Jewell C. Ross
Jewell Colburn Ross, 87, of Altus died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
She was a native of Hartman, daughter of the late Sam and Mary Dorney Colburn, widow of George Ross, former hotel and apartment manager, and a member of the Altus Baptist Church and Coal Hill VFW Post 8532 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include one sister, Christine Colburn Brown of Altus; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Houston cemetery at Alix with Bobby Jack Covert officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Coal Hill VFW Post 8532 Ladies Auxiliary.
J. Paul Shields
J. Paul Shields, 99, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Knoxville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Grace Presbyterian Retirement Center.
He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late William Patrick and Minnie Janette Smith Shields, retired farmer and Eureka Brick and Tile Company (now Acme Brick Company) employee, former member of the Lamar School District Board and member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, and was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Bessie Lamb Shields, and his second wife, May Nowotny Shields.
Survivors include two sons, J. Pat Shields of Irving, Texas, and J. Roger Shields of Euless, Texas; one daughter, Margie Brown of Knoxville; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at First Baptist Church in Knoxville with Rev. Richard Snyder officiating.
Burial will be in Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers will be Mike and Timothy Shields and Kerry, Stephen, David and Bryan Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Pitts, Brent Williams and Kevin Hetting.

Leon T. Gillian
Leon T. Gillian, 81, of Fort Smith, formerly of Johnson County, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.
He was a retired superintendent and coach for Omaha (Arkansas) Public School System and member of the Westark Church of Christ, Belle Grove Lodge No. 410 of Clarksville, Westark Consistory, Shriners of Fort Smith and the Sebastian Retired Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Gillian.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Phillip, Lee, Andy Shawn, and Jesse Lee Jackson, and Willie Powell.

Louise Rigsby
Louise Rigsby, 85, of Clarksville died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in Ozark Nursing Home.
She was a native of Alix, daughter of the late Carl and Sara McKinney Westover, and was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Rigsby; and two brothers, Bill and Albert Westover.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Ed Bridgewater of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Joann Rigsby of Clarksville; one brother, Tommy Westover of Hartman; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Mt. Vernon cemetery with Rev. Burnett King officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Linda Kay Smith
Linda Kay Smith, 59, of Greenwood, mother of Steven Wyatt of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at her home.
She was a member of Excelsior Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Smith; one daughter, Cenda Vendel of Charleston; two other sons, John Wyatt of Branch and Michael Wyatt of Little Rock; one stepdaughter, Paulena Schoentholer of Littleton, Colo.; one sister, Deanna Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; four brothers, Jerry Basinger of Rock Island, Paul Basinger of Hartford, and Larry and Lynn Basinger, both of Hackett; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Excelsior Baptist Church with burial in Liberty cemetery at Greenwood. Arrangements were under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Haskell and Ryan Casalman, John Plunkett, J. B. Turner, Melvin Cahoon, and Frank Shaurn.
Honorary pallbearers were Sunday school class members.
Lestel Andrew Yount
Lestel Andrew Yount, 91, of Little Rock, father of Aubrey Yount of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.
He was the founder and owner of Yount Truck Line having hauled for Eureka Brick and Tile Company from 1946-76, was a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club and traveled with the Arkansas Razorback Unit, was a member of the Rosedale Optimist Club for 36 years where he achieved lifetime membership, an avid sportsman, and was preceded in death by one brother, Narvel Yount.
Other survivors include his wife, Eva Anderson Yount; three daughters, June Troxell of Harrisburg, N. C., Marilyn Crenshaw of Little Rock and Mary Jo Bowen of Camden; three stepchildren, Eddie Anderson of Little Rock, Becky Nordman of Bauxite, and Jimmy Anderson of Benton; one sister, Fern Mayor; three brothers, Adron, O. C., and Daniel Yount; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Chapel at Alexander with Rev. Jimmy Baker and Rev. Lester Burton officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Mary Sue Sears
Mary Sue Hatchett Sears, 60, of Clarksville died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at her home.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Elijah Marion and Ruth May Odgen Hatchett, former employee of Clarksville Convalescent Home, and was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Arthur and Merle Hatchett; and two sisters, Bessie Hylton and Ruby Pitts.
