Beloved wife of Larry; beloved mother of Kelli Ruhl and Brian (Michelle) Ruhl; beloved grandmother of Ashton, Mitchell and Megan; beloved sister of Robert (Joyce) Glasser and Linda (Jim) Bearden; beloved daughter of Robert F. and Harriet Glasser; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was a graduate of Salpointe High School and worked for Excel Print Communications. The family suggests donations in Patricia's name be made to the American Cancer Society, 1636 N. SHEPARD, Alice J., age 68, of Tucson, AZ, died January 27, 2000. She is survived by son, Christopher Lee Shepard; sisters, Carolyn Foster; Norma (Walter) Howell. She was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Hartard; and her parents, Albert and Victoria Hartard. STORMS, John W. 'Jack', age 81, of Oro Valley, AZ, died January 28, 2000. Survived by wife, Maxine D. Storms, Oro Valley, AZ; daughters, Stephanie Storms, San Francisco, CA; Susan Kindred, Denver, CO; son, Steven Storms, Glendora, CA; granddaughter, Lee Matthews, Denver, CO; and brother, Robert S. Storms, Rochester, NY. Mr. Storms was a WWII Navy Veteran where he was a PT Boat Commander and received the Silver Star. He had an MBA from Harvard Business School and was a Corporate Executive for Times Mirror Company. Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N. 1st Ave., Oro Valley, AZ, with Pastor Sue Sauerberg officiating. ARMIJO, Ulysses, age 93, of Tucson, passed away January 28, 2000. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Beatrice; daughters, Rebecca (Paul) Hedstron and Anita (James) Lumpkin; grandchildren, Michael, Nadine, Eric, John and Laura; sister, Lucinda Sullivan; brother, Charles Armijo; and many nieces and nephews. Ulysses was a native Tucsonian born December 24, 1906, and he retired after 33 years with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Swan and Pima. Interment Holy Hope cemetery. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. FROEMEL, Jean Elizabeth, 58, of Oro Valley, AZ, died Saturday, January 29, 2000. She is survived by husband, Richard A. Froemel; children, Stephen W., Britt P. and Kristin E. Froemel; mother, Lucille W. Dalrymple; and sister, Marian Lien. Jean was a member of the Southern Arizona Arabian Horse Association. A memorial celebration will be held at Westward Look Resort, Canyon Room, 245 E. GANTZ, Harry S., 90, of Cincinnati, OH, died January 31, 2000, while visiting in Tucson. He is survived by his son, David A. Gantz of Tucson; two daughters, Katherine G. Morse of Arlington, WA and Emily G. McKay of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren, Stephen D. and Julie L. Gantz of Washington, D.C. and Jeremy Morse of Harpswell, Maine. His wife of fifty years, Edwina Bookwalter Gantz, died in 1988. Arrangements for a memorial service in Cincinnati are pending.

LILLIE 'FAYE' JOHNSON, 64, of Tucson, AZ, died January 28, 2000. Survived by husband of 20 years, Archie Johnson; one son, Seth Wayne Davis; two daughters, Doretta Elliott (William), Hattie Bryant (HB); three sisters, Dorothy M. Carr, Leatha M. Reed, and Lelia M. Scrutchins; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a beloved friend, Alma Munoz, and a host of relatives and friends. She was employed by Headstart for 25 years. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 210 E. Lester St., with Reverend Amos L. Lewis of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Interment Evergreen cemetery on Oracle Rd. Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to services. Remembrances may be made to Rising Star Baptist Church in memory of Faye Johnson Educational Fund.

MATHIESON, William 'Bill' of Mammoth, AZ, died January 30, 2000 in Tucson. Husband of Isabel; father of Debbie Moreno, Jeanette (Robert) Giblar and Russell Mathieson; brother of Bettie Mathieson; grandfather of Candace, William, Cristin and Kahla Moreno; great-grandfather of R.J. Castillo and Nathaniel Castillo. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Mathieson was employed by Magma Copper for over thirty years as a surface supervisor. He was elected Mayor of the town of Mammoth, served for eight years, and was instrumental in Mammoth becoming incorporated. Mr. Mathieson was a member of the Board of Supervisors in Pinal County for sixteen years. He was highly respected in his community as a leader and organizer and touched the lives of all he met and was known affectionately as 'Uncle Bill' to many.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, February 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at which time a service will take place at the Masonic Temple Lodge #51, corner of American Ave. and Oracle Rd., in Oracle. Interment will be in the family plot, Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the William 'Bill' Mathieson Scholarship Fund, c/o Pinal County, Administrative Services, P.O. Box 827, Florence, AZ 85232 would be appreciated. PAAPE, James R. (Major, Ret.), born September 21, 1935 to Donald and Ione Paape in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, died January 31, 2000 of lymphoma cancer. While serving in the United States Air Force for 23 years, Jim became a seasoned fighter pilot, retiring in 1977. preceded in death by his father, Donald Paape. Survived by mother, Ione Paape; wife, Darlene; daughter, Beth Ann; son, William James (Lucy); granddaughter, Chelsea Kelsey. Also sister, Jeanne (Ted) Faul; brother, John (Marolyn) Paape, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial Service 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Pastor Harry Rohwer officiating.

