CAROLIN, Phillip L. Sr. May 10, 1913 – July 20, 1996 Loving and beloved husband of 63 years to His one and only SHIRLEY
Proud father of 10 children; Mary Colleen (who passed away in 1991) (Frank) Anderson, Patricia (William) Krueger, Phillip (Polly) Carolin, Jr., Thomas (Glenda) Carolin, Jane (John) Wenzlaff, Cathleen Redfern, Mark (Jane) Carolin, Terrence (Laura) Carolin, Maureen (Greg) Mills, Paul (Kelly) Carolin. Adoring grandfather of 44 and great-grandfather of 32–and counting. Big brother to Mary O’Malley and Mike (Peggy) Carlin. Phil was the son of an Irish immigrant family. He retired as a sergeant from the Chicago Police in 1966 after 30 years of service, and moved to Tucson. He continued to work at a variety of jobs, including as an extra at Old Tucson for both “Little House on the Prarie’ and “Father Murphy’, as well as a number of movies. When he was hired as the Manager of the parking garage for the old Pioneer Hotel, he found another job he truly loved and made many friends. He helped save lives during the tragic fire there. Phil was respected and admired by all who knew him, and he proudly served God, Family, and Country. Phil’s family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff at El Dorado Hospital for their kindness to him and to us, and especially to his doctor and her staff, for truly understanding the meaning of Family Practice. Visitation at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Monday, July 22, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Parish, 215 S. Craycroft Rd., Tuesday, July 23, at 9:00 a.m. Burial follows at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery.

DeFOOR, Floy E., 77, longtime resident of Tucson, went to be with her savior July 19, 1996. Mrs. DeFoor was preceded in death by her husband Harley. She is survived by her children, Kyle (Charlotte) DeFoor of Tucson and Linda (Richard) Purvis of Phoenix; four grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and three brothers. Friends may call Tuesday, July 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. FUENTES, Joe M., 87, died July 20, 1996. Husband of Bennie L. Fuentes of Tucson, father of Carla, Frank Jr., Grijalva of Tucson, Myrna (George) Dille of Bishop, CA, step-father of Quinta Lever of Australia, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Fuentes was a 20 year employee of Arizona Bureau of Public Roads and served 22 years with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 1996 at The L.D.S. Ft. Lowell Ward, 6150 E. Fairmont with Bishop Chris Monson officiating. RICE, Lawrence L. “Larry’, 66 of Tucson, died July 20, 1996. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Inger and sons, Gary (Pauline) and their children Cody, Kyle, and Shelby, all of Phoenix; Marty of Tucson and Eric (Terri) and their children Tyler and Travis, all of Tucson. Father Wayne Rice of Maysville, MO; brothers, Leo of Canada, Jack of Farber, MO and Edgar of Kansas City, MO; and many nieces and nephews. VILLARREAL, Maria, age 91, of Tucson died Sunday, July 14, 1996. Dear Mother of Rose (Harry) Gomez, Gabriel (Maria) Cordoba and Maria Luisa (Louis) Longorio of Nogales, AZ; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; family in Mexico. FOSTER, Harold J., age 76, of Tucson, died July 21, 1996. Survived by son, Scott Foster, of Ottawa Lake, MI; sisters, Mildred Vitton of Tucson and Gertrude Smith of Clarkston, MI; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers, James and Clinton Foster. Born in Pontiac, MI. Retired from General Motors Truck and Coach division after 34 years. A WWII Veteran. Member BPO Elks Lodge #385, Eagles FOE Aerie #180, and Tucson Let’s Dance Club. Final arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY. HAYES, Eugene Burgess, 76, was born in Watseka, IL and passed away July 15, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sister, Wetona, and brother, Robert; stepchildren, Pamela, Joe, Tom and Paula; and grandchildren, Shane, Stacey, Chad and Trenton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Lee Hayes, brothers, Clayton, Harley, Wayne, Jack and Paul and a sister Betty. He served in WWII in China under Gen. Albert Wedemeyer’s command. He later managed and owned restaurants in Illinois and California. When he came to Tucson he became affiliated with the Salvation Army and he managed two of their stores before his retirement due to ill health. His Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 24, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army Tucson Temple Corps, 1001 N. Richey Blvd., 85716. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Temple Corp or the Hospice Family Care Inc., 3443 E. Ft. Lowell Rd., Tucson, AZ 85716.

