Frank A. Taylor

Frank Arthur Taylor, 65, of Lamar died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at his home.
He was a native of Mosinee, Wis., son of the late Clifford Taylor, retired farmer, stone cutter, and mechanic, former resident of Elkader, Iowa, quilt and wood crafts maker, and was preceded in death by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman (Jul) Moe; two sisters, Jane and Jean; and two brothers, Bob and Fred.
Survivors include his widow, Marge Taylor; two daughters, Jul Stiebig and Lynn Delano, both of Mosinee, Wis.; three stepdaughters, Melane Clark of Mosinee, Wis., Laura White of Dubuque, Iowa, and Debbie McBurney of Lamar; one son, Dale Taylor of Mosinee, Wis.; five stepsons, Ronald Brosowsky of Schofield, Wis., Allan Brosowsky of England, Steve Lutz of Elkader, Iowa, Tom Shea of Winthrop, Iowa, and Mike Shea of Burlington, Iowa; mother, Eva Taylor Bossard of Bruce, Wis.; three sisters, Gladys Suckaw of North Saint Paul, Minn., Pat Lauritern of Prairie Farm, Wis., and Debra Simanowshi of Port Townsend, Wash.; one foster sister, Norma Plenty of Turtle Lake, Wis.; six brothers, Larry of Bruce, Wis., Roger of Exland, Wis., Richard of Bremerton, Wash., Bill of Olmeted Falls, Ohio, Terry of South Minneapolis, Minn., and Dave of Garber, Iowa; one foster brother, Richard Moe of Rice Lake, Wis.; six grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The body was cremated and the cremains will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 25, in Mosinee, Wis.

Jimmy Ray Smith

Jimmy Ray Smith, 74, brother of Roy Lee Smith and Jerry Elms, both of Hartman, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Tulsa, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Smith; mother and stepfather, Bertha Warren Smith Elms and Bill Elms; one sister, Goldie Brown; and one brother, Billy Smith.
He was a native of Allen, Okla., former resident of Bakersfield, Calif., Dos Palos, Calif., and Kerman, Calif. While in Dos Palos and Kerman, Calif., he attended school and played football before graduating in 1948. He attended Fresno State College, served in the U. S. Army as a sergeant in the medics in the Korean War, and was an employee for the State of California Department of Transportation for 24 years prior to retiring in 1990.
Other survivors include his widow, Wanda Alene Sangster Smith; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Smith of Merced, Calif., and Vohn Smith of McKinney, Texas; three grandchildren, Chris George, Nicholas and Stephen Sora, all of Merced, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews including Floyd Sangster of Porum, Okla.
Funeral was at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in McKinney, Texas, with burial at Pecan Grove cemetery in McKinney, Texas.

John W. Workman

John Walter Workman, 81, of Alix, father of Betty Self of Clarksville, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at his home.
He was a retired truck driver for Cargill, Army veteran of World War II, native of Alix, and son of the late George and GeorgeAnn Holt Workman.
Survivors include his widow, Goldie Hallum Workman; one other daughter, Judy Permann of Altus; one son, Billy Hefley of Van Buren; one sister, Audie Scott of Alix; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Lerene Tillman

Lerene Tillman, 57, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at her home.
She was a homemaker and Baptist. She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Everingham and a grandchild, Derek Lee Freeman.
Survivors include her husband, Allen Lee Tillman; one daughter and son-in-law, Stacy Le Ellen and Paul Goodin of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd Allen and Jennifer Tillman of Clarksville; her mother, Christine Everingham of Clarksville; one grandchild, Sarah Freeman of Clarksville; two step-grandchildren, Grant Goodin and John Goodin, both of Clarksville; and two brothers, Leroy Everingham of Georgia and David Everingham of California.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating. Private burial will be at Mt. Zion cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Opal M. Scherff

Opal Maxine Scherff, 77, of Russellville died Monday, March 17, 2003, at her home.
She was a former resident of Johnson County, native of Luna, Mo., daughter of the late John and Tennessee Burnetta Lewis Smith, Catholic, graduate of Imperial (Nebraska) High School, and attended the University of Nebraska.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert Calvin Scherff; two daughters, Marsha Winters of The Colony, Texas, and Jill Keller of Russellville; six sons, Randy Scherff of Fayetteville, Robert Scherff of Russellville, Chris Scherff, Michael Scherff and Jeffrey Scherff, all of Fort Smith, and Greg Scherff of Pine Bluff; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Patricia A. Brents

