NELSON, John Richard, age 74, of Tucson, passed away March 31, 2000. He was born September 14, 1925 in Boise, Idaho. He served in combat in the Army Air Corps in WWII where he avoided capture by the Japanese for eight months after he was shot down over Borneo. He was awarded numerous commendations, including the Air Medal and Purple Heart. After returning to Boise, he met and married his wife of 49 years, Aileen. They moved to Gainesville where he graduated from the University of Florida (Bachelor in Building Construction, '52), and then moved to the southwest where he worked in commercial and industrial construction, eventually settling in Tucson. He loved golf, was a member of numerous WWII veteran groups, and volunteered as a docent at the Pima Air and Space Museum. He was a loving husband and father, and was well liked by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen in 1997, is survived by sons, Chris (Gail) of Springerville, AZ, Arne (Deborah) NAS Sigonella, Italy; daughters, Claudia Nelson of Tucson and Sally (Jay) Pollard of Petaluma, CA; sister, Inez of Boise; four grandchildren, Eric (Sherri), Elissa, Victoria, and Andrew, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at the East Lawn Palms Chapel, 5801 E. Grant, Friday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. Interment immediately following at East Lawn Palms cemetery. Remembrances can be made to the Pima Air and Space Museum. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

FRANCES C. RAMOS, 86, born December 22, 1913 in Tucson, passed away on April 2, 2000. preceded in death by her husband, Jose A. Ramos. Survived by daughters, Alicia (Miguel) Saenz, Theresa (Hector) Lugo and Patricia (George) Mendoza; sons, Enrique 'Macho' (Carmen), Rogelio, Roberto, and Armando Ramos. Also survived by 23 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 7, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 338 W. University Blvd., with a Mass offered at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. Arrangements by CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

ROJAS, Gregorio V., 73, of Tucson, passed away on April 2, 2000. Survived by wife, Magdalena Rojas; daughters, Rosa (Raul) Rodriguez and Maria (Alberto) Rodriguez; sons, Victor, Arnold, Louis (Kerry), and Miguel Rojas; sisters, Rosario Rojas, Concepcion Gallegos, Juanita Rojas and Dionesa Leon; brothers, Juan, Matias and Jose Rojas. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Gregorio will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2000 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, North Chapel, 204 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Friday, April 7, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica's Church. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. TOLER, Arcora D., passed away March 31, 2000 after a brief illness. She leaves behind to mourn her transition, her daughter, Arcora Danielle; her mother, Mildred Robinson; two uncles, Odia Brown and Earl Combs, and a host of cousins and friends. A private service will be held.

WEISER, Ronnie Ray, born in Marion, OH on May 4, 1954, died in Tucson, AZ April 1, 2000. He moved to Tucson in 1975. He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School. Former employee for Tuf Offroad and was presently attending Pima Community College. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Ronald E. Weiser. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Weiser; brother, Larry (Ella) Weiser of Tucson; two sisters, Judy (Merle) Smith and Pamela Weiser both of Marion, OH. Following cremation, burial will be in Marion, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations, in his honor, be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 40 N. Swan Rd., Suite 116, Tucson, AZ 85711. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

WINTER, Dixie Larrabee, 81, of Tucson, died March 29, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carl E.; children, C. Larrabee Winter, Susan Mills, Edward Henry Winter; five grandchildren. Dixie was born in Platte City, MO August 10, 1918, was a graduate of the University of Missouri and a member and President of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She has resided in Tucson since 1958, and was a longtime member of Casas Adobes Congregational Church, where she was one of the first Sunday School teachers. A Memorial Service will be held at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Rd., Friday, April 7, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dixie to the Arthritis Foundation, 616 N. Country Club Rd., Tucson, 85716. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee.

CHESTER, Kenneth, 35, beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, passed away March 29, 2000. He was born on June 15, 1964 in Port Washington, NY and was a resident of Tucson since 1978. He is survived by his parents, Carmine and Anita Chester; sisters, Renee and Robin; grandmother, Marie Chester of Port Washington, NY. He was employed at Summit Hospital as a Pharmacy Tech. Ken coped many years with severe complications of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. He is now at peace and relieved of all his painful suffering. A Memorial Service will be held 12:00, Saturday, April 8 at St. Francis De Sales, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Arrangements made by ARIZONA MORTUARY UNIVERSITY CHAPEL.

MANUEL M. CRUZ, SR., age 87, a lifetime resident of Arizona. He went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2000 in Tucson. Born July 16, 1912 in Benson, Arizona. Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Maria; sons, Manuel (Terry) Cruz, Jr. and Juan (Maria Louisa) Cruz; daughter, Connie C. (Bill) Mendoza; son, Ralph (Gerry) Cruz; daughter, Frances (Frank) Romero; 29 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, Louisa Meza; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends, and his dog, Paco. Predeceased by his daughter, Josie C. Galarza. A visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2000 at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. University Blvd., Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Margaret Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2000. Burial will follow at Holy Hope cemetery.

