Elgie May Watson

Elgie May Watson, 77, of Oark died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late George Tommy and Ethel Simmons Young, widow of Clay Watson, Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son, Hartsel Watson.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Joe Wood of Oark and Lorene and Joe Clark of Winslow; one brother and sister-in-law, Olen and Grace Young of Deer; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Mossville Church with Rev. George Farquhar officiating.
Burial will be in Mossville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Clark, Kelly Tenison, Gary Young, Travis Wood, Eddie Skaggs, and Joe Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Wood, Doug Pelfrey, Tracy Jones, Joe Clark, Bart Ledgerwood, Don Smith, and Tommy Young.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Larry James Smith

Larry James Smith, 28, of Lamar died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, from injuries sustained in a shooting incident near Knoxville.
He was an iron worker and was preceded in death by one sister, Lisa Shepherd.
Survivors include his widow, Angel Smith; two sons, Jamie Smith and Jaxon Smith, both of the home; mother and stepfather, Linda and Mike Shepherd of the Flat Rock Community; father, A. V. Smith of Lutherville; one sister, Tammy Shepherd of the Flat Rock Community; two brothers, Jody Smith of the Flat Rock Community and Michael Shepherd of Crested Butte, Colo.; and grandparents, Harvey and Faye Severn of London.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Payne officiating. Burial was in Hess cemetery near Coal Hill.
Active pallbearers were Jody Smith, Michael Shepherd, Tammy Shepherd, Jimmy Butler, Andy Butler, Daniel Dunlap, James Callahan, and Rowdy Hodges.
Honorary pallbearers were David Lee Dunlap, Ronald Dee Dunlap, Bruce Dunlap, Wade Dunlap, Charles Dunlap, Leslie Dunlap, Michael Leeds, and Robert Morales.

Lois Gross

Lois Gross, 80, of Conway, grandmother of Rhonda Hampton of London, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Heritage Living Center.
She was a native of Hector, former resident of Russellville, daughter of the late William Cody and Maudie Loutilda Shuffield Heathcock, widow of Boyce E. Gross, a Free Will Baptist, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Duvall; and two brothers, Glen and James Heathcock.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Esther Gross of Conway; two other grandchildren, Ronnie Duvall of Dardanelle and Jason Gross of Conway; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Rev. Freddie Goates officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Memorials may be made to Faulkner County Senior Citizens, 1620 N. Donaghey, Conway, AR 72034 or Southern Christian Home, 100 West Harding, Morrilton, AR 72110.

Thelma J. Jenkins

Thelma Jones Jenkins, 93, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Plainview, daughter of the late William Marion and Sarah Myrtle Darter Jones, widow of I. W. Jenkins, graduate of Ola High School, retired co-owner of Nu Frocke Shoppe, member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Mable Randall and Ruby Nell Dennis; and one niece, Susan Randall.
She is survived by one niece, Patti Davis of Clarksville; one great-niece, Amber Davis of North Little Rock; one great-nephew, Ashley Davis of Clarksville; and one great-great-nephew, Ashton Davis of Clarksville.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Oakland cemetery with Rev. Billy Usery officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Varnelle C. Smedley

Varnelle Carter Smedley, 98, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clarksville, daughter of the late Frank C. and Etta Ray Carter, widow of Leo Smedley Sr., and was preceded in death by one son, Leo Smedley Jr.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Anna Smedley of Clarksville; two brothers, Joe Carter of Clarksville and Roy Carter of Ridgecrest, Calif.; two grandchildren and spouses, Beverly and Clyde Eubanks of Fayetteville and Gary and Linda Smedley of Rogers; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Coats, Jim Rogers, Glen Hickey, Carl Williams, Edd Young, and Calvin Warren.

Herschel Hill

Herschel Hill, 85, of Coal Hill died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired coal miner, member of the Church of Christ, and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herschel (Elizabeth Quaile) Hill Sr.
Survivors include his widow, Lucille Hackney Hill; three daughters, Sue Horton of Maumelle, Rebecca Locklear of Houston, Texas, and Annette Grisham of Cabot; two sisters, Cohene Hill of Portland, Ore., and Gretchen Hill of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Roller-Cox Chapel with John Ballard officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alistair Beaman, David Horton, Hal Farnsworth, Derek Horton, Jimmy Hill, and Leroy Douglas.