Patricia Ann Brents, 42, of Hector died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was a native of Shreveport, La., daughter of the late James Arnold Brents, and a member of Cabin Creek Baptist Church at Lamar.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Savell; one son, Mathew William Stamper of Hector; one stepson, Micheal Thomas Savell of Lamar; three daughters, Stephanine Dee Thomas and Wendy Michelle Tanton, both of Quinland, Texas, and Christina Stamper of Hector; one stepdaughter, Tierra Rene Savell of Lamar; mother, Patsy Dee Brents of Atkins; three brothers, Barry J. Brents of Phoenix, Ariz., Bobby J. Brents of Georgia, and Johnny D. Brents of Mississippi; one sister, Brenda Jean Largent of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Grant Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Ashton Tanton, and Madison Tanton.
The family will conduct a memorial service at a later date.
The body was cremated under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Robert E. Sharum

Graveside services and burial for Rogert Eugene Sharum, 70, of Cartersville, Ga., who died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Cartersville, Ga., were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Annie's Chapel cemetery with Rev. James Shinn officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
He was a retired supervisor for Lockheed Martin Corporation, Baptist, and was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers.
Survivors include his widow, Peggy June Sabine Sharum; two daughters, Sherry Estes of Adairsville, Ga., and Donna Gillion of Texarkana, Texas; one son, Roy Sharum of Cartersville, Ga.; one step-son, Coleman Wigger of Adairsville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Ian Sharum of Cartersville, Ga., Gary Mitchell Jr., Michael Mitchell, Travis Estes, and Loretta Estes, all of Adairsville, Ga., and Brandy Gillion of Texarkana, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Gage Estes, Aiden Estes, and Matthew Mitchell, all of Adairsville, Ga.

Shirley E. Platt

Shirley Ellen Platt, 66, of Clarksville died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Little Mulberry Creek at the Old Rufe Reed Place in Johnson County, AR in 1937. She moved to Washington State where she raised her children and retired back in this area in 1992.
She was a daughter of the late Virgil and Lois Davis Karr and was preceded in death by one brother, Joel D. Karr; and one sister, Jo Ann Karr.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn Lehman of Clarksville; three sons, Bill Platt of Auburn, Wash., Chuck Platt of Forest Grove, Ore., and Donald Platt of Pacific, Wash.; two sisters, Faye Young of Clarksville and Kathleen Johnson of Pettigrew; and one grandchild, Melinda Sue Platt of Auburn, Wash.
Funeral was at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Paul Bates and Keith Avaritt officiating. Private burial was at Oark cemetery.

Zepherine Zumwalt

Zepherine Zumwalt, 89, of Indianola, Iowa, formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was a native of Bartlesville, Okla., graduate of Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Okla., former teacher in the public school system and also at the collegiate level having retired in 1974 while living in Fayette, Iowa. She was the widow of Neil Zumwalt and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Zumwalt of Blue Springs, Mo., and Ron Zumwalt of Indianola, Iowa; one brother, Dr. Ivan Hull of Borger, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, Iowa, under the direction of Overton Funeral Home. Graveside services and burial were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Fairlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Cushing, Okla.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, Iowa, or the Heifer Project.

Albert L. Leeds

Albert Lawrence Leeds, 82, died Feb. 7, 2003, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late John and Bell Leeds, 1939 graduate of Clarksville High School, attended business school in Dallas, Texas, served as page in the Arkansas legislature in Little Rock, member of St. Paul's Methodist Church for 50 years where he was recording secretary for several years and Sunday school class pianist, 50-year member of Franklin Lodge No. 9 in Clarksville, and retired in 1991 from Eve, Inc., as office manager. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Tony, Ira and George; and two sisters, Iva Bounds and Margie Crowley.
Survivors include his widow, Enid Leeds; one great-nephew, Stephen Bounds of St. Louis, Mo.; one great-great-niece, Tara Walker of Antlers, Okla.; one great-great-nephew, Todd Bounds of Sherman, Texas; two great-great-great-nieces, Kayla Walker and Adrianna Bounds; one great-great-great-nephew, Hunter Lawrence Bounds; and several cousins.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at St. Paul's Methodist Church.