RUDOLFO 'RUDY' RIESGO, of Tucson, passed away on January 27, 2000. Born October 31, 1924, Rudy was a loving son, brother and uncle, survived by sisters, Lilly Puentes (Chico, CA), Hortencia Vasquez (Ramon), Elma Marquez (Manny) (Sun City, CA), Julie Yanez (Danny); brother, Lupe Riesgo (Toni); and numerous nieces and nephews. preceded in death by beloved parents, Antonio and Teresa Riesgo; brothers, Antonio, Arnulfo, Robert; and sisters, Teresa Zazueta and Connie Rivera. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War, Rudy served his country in both the Army and Navy. He was working for Catholic Social Services at the time of his death. A kind, caring and giving man, he was actively involved in fund raising activities for the Arizona Children's Home and as a volunteer at Mission View Elementary School in his goddaughter's 1st grade class. All who knew him were touched by his generosity and humanity; he will be missed but never forgotten. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2000 at St. Augustine Church at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Rudy may send a donation to the Arizona Children's Home in his name.

SANDBERG, Elsie C., age 85, of Tucson, passed away January 27, 2000. She is survived by daughter, Eldonna Peterson of Ruthton, Minn.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Kiffer of Tucson, AZ, Esther Apple of Willmar, Minn. and Helen Taylor of Pipestone, Minn. Friends may call Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME (Dodge South of Speedway) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, with Deaconess Beverly Hohman officiating. Burial will be in Ruthton, Minn. at a later date.

FERN SHOWALTER, 84, of Tucson, died January 27, 2000. She is survived by her son, Rick (Cookie) Showalter of Moab, UT; granddaughters, Clarissa (Jon) Van Meter Watson of Tucson, Tami Steven of Wichita, KS; three step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 53 years, Leo Showalter in 1994. Her daughter, Beth Showalter died in 1980. Graveside service, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., Evergreen cemetery. SONNENBERG, Robert Francis 'Bunny' 78, a 45 year resident of Benson, AZ, previously of Tucson, AZ, died January 28, 2000 in Benson. Robert was born on February 8, 1921 in Rochester, Minnesota to Eckhardt Theodore Sonnenberg and Annie Mae Bakke. He was a truck driver for Harrington Trucking for 45 years and a charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is preceded in death by wife, Lucille of Benson and two sons, Thomas and Teddy. Survivors include son, Robert F. Sonnenberg II of Benson; daughter, Luann McGuire of Benson; two daughters by previous marriage; brother, Richard L. Sonnenberg of Tucson, AZ; sister, Betty Lou Haasey of Tucson, AZ; and one grandchild, Teddy McGuire. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2000 at Richardson's Mortuary Chapel, with Cecil R. Richardson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Under Richardson's Mortuary, Benson, AZ.

MARGUERITE B. TOLLE - Born December 1, 1908, died January 29, 2000 in Tucson, Arizona where she had been a resident since 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray William Tolle. Survived by son, Jerry (Joan) and grandchildren, William Martin Tolle and Brenda Kay Tolle. She worked at Myerson's White House Department Store for 35 years. She joined Naomi Rebekah Lodge in 1937. She was Noble Grand in 1944 and became State President in 1959. She was awarded the Declaration of Chivalry for her Lodge work and the Meritorious Service Award for her outstanding community service.
A memorial service will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall, 1150 N. Palo Verde at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oddfellows-Rebekah Visual Research Foundation, 1150 N. Palo Verde, Tucson, AZ 85716.

ALICE TRUMAN - Born December 24, 1922, died January 28, 2000. As the first woman judge of the Pima County Superior Court and the second State of Arizona woman judge, she began her distinguished career in Waggoner, Illinois, population 200.
In grade school she was inspired to be a lawyer by her brother, Beverly Williamson, who attended the University of Arizona law school in the early 1930s. Graduating valedictorian from her Girard Township, Illinois, high school, she continued her education at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. She graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana with a history degree in 1943 and a law degree in 1944.
As a single mother of two pre-school children, she arrived in Tucson in 1953 from Colorado, where she had acted as a justice of the peace, holding court in her living room. Admitted to practice law in Illinois and Colorado, she still had to pass the Arizona bar test. Prior to passing it, she worked as a legal secretary for Clarence Houston with whom she later practiced as a law partner.
In 1958 she defeated five male opponents in her run for justice of the peace. In 1962, as a candidate for the Pima County Superior Court, she defeated John Collins in the democratic primary and Mary Anne Reiman Richey in the general election. Both later became her colleagues on the Superior Court bench. At the time of her retirement in 1992 she was the longest serving superior court judge in Arizona.
Her honors and accomplishments include Woman of the Year award from the Tucson Business and Professional Women's Club, past president of the Arizona Judges Association, charter member of the National Association of Women Judges, and founding member of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association. In December 1999 the Southern Arizona chapter of Arizona Women Lawyers Association honored her by awarding the first annual Alice Truman Award for Excellence in Leadership. She served as a long-time member of the Soroptimist Club, on the board of directors of the Tucson Community Foundation, now the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, and the board of the Pima Council on Aging. She actively participated in a Spectra Dynamics group.
After a whirlwind two-week courtship, she married Edgar Truman on New Year's Eve 1956. In addition to her husband of 43 years, she is survived by daughter, Susan (Dale Clark) Truman; son, Robert (Wanda) Nihan; and sister, Shirley Brown, all of Tucson. Her stepson, Thomas Truman of Phoenix also survives her. Also surviving are her granddaughter, Melissa (Randy) Jukes and great-grandson, Shane Jukes of Indiana. She leaves two nieces, Leslie Joan Williamson and Vickie Jane Tyler, both of Virginia.
A memorial service is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2000 at EAST LAWN MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson. Reception following at East Lawn. Donations may be made in her memory to the Mary Anne Richey Scholarship Fund, c/o The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, 6601 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85715.

WALKER, John R., 68, died January 31, 2000. Survived by wife, Bonnie of 48 years; father of Jonni Stockdale, James Walker and Janice (Ray) Woods; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. John was a real estate broker for many years. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
