James Alvin Thomas

James Alvin Thomas, 75, of Wichita, Kan., died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, in Wichita, Kan.
He was a son of the late James Luther Thomas and Wilma Ellis Barnes, retired employee of the Wichita (Kansas) City Department, Pentecostal, Navy veteran, and was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Cowan Yarbrough Thomas; and two brothers, Alton Munroe Thomas and Wilson Wayne Thomas.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Catherine Yarbrough Comstock of Wichita, Kan.; four sons, Ancil Lee Yarbrough and Gary Nolan Yarbrough, both of Clarksville, Billie Ray Yarbrough of Rogers, and Leroy Yarbrough of Oark; one brother, Jack Lester Thomas of Tecumseh, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. D. G. Daniels officiating. Burial was in Sherman cemetery at Oark.
Active pallbearers were Tracy Yarbrough, Roy Eugene Yarbrough, Rocky Yarbrough, Gary Yarbrough Jr., Robert Yarbrough, and Michael Comstock.
Honorary pallbearers were Marty Yarbrough, Roy Lee Yarbrough, Shay Yarbrough, Billy Dwayne Yarbrough, Christopher Yarbrough, Matthew Yarbrough, and Monty Yarbrough.

Norma J. Thomas

Norma J. Thomas, 72, of Ozark, grandmother of Tracie Nichols of Knoxville, died Friday, April 27, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau, Okla., and the Altus Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 3455, a native of Talihina, Okla., and daughter of the late John and Bertha Boren Holt.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Thomas; one daughter, Brenda Brown of Keota, Okla.; one son, John Thomas of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Jack Park of Albuquerque, N. M., and Mick Holt of McAllen, Texas; three other grandchildren, Jay Samples of Ada, Okla., Joni Shaw of Keota, Okla., and Gabe Thomas of Tulsa, Okla.; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Morris Boseman officiating. Burial was at the Fort Smith National cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ben Yates, Jim Herb Jackson, Eugene Post, David Chronister, Bill Walden, and Dwight Reagan.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Altus FOE Ladies Auxiliary.

Steven M. Eldredge

Steven Marshall Eldredge, 54, of Clarksville died Friday, May 4, 2001, at his home.
He was a son of the late Victor and Helen Cawood Eldredge, Vietnam veteran, retired from the United States Marine Corps, and was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation awarded First Marine Division for serving Vietnam in 1966-67, and Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation of the Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Survivors include his widow, Barbara Lax Eldredge; three daughters, Katie Eldredge of Clarksville, Kimberley Shoeffler of Alix, and Felicity Shoeffler of Hartman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Michael Darsey of La Selva, Calif., and Pat and Tom Clum of Renton, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Andrew Rice, Samantha Childers, and Madison Marshall Stutzman.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Carter cemetery with Dennis Daniel officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Scottie Lee Hicks

Scottie Lee Hicks, 66, of the Mt. Levi Community died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Clarksville.
He was a son of the late William Coy and Irma Ewell McMinn Hicks, graduate of Lamar High School, retired employee of Central Foundry, Army veteran, Methodist, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Porter and Joe Hicks.
Survivors include his widow, Hazel Louise Morland Hicks; four daughters, Anna Robbins, Scottia Hicks, Rebecca Hicks, and Irma Leah Hicks, all of Hagarville; one sister, Mary Jo Frye of North Little Rock; one brother, Loren White of Hagarville; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the Annie's Chapel cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.
Pallbearers were Burley Shook, Dean Dlugosh, Dub Felkins, Tom Fowler, Larry Shook, Dewayne Dlugosh, and Vaughnon Freeman.

Thelma B. Hanscom

Thelma Brehmer Hanscom, 89, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Burlington, Vt.
She was a former resident of Clarksville and a Methodist having attended Hays Chapel Methodist Church for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Wesley Hanscom; one daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Ben Russo of Clarksville; one grandson, James Whitaker of Homosassa, Fla.; one granddaughter, Tracy Whitaker of St. Joe; three great-grandsons; and one brother, William Whittaker of Tampa, Fla.
The body was cremated.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Hays Chapel Methodist Church.

Zachary David Garner

Zachary David Garner, 13, of Clarksville died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a student at Clarksville Junior High School, attended Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church of God in Clarksvillw where he was a member of the One Way Youth Group, active with the Clarksville Little League Baseball, and a former student at Dover Public Schools.
Survivors include his parents, David and Joan Brown of Clarksville and Rex and Theresa Garner of Mabelvale; three brothers, Joshua and Matthew Brown, both of Clarksville, and Seth Garner of Mabelvale; and grandparents, Franklin and Virginia Robberson and Monroe and Betty Garner, all of Dardanelle.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Russellville First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Terry Schlinker and Rev. Eddie Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Pollard cemetery near Dover under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Shinn Funeral Service at 800 West Main Street in Russellville.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, P. O. Drawer 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203.

Alda Mullins

Alda Mullins, 97, of the Patterson Springs Community near Oark died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late James and Rebecca Mereall Stepp, a Baptist, and was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Clero Mullins; two daughters, Dew Yates of Oark and Wilma Tate of Wichita, Kan.; three sons, Herla Mullins of Ozone, Loren Mullins of Clarksville and Darious Mullins of Winslow; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Pine Grove cemetery near Pettigrew with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gary Yates, Herla Mullins Jr., Matt Yates, Mark Yates, Darrell Yates, and Gerald Sanders.

Brooke Nicole Key

Brooke Nicole Key, infant daughter of Joshua Aaron and Sheila Birkhahn Key of Lamar, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
Other survivors include her twin sister, Abbe Michelle Key of Lamar; grandparents, Robert and Denise Key and Jimmy and Sharon Birkhahn, all of Lamar; great-grandparents, Don and Joyce Sims of Lamar, Dorothy Birkhahn of London, the late Al Birkhahn, Rae Cook of Lamar, and the late Clyde Cook; and great-great-grandmother, Hazel White of Kansas.
Funeral was at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Lamar Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Brown officiating.
Burial was in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Rev. Francis Roy King

Rev. Francis Roy King, former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville and Harmony Presbyterian Church, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at his home in Dubuque, Iowa.
Survivors include his widow, Lucille Crosby King; and children and spouses, Dr. Christopher (Kim) King of Troy, Ill., Rev. Rebecca King (Nigel Harrison) of Lafayette, Calif., Martha (Rick) Stuter of Dubuque, Iowa, Judith (Victor) Pawlak of Houston, Texas, Debi (Duane) Modracek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Crosby King (fiancee Gayle Hafner) of Baltimore, Md., Susan (Mitch) Wilcox of Fairfield Bay, and Matthew (Natalie) King of Asheville, N. C.
Memorials may be made to the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary or to Hospice of Dubuque.