GILLIES, Joan F., 70, of Tucson, passed away April 3, 2000. Joan worked for the Forest Service at Sabino Canyon. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Bullock of Harrisonburg, VA and Julia Kowal of Rockaway, NJ; her son, Thomas A. Gillies of Tucson; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson; and her brother, Robert Kessler of Allantown, PA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alan T. Gillies. Friends may call at St. Odillia Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte on Friday, April 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Hope cemetery. MATANZA, Larino Licup, 47, of Tucson, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Teofista; children, John, Mario, Mark-Nino, Fatima, Emanuel; parents, Rosalina and Marcelino Matanza; three brothers, four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Matanza was employed by Dataforth. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2000 at Heather Mortuary, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

RITT, Louis C., was born in Evansville, Indiana on January 21, 1932 to Louis A. and Charlotte A. Ritt and died of natural causes in Tucson, Arizona on April 2, 2000 at 68 years of age. Lou lived on Fripp Island in South Carolina from 1992 to 1999, where he was affectionately known as 'Alligator Man'.
Lou is survived by his adult children: Rebecca L. Rhoads, daughter, in Arizona; and sons, Scott L. Ritt and Ben E. Ritt, both of California; as well as two grandchildren, Dustin and Julianne Rhoads; and his former wife and friend, Virginia L. Ritt. He also leaves behind many dear friends and family in California, Arizona, Indiana and South Carolina.
Lou served in the U S Navy during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959 and went to work for Hughes Aircraft Company in Fullerton, California. While working for Hughes, Lou traveled and worked for two years in Augusta, Georgia, two years in El Paso, Texas, and two years in Aachen, Germany. He then transferred to the Hughes Los Angeles site and worked in Washington D.C. for one year, after which he was transferred to Iran for three years and Saudi Arabia for one year. When Lou retired from Hughes Aircraft he moved to Fripp Island, South Carolina. He recently relocated to Tucson, Arizona in the spring of 1999.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens, 455 W. Central Ave., Brea, California 92821, ph.# (714) 529-3961. Tucson arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave. (888-1111).

STEVE SANTORO, age 34, of Tucson, AZ, went to join his beloved wife, Julie on April 2, 2000. He is survived by parents, Frank and Sandy; brother, David; grandmother, Barbara Sheibley; and many other loving family members and friends. Steve was born in Tucson, graduated from CDO High School and attended the University of Arizona. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was currently employed at the 162nd FW Arizona Air National Guard. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (@ Magee), from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2000. Funeral services conducted by Reverend Leonard Karlberg and Pastor Sue Sauerberg will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen cemetery.

BASILIO NOEL SUAREZ, 33, of Tucson, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gastelum; children, Danielle Suarez, Kristine Suarez; his parents, Adolfo Suarez, Sr., Carmen Escalante; sisters, Doreen (Richard) Suarez and Vivian (Emilio) Suarez; brothers, Adolfo Suarez, Jr., Felipe (Elizabeth) Suarez, Richard Bejarano; grandfather, Julio Robles; aunts, uncles, nephews and niece. An all night vigil will start at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2000 with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Ignacio Church. A Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2000 at the church. Burial to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

TRAPPE, Helen L., 88, of Tucson, Arizona, died at home, Sunday, April 2nd, 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Susan L. Lindgren, with whom she lived for 22 years and Pauline I. Kanar of Plattsburgh, NY.
At the request of the deceased a private memorial will be held at a later date. To honor Helen's love and concern for all creatures memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, Special Needs Fund, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716.

ERICKSON, Margaret H., 82, died April 5, 2000. Mother of Ben (Michelle) Erickson of Lake in the Hills, Ill. and Robin (Chris) Rummery of Buda, Ill.; grandmother of Ryan and Patrick; sister of Albert (Dorothy) Goers of Glen Ellyn, Ill., William (Ruth) Goers of Tucson, AZ, Otto Goers of Sun City West, AZ and Ruth Proesel of Dundee, Ill; sister-in-law of Marilyn Goers of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvin, who she married in 1951. She was a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. JOHN M. FOUTY, MAJOR U.S.A.F. RET., 80, died April 5, 2000. Husband of Marion E. Fouty; uncle of Glenn Homan of Cincinnati, OH, Alvin Homan of Bend, OR and Robert E. Homan of Ore City, TX; numerous grand nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Fouty was a life member of Morgan McDermott American Legion Post #7, V.F.W. Post #14000 and D.A.V. Rincon Renegades Chapter #18. A member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #385, The Retired Officers Association, Hump Pilots Association and Phi Delta Kappa. Class of '1942', Lubbock, Texas pilot training, commissioned directly into the U.S. Army Air Corps which later became the U.S. Air Force. He was in the 1st Wing at March Field A.F.B. in California and transferred to Arizona on May 14, 1941 to open Davis Monthan A.F.B. He was a U of A graduate Class of '63'. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2000 at Davis Monthan A.F.B. Chapel #1 with Chaplain Stephen Blair officiating. Military Honors by Davis Monthan Elite Honor Guard. Burial in San Bernardino, California. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9th at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m.

HOLLE, Marie, passed away April 5, 2000. A resident of Tucson since 1957 has gone home, and there is no more pain. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Wayne Holle; her daughter, Sharon Fox; two grandchildren of Indiana and six great grandchildren. The family left behind will never forget her gentle kind ways and the love and care she had for all of us. Private services were held at Green Valley Mortuary & cemetery, Green Valley, AZ.

EDWARD F. JOGANIC
February 21, 1920 – April 5, 2000
Ed brought music to our house. He was an advanced piano student at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA. He also graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy 1944-1946, where he was awarded a Commendation Medal for producing shows that sold war bonds. During his career in aviation he flew early air mail routes and won awards for his designs in helicopter avionics. In 1956 he moved to Tucson to work for Douglas Aircraft and subsequently sold organs and pianos and taught music until his retirement in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Maxine; son, Dr. Edward (Rosemary) Joganic; daughter, Charlene (Charles) Shidisky; brother, John Joganic; sister, Dorothy Leskovec; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a kind and gentle father and will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Road, Friday, April 7, 2000 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2000 at Saint Joseph's Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Interment will be private.