Survivors include her husband, J. W. Sears; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Tammy and Larry Teague of Batesville, Regina and Tim Marrs of Lexington, N. C., and Sonya Yates of Clarksville; two sons, Doug Willis and Donnie Willis, both of Clarksville; three brothers, Jim Hatchett of Michigan and Burl Hatchett and Glen Hatchett, both of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Christopher Willis of Illinois, Derrick Marrs and Trey Mitchell, both of North Carolina, Lindsay Teague and Trey Teague, both of Batesville, and Brittany Willis and Davey Yates, both of Clarksville; 11 stepchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Mt. Vernon Assembly of God Church with Rev. Bill Holt officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Vernon cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Todd Joynor, Leonard Kimbriel, Carl Sears, Mike Parton, Robert Hatchett, and Jimmy Don English.
Roland C. Davis
Roland Chester Davis, 84, of Clarksville died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a son of the late Alnut Reed and Lula Wood Davis, member of Mt. Vernon Community Church, Army veteran, retired farmer and logger, and was preceded in death by his foster father, B. A. Smith; one sister, Maxine Porter; two half-sisters, Gladys Richardson and Mildred Morrison; one foster sister, Betty Bramel; two brothers, Noel Davis and Loyd Davis; and a son-in-law, W. H. Cossey.
Survivors include his widow, Edna Lee Gibson Davis; two daughters, Wanda Cossey of Johnson and Martha Reynolds of Plainview, Texas; three sons, Lawrence Davis of Lamar, Kenneth Davis of Rogers, and James Roland Davis of Hindsville; foster mother, Lillie Smith of Lamar; two half-sisters, Wilma Holt of Springdale and Lula Mae Pottinger of Ohio; three foster sisters, Anna Bean and Emma Freeman, both of Clarksville, and Peggy Carlew of Danville, Ala.; one brother, Boyd Davis of Little Rock; five foster brothers, Johnny Smith, Donald Smith and Gary Smith, all of Clarksville, Jackie Smith of Springdale and James B. Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Mt. Vernon Community Church with Rev. Bill Holt and Rev. Robert Boen officiating.
Burial was in the Hagarville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Ronald L. Price
Ronald L. (Ron) Price, 63, of Parsons, Kan., father of Sally Thronebury of Clarksville, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.
He was born in Parsons, Kan., to Wayne E. Overby and Bertha (Price) Overby and was raised in Parsons, Kan., by his grandmother, Lilly Price. In 1959, he graduated from the Labette County Community High School in Altamont after which he joined the United States Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, USS Kiersarge. Following his discharge in 1963, he moved to southern California where he worked for the highway department. In 1968, he returned to Parsons, Kan., and worked as a guard at the Kansas Army Ammunitions Plant until 1971, when he began working as a letter carrier with the U. S. Postal Service, first in Oswego, Kan., and later in Parsons, Kan., before retiring in 1988. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viva A. (Vi) Evans Kinsch Price.
He is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Adam and Peggy Kinsch, Ronald Price Jr., Jeff and Bridget Price and Tim and Mary Price, all of Parsons, Kan.; two other daughters, Laura Kinsch and Marcia Bartholomew, both of Parsons, Kan.; 16 grandchildren, Amanda and Tim Johnson and Amber and Jake Shull, all of Mound Valley, Kan., Chris Thronebury and Kymberly Thronebury of Clarksville; Tifanie Bartholomew of Springfield, Mo., Shane Madore, Jon Bartholomew, Jessica Bartholomew, Opal Briggs, Kaylee Kinsch, Steve Queen, Michael Price and Bailiey Price, all of Parsons, Kan., and Nick Briggs of Pittsburg, Kan.; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Dylan and Madison Thronebury of Clarksville, Kylie Johnson of Mound Valley, Kan., and Mary Mills of Parsons, Kan.; one brother, Laverne Price of Parsons, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Oakwood cemetery with Keith Stammer officiating. Military honors were by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons, Kan., and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Arrangements were under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
