Wallace Winfred Hornbeak
Mr. Wallace Winfred Hornbeak, age 75, of Hughes, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mr. Hornbeak was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Ridgely, Tenn., and was the son of J.G. Hornbeak and Hattie Parson. He was a retired printer for the Commercial Appeal in Memphis and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hughes and an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hornbeak is survived by his wife, Nora Hornbeak of Hughes; three sons, Larry W. Hornbeak of Forrest City, Terry B. Hornbeak of Little Rock and Lorin K. Hornbeak of Hughes; a daughter, Sandra Dilks of Marianna; a sister, Vivian Hancock of West Helena; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Hornbeak will be held Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Roller-Citizens Chapel in Marianna with Rev. Rodney Skipworth officiating the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.
The family requests memorials to be made to the First Baptist Church of Hughes or the Hughes Fire Department.

Evelyn Jones Trail
Mrs. Evelyn Jones Trail, age 84, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
Mrs. Trail was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Haynes and was the daughter of John Martin Jones and Vesta Danehower Jones. She lived in St. Francis County most of her life and was a housewife and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Trail married W.J. "Bill" Trail Sr., in 1938 and he preceded her in death in 2001 along with one son, Richard F. Trail in 1984; three brothers, Martin Jones, Cecil Jones and Frank Jones and a sister, Irene Jones Parkman.
She is survived by two sons, W.J. Trail Jr., of Widener and Ray M. Trail of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, John Allen Jones of Fouke; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Trail will be Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Trail on Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Memorials are to be made to the First United Methodist Church or the First Baptist Church.

Fred Allen Jr.
Mr. Fred Allen Jr., age 46, of Widener, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Allen, a maintenance employee at Baptist Memorial Hospital, was the son of Fred Allen Sr., who preceded him in death in 2000, and Trudie Allen.
He is survived by his mother; three daughters, Beverly King of Wisconsin, Sherry Jones of Parkin, and LeKetha Brown of Toledo, Ohio; four sons, Fred Allen III and Kevin Allen, both of Widener, DeMarcus Holmes of Memphis and Preston Allen of Blytheville; 10 sisters, Della Allen, Annie Allen and Helen Allen, all of Forrest City, Sharon Allen, Martha Allen, Olivia Rucker, Sandra Allen and Patricia Velma, all of Widener; Freddie Bibbs of Batesville, Miss. and Tyronda Washington of Madison; four brothers, Billy Allen of Batesville, Miss., Ardell Allen of Kingsport, Tenn., James Smith of Heth and Curtis Allen of Forrest City and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mr. Allen will be held Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Kennedy Chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be held, Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Church of God with Rev. Floyd Billups and Rev. James Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Edward McGruder
Mr. Edward McGruder, age 82, of Heth, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. McGruder was a retired farm manager.
He is survived by five daughters, Edna Cordell of Heth, Nellie Beloate of Nashville, Tenn., Gale Childeress of Coldwater, Miss., Maxine Kitchens of Widener and Nina Luedke of Marion; six sons, Murice McGruder, Luther McGruder and Roland McGruder, all of Heth, Arnold McGruder of Germantown, Tenn., Merle McGruder of Collierville, Tenn. and Donald McGruder of Hughes; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. McGruder were held Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Burial followed at Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis.
The family requests memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

Lauren Elizabeth Neeley
Katherine Hope Neeley
Lauren Elizabeth Neeley and Katherine Hope Neeley, twin daughters of Jeffery John Neeley and Tommie Carol Poindexter Neeley of Forrest City, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in Memphis.
The children were born Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in Memphis.
They are survived by their parents; maternal grandparents, Tommy J. Poindexter and Linda Poindexter of Forrest City; a maternal great-grandmother, Pat Poindexter of Forrest City; paternal grandparents, Darrel Neeley and Judy Neeley of Forrest City and paternal great-grandparents, Earl Neeley and Virginia Neeley of McDougal.
Visitation for the Neeley children will be held Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held graveside on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery with Bro. Eddie Addison officiating the service under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be made to New Prospect Baptist Church.

Rickey Dewayne Young
Mr. Rickey Dewayne Young, age 39, of Forrest City, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Young was born Dec. 22, 1961, in Marianna and was the son of Wayne Young and Carolyn McPherson Young. He was employed at True Value in Forrest City and was a member of Widener Baptist Church.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Young in 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Young of the home; his mother, Carolyn Young of Forrest City; two sons, Jonathan Young and Lance Young, both of Forrest City; three sisters, Cathy White and Anna Allen, both of Forrest City and Judy Dickerson of Sherwood.
Funeral services for Mr. Young were held Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Morgan Chapel with Bro. Johnny Brewster officiating the service. Burial followed at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.

Alice Farrar Whitehorn
Ms. Alice Farrar Whitehorn, age 69, of Palestine, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001.
Ms. Whitehorn was born Feb. 28, 1932 and was a long time employee of General Industries in Forrest City, before retiring in 1983. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Palestine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Whitehorn in 1990. Ms. Whitehorn is survived by one son, Bobby Whitehorn of Forrest City; two daughters, Frankye Davis of Fort Worth, Texas and Valerie Giles of Indianola, Iowa and seven grandchildren.
Visitation for Ms. Whitehorn will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Bell Cemetery in Palestine. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Azzie Lee Benard
Mrs. Azzie Lee Benard, age 74, of Hughes, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Benard is survived by nine daughters, Ozelia Wilson, Diane Hatton, Lorene Moore, all of Hughes, Joann Toney of Memphis, Ester Dawson and Bessie Lowe of Forrest City, Azzie Lee Benard II of Brownsville, Tenn., Lavern Mason of Tulsa, Okla. and Bernice Sanders of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sons, Tommy Benard and David Benard, both of Hughes and William Benard of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Alberta Long of Forrest City; two brothers, Robert Lee Randle of Rozell, N.J. and Phillip Randle of Forrest City; 43 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Benard will be held Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Anthony Funeral Home Chapel in Anthonyville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke M.B. Church in Hughes with burial following in Paradise Garden with Anthony Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Luvetia Dillard
Mrs. Luvetia Dillard, age 72, of Colt, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis.
Mrs. Dillard, born July 15, 1929, in Caldwell, was a retired custodian at Caldwell Elementary.
Mrs. Dillard is survived by four daughters, Corine Harmon, Christine Finch, Betty Hamilton and Mary Jones, all of Caldwell; four sons, John Dillard Jr., Louis Dillard and Earnest Dillard, all of Caldwell and Eugene Dillard of Forrest City; a foster son, Chester Thompson; two brothers, James Tabron and Ben Harris Tabron, both of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Dillard will be held Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ Disciples with Elder Joe King officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Dr. William E. Mills
Dr. William E. Mills, age 76, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at his home.
Dr. Mills was born in Helena and was the son of Thurl Bryan Mills and Edith Estelle Bone Mills. He made his home in Forrest City most of his life and was a retired optometrist. Dr. Mills graduated from the Southern School of Optometry in Memphis.
He married Barbara Vaccaro Mills in 1958 and she survives him along with a daughter, Elise Mills Basore of Bella Vista; a son, Jeb Mills of Fayetteville and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dr. Mills will be held graveside on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be sent to the Forrest City Public Library, 421 South Washington St., Forrest City.