Kirk Clingenpeel

Kirk Clingenpeel, 23, of Altus died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 352 approximately one mile west of Clarksville.
He was a native of Fort Smith, employed as a carpenter's assistant for Home Construction Company, and was preceded in death by one brother, John Russell Clingenpeel; and grandfather, John Workman.
Survivors include one daughter, Toni Alisha Ann of Clarksville; father and stepmother, Douglas and Florence Clingenpeel of Newport, Tenn.; mother and stepfather, Judy and Dennis Permann of Altus; maternal grandmother, Goldie Workman of Clarksville; paternal grandparents, Russell and Phyllis Clingenpeel of South Sioux, Neb., and Vernita Permann of Parkston, S. D.; and one sister, Selena Clingenpeel of Altus.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with John Ballard officiating.

Kenneth W. Huff

Kenneth W. Huff, 60, of Locust Grove, Okla., brother of Pat Edwards of Coal Hill, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, in Locust Grove, Okla.
He was a native of Alma, served in the Army and National Guard and employed as a long-haul truck driver for Transwood Trucking of Pryor, Okla. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Huff; three brothers, John Paul, Reseal and Glenn David Huff; and one sister, Evelyn Marie.
Survivors include his widow, Joyce Huff; one son, Shannon Huff of Van Buren; one stepdaughter, Quanna Rena Scrapper of Pryor, Okla.; one stepson, Tommy Cruise of Pryor, Okla.; two other sisters, Sharon Schaarbo of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Tammy Moon of Fort Smith; eight brothers, Ronnie Huff of Bismarck, N. D., Virgil Huff of Mulberry, Billy Huff of Natural Dam, Gary Adams and Tim Adams, both of Alma, Larry Adams of Ozark, Steve Adams of Gillette, Wyo., and Harold Adams of Dallas; and nine grandchildren, Timothy, Amber, Michael, Shelby Lynn, Makayla, Makenzie, Kenneth Cody, Jason Blaine and Kendra Nicole.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Stephens Memorial Chapel in Pryor, Okla., with Rev. Ken Gerhart officiating. Burial was at Fort Gibson National cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla.

Nora T. Tharp

Nora Terrill Tharp, 89, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Frank Leslie and Lula Jane Alkire Terrill, 1934 graduate of Hartman High School, member of the Church of Christ and the Mayflower Society, resident of California for several years prior to returning to Clarksville in 1971, and a retired employee of the Sears Roebuck Company in Glendale, Calif. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Nate, Alfred, Elga and Wallace Terrill; and one sister, Cora Terrill.
Survivors include seven nieces, June Farmer, Peggy Carta, Ruth Ann Duran, and Nora Muriel Terrill, all of Clarksville, Bertha Skidgel of Coal Hill, Jeanette Murray of Nebraska, and Eva Jean Cravens of Missouri; seven nephews, Jim Terrill of Lamar, Darrell Terrill and Ray Terrill, both of Hartman, Bob Terrill of California, and Max Terrill, David Terrill, and Tommy Terrill, all of Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Terrill of Hartman.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with John Ballard officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Terrill, Darrell Terrill, Ray Terrill, Roy Goodin, Mike Walker, and Greg Rainey.

Pearl D. Whitson

Pearl Dickerson Whitson, 90, of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at her home.
She was a native of Coal Hill, daughter of the late J. W. and Lilly Mae Boen Dickerson, widow of Harold Whitson, co-owner of Whitson-Morgan Motor Company, an alumna of the University of the Ozarks, member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville, the Presbyterian Women's Association, PEO, Beta Sigma Phi, and University of the Ozarks Alumni Association, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Sue Hardin.
She is survived by one son, Turner Whitson of Clarksville; one grandson, Steve Edmisten of Clarksville; two granddaughters, Julie Turner of Plano, Texas, and Heather Whitson of Raleigh-Durham, N. C.; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Wilson of Clarksville; stepmother, Ila Dickerson of Clarksville; one sister, Bonnie Dickerson of Fort Smith; one brother, Jim Dickerson of Clarksville; and one half-sister, Monetta Hadley of Ponca City, Okla.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Michael Dickerson, Chris Dickerson, Greg Dickerson, Jimmy Dickerson, Larry Plugge, Charlie Plugge, Billy Dickerson, and Jeff Blackard.
