HUARAQUE, Marcial A., 88, died December 17, 1996. Preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo; and sisters, Lupe Romero and Manuela Huaraque. Father of Frank (Sharon) Huaraque of Tucson, Marshall Huaraque of Las Vegas, NV, Carmen (Richard) Gigliotti and Christina (Steve) Madrigal all of Tucson; brother of Francisca McCord of Tucson; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Mass will be offered 9:00 a.m. Monday, December 23 at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Burial in Holy Hope Cemetery.Arrangements by BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

JONES, Harold Ray 'Bob'. Former park superintendent died Saturday, December 14, 1996, of heart disease at his home in Tucson. He was 71 years old. He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann; his four sons, Charley, Mike and Scott of Tucson and Richard of Clinton, Mississippi; five grandchildren and three older brothers. Bob was born in California but grew up in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Loveland, Colorado. He served in the Marine Corps in WW II and graduated from Colorado A&M with a degree in forestry and recreation management. He went on to a 34-year career in the National Park Service that saw assignments to Rocky Mountain NP, Wind Cave NP, Scotts Bluff NM, Catoctin Mountain Park/Baltimore Washington Parkway, Saguaro NP and at the Omaha, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. offices. During the 60's as a park planner he was intimately involved in new area studies that resulted in numerous additions to the National Park system. His expertise was extended to international assignments planning parks in both east Africa and Panama. He was Superintendent of Saguaro National Park from 1967 to 1972. In 1968 Bob received the Department of Interior’s Meritorious Service Award, it’s second highest honor. During his retirement he and Pat returned in 1992 to live in Tucson. A celebration of life to honor Bob will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21st, at the home of George and Alice Hanley located 1/2 mile east of Houghton Rd. on Speedway in Tucson.

KOPPLIN, Nancy A., 60, of Tucson passed away December 14, 1996. Survived by daughter Debra; sons, David (Amanda), and Michael; ex-husband Alvin; sisters, Laurene (Rainhold) Benisch of Columbus, WI, and Marlene (Robert) Bills of Madison, WI, and brother, Robert of Madison, WI; grandson Rand Matthew; many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by brother Russell (Loras) of Stevens Point, WI. Nancy loved the mountains, the desert, all of nature’s beauty, and enjoyed camping with family and friends. Most of all, she loved her family – they were the most important part of her life. She was greatly loved by family and friends, and will be sorely missed. Private family service. A celebration of life to honor Nancy will be held for family and friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Nancy’s name to the American Cancer Society.

LEEHAN, Margaret J., 75, died December 18, 1996. Survived by her husband, Edwin D. Leehan; sons, Matthew and Edwin (Sandi) Leehan; grandchildren, Samantha and Adrian; sister-in-law, Cissie Mager; niece, Kim Eaker. Friends may call Friday, December 20, 1996 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Funeral Mass will be held 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 1996 at St. Francis Cabrini Church, 3201 E. Presido. Inurnment will be at Holy Hope Cemetery at a later date.

ZAMPLAS, Jennie, 109, of Tucson, died December 18, 1996. She was the beloved mother of George (Helen) of Hendersonville, NC, Christopher of Westland, MI, William (Eugenia) of Levonia, MI, Ethel (Mario) Salvaterra of Tucson; fond grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of 12. Services and Interment will be held in Troy, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Directed by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

BRAUN, Peggy L., 59, died December 17, 1996. Devoted wife of Dale Braun of Tucson; Beloved mother of Billy D. Gaines of Tucson and Robin L. (Andy) Andre of Prescott; cherished grandmother of Corey Andre and Michelle Andre. She was active in the Tucson Womens Bowling League and the 500 Club. She touched the hearts of all and will be missed by many. Memorial Service 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 1996 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Pastor Robert Keim officiating. BRESSLER, Iris R., 82, died December 18, 1996. Mother of Martha Swiger of PA, Rita (Jerry) Tulino of Tucson and Faith Harris of IL; sister of Loisellen Datta of HI; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. David Bressler. She was founder of the Jane Austin Society, active in the League of Women Voters, member of AAUW, volunteer at Sun Sounds and inactive bridge player. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 1996 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. CHRISTENSEN, Helen C., 82, died December 17, 1996. Sister of John Beck of MT; aunt of Joan Stoddard of CA; and James Beck of MT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Christensen. CLARKSON, Lucie E., 83, died December 17, 1996. Sister of John E. Estes of El Paso, TX and Dorothy E. Wimberley of TX; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. J.H. Estes. She was employed as a clerk for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 28 years before retiring 20 years ago. She was a member of the Catalina Untied Methodist Church, Eastern Star of Santa Rosa N.M., Oasis Court #75 of Tucson, National Assoc. of Retired and Veterans Railroad Employees, Old Pueblo Unit #63, Tucson. She took great pleasure in serving her church and loved to play bridge. Memorial Service, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway with Rev. HILL, Dean J., 77, of Tucson, died December 17, 1996. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hugh. Survived by wife, Doris C. JACKSON, William Robert, on December 17, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by wife of 55 years, Jane Zinger; daughters, JoAnne (Philip) Jager of Lansing, MI and Santa Fe, NM, Barbara Schultz of Bethlehem, PA, Gail (Roger) Loomis of Honeoye, NY; sons, William R. Jr., and James G. of Tucson; brother, Fred of Centerville, OH; and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Jackson was born in Belfort, Northern, Ireland March 3, 1916, the son of Alicia Armstrong Clemens and Fredrick Jackson. He immigrated with his family to Wyandotte, MI, where he attended local schools. He also attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and worked for many years as a chemical engineer. Having been an active volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, he served as Executive Secretary of the Central Council in Detroit. He participated in many charitable and church related activities until failing health limited these involvements. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were active members of the AARP in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Arizona where they held local, regional and state offices. Private funeral arrangements.

