William Shirley Kirk
Mr. William Shirley Kirk, age 81, of Cale, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mr. Kirk was born April 23, 1920, in Nevada County, and was the son of Henry Jeff and Beulah Buchanan Kirk. He was a retired farmer and construction worker, a former owner operator of Kirk's Grocery in Cale and an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Kirk was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie Kirk in March 2000 and one sister, Brodie Knight.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Nelson Kirk of Lewisville and Kenneth Michael Kirk of Forrest City; two daughters, Patsy Marie Littrell and Sandra Kaye Melton, both of Cale; two brothers, Duncan Kirk of Commanche, Texas and Dennis Kirk of Camden; two sisters, Katherine Porterfield of Chidester and Evelyn Martindale of Prescott; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Kirk were held today, Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Fincher Knight officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Bluff City under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

A.A. "Shug" Banks
Mr. A.A. "Shug" Banks, age 78, of Blytheville, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville.
Mr. Banks was born March 7, 1923, in Memphis and was the son of Charles R. and Mayme Johnson Banks. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a lifelong Mississippi County resident. Mr. Banks was a farmer, ginner and banker, a lifetime member of Mississippi County Farm Bureau and a former partner of the Independent Gin Co. He was also a member of the board of directors of the First Delta Bank. He served has county judge for 10 terms, was past president of the Arkansas County Judge's Association and founder, served first president of the Arkansas Association of Counties, was a director of National Association of County Officials and participated in many other associations.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lucille Pittman Banks of the home; two sons, Charles A. "Chuck" Banks of Little Rock and William B. "Brett" Banks of Tyronza and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Banks will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Blytheville, with Rev. Pam Estes officiating the service. Burial will follow in Bassett Cemetery under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.
The family request memorials be sent in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church in Blytheville or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Patricia Ann Moore Berlin
Mrs. Patricia Ann Moore Berlin, formerly of Forrest City, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Mrs. Berlin was a 1957 graduate of Forrest City High School and was the daughter of Adine J. Moore.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John I. Moore of Baton Rouge, La.
Mrs. Berlin is survived by her husband, Dr. Joel Berlin of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons, Jimmy Taylor of Alpharetta, Ga. and Maynard Holt, III, of Brooklyn, N.Y. and one brother, Dr. Charles Moore of Metarie, La.., four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joe L. Brown
Mr. Joe L. Brown, age 88, of Forrest City, formerly of Marianna, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Brown, a former Lee County School District employee of 38 years, is survived by his wife, Alberta Brown of Forrest City; two daughters, Earnestine Conyers of East St. Louis, Ill. and Era Jean Miller of Marianna and a son, John Brown of Chicago, Ill.
Visitation services for Mr. Brown will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Kennedy Chapel in Marianna. A separate visitation service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Spring Grove M. B. Church in Haynes. Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Spring Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Cedric Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens Cemetery in Edmondson, under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

A.M. Farley
Mr. A.M. Farley, age 95, of Forrest City, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Mr. Farley was born Nov. 4, 1905, in Nashville, Ark., and was the son of William Farley and Josephine Austin Farley. He was a graduate of Tulsa Business College in Tulsa, Okla. and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in during World War II. He was Gulf Oil Company's regional corporate distributor in 1970, before retiring to Heber Springs. Mr. Farley was a member of First Baptist Church in Forrest City and a resident of Crestpark Retirement Inn since 2000.
He married Lucy Dolley Farley in 1937 and she survives him along with two sisters, Ramadell Byrum and Leeta Lemley, both of Texarkana.
Services for Mr. Farley will be held graveside on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction Stevens Funeral Home.

Katherine Eaton Culver
Mrs. Katherine Eaton Culver, age 92, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Culver, born Jan. 14, 1909, in Forrest City, was the daughter of Jefferson Hayes Eaton and Tina Daniel Eaton. She lived in St. Francis County all of her life and was a housewife and a member of the Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church.
In 1929 Mrs. Culver married Jesse Lee Culver Sr., and he preceded her in death in 1989. Mrs. Culver was also preceded in death by three daughters, Ernestine Culver, Mary Sue Culver and Billie Jean Webb. She is survived by four sons, Jesse Culver Jr., of California, Bruce Culver of Green Forest and Charles Culver and Jerry Culver, both of Forrest City; a daughter, Mack 'Amy' Standridge of Forrest City; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Culver were held Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Orbin Howard Herron
Mr. Orbin Howard Herron, age 52, of Marianna, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Herron, born Feb. 20, 1949, was the son of Jesse Herron and Irene Rutledge Herron. He was a farmer, a veteran and a member of Walls Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Herron, is survived by his mother; two sons, Jason Herron and Jared Herron, both of Moro; a daughter, Amanda Johnson of Jonesboro; two sisters, Wanda Burton of Clarksville, Tenn. and Pansy Burns of Moro; two brothers, Jerry Herron and David Herron, both of Marianna and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation services for Mr. Herron will be held Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Chapel in Marianna. Funeral services for Mr. Herron will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Chapel with Rev. Benny Hall officiating. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorials be sent to the Children's Education Trust Fund.

Juanita Sampley
Mrs. Juanita Sampley, age 79, of Forrest City, died on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Sampley was born on July 30, 1922, in Memphis, and was the daughter of Walker Cox and Mamie Dunning Cox. Mrs. Sampley made her home in the Forrest City area most of her life, where she was a bookkeeper and an active member of First Baptist Church. She was also active in the Cosmos Club, Hospital Auxiliary, Musical Coterie, Wayside Garden Club and the Happy Dayers Club.
Mrs. Sampley was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Sampley in July of this year.
She is survived by three daughters, Kaye Murry and Debbie Montgomery, both of Forrest City and Anita Fletcher of Fayetteville and five grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Sampley will be held Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Sampley will be held graveside on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. Danny Haflich officiating under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, Forrest City Public Library or to the Arkansas Department of Health Hospice.

Ineda W. Midgett Cox
Mrs. Ineda W. Midgett Cox, age 73, of Dardanelle, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Cox was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Vanndale and was the daughter of the late Willie Levi and Effie Edna Meredith Midgett. She worked as a switchboard operator at St. Mary's Hospital and was a life time of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #3141.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by two brothers Darrell Midgett and Harold Midgett and a son-in-law, Timmy Trehern.
She is survived by her husband, G.W. Cox Jr. of Dardanelle; a son, John Martin Jr. of West Memphis; two daughters, Rachel M. Cox and Nita Cox Trehern, both of Dardanelle; two sisters, Vernease Shahan of Wynne and Peggy Currington of Argyle, Fla.; two brothers, Billy Midgett of Caldwell and George Midgett of Coldwater, Miss.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cox were held today, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at 10 a.m., at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with Rev. Howard Cox officiating the service. Burial followed in Graves Cemetery in Delaware under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Service of Dardanelle.

Kenneth Noel Tatum
Mr. Kenneth Noel Tatum, age 63, of Forrest City, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Tatum was born Dec. 11, 1937 in Memphis and was the son of Noel Tatum and Almeria Kennedy Tatum. He lived in Forrest City all of his life and was a retired superintendent of the Forrest City Water Treatment Plant and attended the Fellowship Bible Church.
Mr. Tatum married Becky Cox in 1958 and she survives him along with two sons, Rusty Tatum of Batesville and Bruce Tatum of Potts Camp, Miss; one daughter, Connie Clarkson of Holly Springs, Miss.; two sisters, Joyce Hollis of Forrest City and Beverly Love of West Memphis and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Tatum will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Tatum will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
The family request memorials be made to the Fellowship Bible Church.
