and Bell Jackson Kilgore, a member of Bible Baptist Church in Fort Smith, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Pledger.
She is survived by three daughters, Pearlie Robertson and Irene Pledger, both of Fort Smith, and Ellen Estes of Van Buren; seven sons, Rev. Roy Pledger of Heavener, Okla., John Pledger of Kibler, Hughie Ray Pledger of Lavaca, George Pledger of Fort Smith, Rev. Kenneth Pledger of Middlesburg, Fla., Rev. Arthur Pledger of Homestead, Fla., and Joe Pledger of Jamestown, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Coal Hill First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Sheraves, Rev. Arthur Pledger and Joe Pledger officiating.
Burial was in Blanscet cemetery at Altus under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Tom Pledger, Carl Hanson, Walter Rinke, Bentley Yates, Wayne Pledger, Nathan Pledger, and David Pledger.

Mrs. Hallie Blackard

Mrs. Hallie Hardgrave Blackard, 94, of Clarksville died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Arkadelphia.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Albert and Jennie Hardin Hardgrave, and widow of John E. Blackard.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Betty Blackard Higgs; one grandson and spouse, John Michael and Beverly Higgs of Arkadelphia; one granddaughter, Diane Higgs of Long Beach, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, John Michael Higgs Jr. and Cena Clark, both of Gurdon; two great-great-grandchildren, Hallie Clark and Kaitlyn Higgs, both of Gurdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Union Grove cemetery with Rev. Mark Green officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 322 North Greenwood Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Jerry Dale Clayborn Sr.

Jerry Dale Clayborn Sr., 51, of Clarksville died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Stillwell Bible Baptist Church, employee of Greenville Tube, and son of the late Dick Clayborn and Anna Mae Bly of Altus.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Donna Faye Scott Clayborn; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dale (Jeanne) Clayborn Jr. of Lamar and Richard Eugene Clayborn of Clarksville; eight sisters, Sue Marvel of Clarksville, Nina Patrick, Judy Ingram and Tammy Mason, all of Ozark, Joyce Harris of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jeanie Clayborn of New Boston, Texas, Vickie McKinney of Van Buren, and Shirley Bly of Mulberry; two brothers, Richard Clayborn of Altus and Jimmy Clayborn of Alma; one granddaughter, Kendalle Rayne Clayborn of Lamar; and one grandson, Collin Andrew Birkhahn of Lamar.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, at Stillwell Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Goodman officiating.
Burial was in Stillwell cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Barry Park, Sid Kern, Leon Kern, Jeff Clayborn, Dee Patton, and Jerry Dean.
Honorary pallbearers were Tony Marvel, Josh Dean, and Ricky Inklebarger.

Mrs. Jessie Lee Foster

Mrs. Jessie Lee Foster, 91, of Clarksville died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was the daughter of the late John and Janie Taylor Davis, widow of Clyde Foster, and a Methodist.
She is survived by one daughter, Pearlene Odom of Hawthorne, Nev.; five granddaughters, Cecilia James of Russellville, Marilyn Austin and Faye Holmes of Fort Smith, and Shirley Trowell and Toni McNell of Sparks, Nev.; three grandsons, Cecil Foster Jr. of Russellville, and James Ruel Odom and Darrell Odom, both of Hawthorne, Nev.; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Exxium Tabernacle OME Church in Russellville with Rev. Steve Lake officiating.
Burial will be in Reed cemetery at Russellville under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The body may be viewed from 11 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Julia F. Powell

Mrs. Julia F. Powell, 80, of Lamar died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Siloam Springs, daughter of the late Ross M. and Zona Lively Cundiff, member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, former resident of Russellville, and was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Clayton Powell, and one granddaughter, Amy Knoernschild.
Survivors include her husband, Clayton C. Powell; three daughters, Shirley Choate and Linda Fuentes of Granada Hills, Calif., and Sharon Knoernschild of Lamar; one half-sister, Ruth Ramsey of Russellville; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allen Grant officiating.
Burial was in Shiloh-Williamson cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville..
Active pallbearers were grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Rollow and Jerri Rollow.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