LEIDNER, Evelyn Meredith, 78, born January 3, 1918 in Greenville Township, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, December 14, 1996. Preceded in death by her husband Otto H. Leidner August 30, 1994. Survived by son, Walter D. (Roxie) Leidner; daughters, Rita K. (Robert) Wiley and Linda L. Leidner; grandchildren, Casey Leidner, Kellie (Jon) Chicci, Stephanie( Raymond) Kempf, Martin O. Leidner, Christopher Wiley, Sun-Ae Wiley, Bryan Wiley, Lea Wiley, Jenna Wiley and Kari Wiley; great-grandchildren, Kimberly Wiley, Cody Kempf and Riley Chicci. Evelyn and children followed Otto to Tucson in April, 1955 from Farmington, MN. Evelyn was a homemaker and a very caring person. She was involved with her children and their friends, her grandchildren and their friends and many other people whom she loved and cared for through the years. She will be sorely missed. Memorial Service Saturday, December 21 at 5:00 p.m. at Innsuites, 102 N. Alvernon, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Evelyn’s name to your favorite charity.

NICHOLS, Claude L. Sr., 88, of Tucson, died December 17, 1996. Survived by wife, Lucille Nichols of Tucson; son, Claude L. (JoAnn) Nichols, Jr. of Tucson; daughters, Claudia (Edward) Pauling of Pinetop, AZ and Cynthia (Raymond) Bomesberger of Marana; brother, James Lee Nichols of Breckenridge, TX; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. QUEZADA, Marcelo M., 63, of Tucson, passed away December 17, 1996. Survived by wife, Tomasa Quezada; daughters, Lorenza (Juan) Hernandez, Celia (Bobby) Martinez, Gloria Gutierrez; sons, Jesus (Sylvia), Juan (Anita), Marcelo Jr., Hector (Romelia) and Miguel Quezada; sister, Dolores Quezada; brothers, Manuel and Socorro Quezada; 29 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 1996 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Saturday, December 21, 1996 at Santa Cruz Church at 8:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. ROHDE, Vida Perry, age 95, died on Sunday, December 15, 1996. Predeceased by husband, Albert W. Rohde in 1987. Survived by four sons, Bert of Boston, Carl of New Orleans, Thomas of Pasadena, CA and Robert of Roseburg, OR; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was a native of Newfoundland, Canada and resided in Tucson for the past 35 years. Private burial arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests that Memorial Donations be made to the Parkinson’s Association.

VALENCIA, Jose Angel Sr. (Maestro), 85, of Tucson, passed away December 14, 1996. Preceded in death by wife, Maria Joaquina Felix Valencia. Survived by daughters, Maria V. Cupis, Virginia (Rudy) Haro; son, Jose A. (Josie) Valencia Jr; seven grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was committed to serving his family, friends and community. He was greatly respected by all cultural communities. He will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 1996 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Capilla De San Martin De Porres, 418 W. 39th St. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Saturday, December 21, 1996 at 9:00 a.m. at Capilla De San Martin De Porres Church. VAN CLEEF, Shirley Clarke, 83, of Tucson, died December 15, 1996. Mrs. Van Cleef came to Arizona from New England in 1960. In 1962 she opened a candle shop, Casa De Luz in the De Grazia Studios at the corner of Prince and Campbell. After retiring she concentrated on writing poetry. She is survived by one son, Henry of Denver, CO; two daughters, Susanna Joannidis of Cambridge, MS and Shirley Sullivan of Denver, CO; two nieces, Sally Dallas of Phoenix and Cecily Gill of Tucson; and six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at DeGrazias Mission in the Sun, 6300 N. Swan on Friday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy or charity of your choice.