HIGDON, Martha E., 74, of Tucson passed away on July 19, 1996 after struggling with Parkinsons and cancer. She is survived by her very loving husband, Joe; four children, Joe, Mike, Steve and Tim; daughters-in-law, Tina and Charlotte. She also enjoyed the company of 10 grandchildren, Mike, Tom, Chris, Tracey, Curt, David, Joey, Joelle, Emily and Adam. She was born in Cooper, TX. and moved to Tucson in 1945. She is also survived by loving brothers, Russell, Gary, Curtis; and sister, Veda. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinsons Disease Association. Martha was a kind and gentle person who enlightened all who knew her. She as a devoted mother, grandmother and sister, her loving ways gave us strength in our lives. Her battle to stay with us was difficult, but she is now in a far better place. Rosary at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, July 24 at 6:30 p.m. Services at St. Frances Cabrini, 3201 E. KAYE, Joseph, 80, passed away July 20, 1996. He was predeceased in death by his wife, Kitty; and his son, Joseph II. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Marjorie Nelson-Kaye, St. Augustine, FL; sister-in-law, Stephanie Dunlap, Secaucus, NJ; granddaughters, Laura (Terry) Gray, San Diego, Kendra Kaye, Tucson, Christine (Jerry) Cockerell, Tucson, Andrea Dishner, Tucson; grandsons, Steven Kaye, Tucson, Patrick Kaye, Long Beach, and Josef Kaye, Tucson. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Lacy Gray, Travis Kuhn, Cassandra Kuhn, Nicole Dishner and Daniel Dishner. Private services were held. KROEPLIN, Irene S., 79, passed away July 20, 1996 in Carrollton, TX. She was born in Plaza, ND on March 31, 1917. She is survived by her husband, Erwin Kroeplin of Trinidad, TX; children, Shirley Willhite of New Ark, DE, Gerald Kroeplin of Carrollton, TX., Rodney Kroeplin of Grand Prairie, TX.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Raymond of Alta Loma, CA.; brothers, George Ruud of Parshall, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. LOHRENZ, Donald L. “Pete’, Sr., CMSGT, USAF, Ret., 66, passed away Saturday, the 20th of July, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. He was born on the 31st of August in Ulysses, KS. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Earlyne K. Lohrenz; sons, Michael Ross of Grants Pass, OR, Donald L., and Steven Earl; and daughter, Lorenda Jean Barnard, all of Tucson. Beloved grandfather (Depa) of Alicia Marie of Grants Pass, OR, Ryan Lewis, Casey Wayne, Kati Lee Lohrenz, Rodger Vincent, Erik Lewis, and Randall Laurens Barnard, all of Tucson; a sister, Hazel Young Dexter, KS; a brother, Willard of Levenworth, KS; and many nieces; nephews; and good friends. Donald “Pete’ served 26 years in the United States Air Force, was distinguished with many Military Merits, and served world wide. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. MENDIVIL, Gertrude C., 82, of Antioch, CA passed away July 17, 1996. Preceded in death by husband, Frank Mendivil. Survived by daughters, Vicky Collins of Antioch, Mary and Elena Mendivil of San Francisco and Cecilia Fogarty of MN; sons, Paul Mendivil of ME and Ray Mendivil of Antioch; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. PEARSON, Charles L., 40, died July 17, 1996. Beloved son of Norma M. Pearson of St. Louis, MO and Jack L. Pearson of Seattle, WA; dear brother of Sandra Miller of Denver, CO and Lori Bailey of Arnold, MO. Memorial Service 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Parish, 4440 N. SHELBY, Burton Eugene, 75, passed away July 18, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. Formerly of Hobart, Indiana. Born October 17, 1920 in Soper, OK. Survived by brother, Reif and Polly Shelby; sisters, Leah and Elmer Cook and Marietta and Silas Mills; many nieces and nephews. Burton was loved by all. Preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Opal Shelby; brothers, Walter Lee and Keith B. and sister, Rowena Nadine. At the families request there will be no memorial at this time. Memorial donations can be made to Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging, Bregman Adult Day Care Center, 5100 E. Grant Rd., 85712.

STUART, Clara E., 92, died July 19, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Roy Stuart of Tucson; nieces, Phylis Stamper of Oregon, IL and Bonnie Holtz of Pensacola, FL; nephew, L.L. “Buddy’ Rotramel of Los Angeles, CA; her extended family, Diana and David Rahn, Michael and Matthew Baird, all of Tucson. Clara will be held closely in our hearts and forever remembered as a dear and loving wife, relative and friend. Clara loved children and was at her best with them. She was a caring, generous person who always put others first. She will be missed dearly by all whose lives she has touched. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Carondelet Holy Family Hospice, 1802 W. St. Mary’s Rd., Tucson, AZ 85745-2690. Clara had chosen to be cremated and requested there be no Memorial Service; however, there will be a Visitation for friends and family on Thursday, July 25, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Stuart’s home, 3152 N. Sioux Ave., Tucson, AZ.

THESMAN, Herbert V., 79, of Berryton, KS, a annual visitor to Tucson, died July 18, 1996 in a Topeka Kansas hospital. He is survived by his wife, Anna Ruth Thesman of Berryton, KS; two daughters, Jan Goeller of Tucson, AZ, and Vicki Dougan of Houston TX; and three grandchildren, Dustin, Lindsay, and Adrienne Goeller. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m., July 22 at First Baptist Church, Topeka. Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m. July 23 at the Mennonite Brethern Cemetery, Enid, OK. TOLBERT, Ursula, 59, of Tucson, passed away July 22, 1996. Survived by husband, Willie Tolbert; daughter, Mona Tolbert; sister, Marianne King; brother, Dieter Nottelmann; grandson, Tristan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 1996 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (Center Chapel), 240 S. HITE, Caroline, 61, died July 18, 1996. Mother of Robert (Lisa) Hite of Tucson; grandmother of Emily Hite and Sarah Hite, both of Tucson; numerous other loving relatives and friends also survive. JOHNSON, Billy Joe, 28, passed away July 4, 1996. Former resident of Taylor, MI and an eight year resident of Tucson will be dearly missed.
