Wife of Maurice Sugarman; mother of Ivan (Trudy) Sugarman, Linda Sue (Richard) McKinley both of Tucson and Kenneth (Pat) Sugarman of Douglas; two brothers and three sisters, all of Canada; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Services, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14 at Holy Hope Cemetery, with Father Francisco Maldonado officiating. Mrs. Sugarman was a charter member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. The family suggests donations in her name to the church. Arrangements by BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

WINTERS, Michael Allen, 28, died December 7, 1996. Husband of Sarah Elizabeth Winters; Father of Catherine 'Katie' Lee Winters of Tucson; son of Daniel and Christine Winters; and brother of Jessica (Jeff) Wells of Tucson; grandson of Juliane Winters of Tucson and Beatrice Bagby of Yuma; great-grandson of Mulford Winfor of Yuma; nephew, Ryan Wells also survive. BAKER, Ailene E., 89, of Tucson, died December 9, 1996. Survived by husband, Charles H. Baker; son, Robert W. Baker both of Tucson; brothers, Chester George Beaufort of PA, Arthur J. EHMKE, Eleanor Mae, 75, died December 9, 1996. Mother of Norman Ehmke of Showlow and Karen Edwards of Tucson; grandmother of Christopher Edwards, Jason Ehmke, Jeremy Ehmke, Donovan Edwards, Justin Ehmke and Joshua Ehmke; sister of Art Shaffer of CA; three great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by husband, Lester W. Ehmke. Funeral Service, 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 1996 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with (son) Norman Ehmke officiating. FIMBRES, Manuel G., 85, of Tucson, passed away December 9, 1996. Survived by daughters, Mary Lou F. Duran, Theresa F. Mendoza, Stella F. Gonzales, Nellie F. Smith; sons, David, Cruz, Richard, Reuben Fimbres; sisters, Ortencia and Ramona Fimbres; brother, Victor Fimbres; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 1996 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, December 13, 1996 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 South Stone Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. GEARHART, David Barker, passed on December 4, 1996. Born December 16, 1904 in Hopkinton, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Mickey; his sister, Mary Schipull; and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothea Gearhart. David was father to Carole who predeceased him; grandfather to Carole’s adult daughters, Kathie and Kelly; and stepfather to Deborah and her husband, Fred, as well as Jane and her husband, John. He is also survived by seven other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Father 'Bud' O’Dell, the afternoon of Thursday, December 12, at Saguaro Canyon Church, near Houghton and Old Spanish Trail. It was David’s wish that any memorial gifts be made to the Salvation Army.

GEHRKE, Arlie E. 67, of Tucson, died suddenly December 6, 1996. Survived by loving wife, Hermine; children, Jeff, Lynda, Michael and James; brothers, Kenneth and Stanley; five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara; parents and sister. Services were private. Arrangements conducted by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. Rest in peace until we meet again.

KEPHART, Jean Frances, 70, of Tucson, died December 10, 1996. Survivors include: sister, Maureen McCrillis of Puntagorda, FL; brother, John Duffy of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kephart was preceded in death by her husband, Hammond L. Kephart in 1994. She taught several years at Wheeler Elementary School. Memorial Services will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen St. Tucson, AZ. Further services and burial will be held from the Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro, Maryland. Memorial donations may be made to The Organ Fund or to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen St. Tucson, AZ 85719 in the name of Jean Kephart. LEATON, Jerry Lee, 39, of Marana, died December 10, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughter, Brandi Leaton of Tucson; parents, Gerald and Carolyn Leaton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Richard Leaton, York, Penn and grandmother, Dorothy Page of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 1996 at HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. McKIM, Margaret N., 82, of Tucson, died December 9, 1996. She is survived by a son, Bill Reynolds, Sr.; and daughter, Bonnie Waterman; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Services will be private. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

MOORE, Richard, 50, passed away suddenly on December 8, 1996. He is survived by wife, Georgia; son, Scott; daughter, Alissa; stepson, Gabe; stepdaughter, Jessie all of Flagstaff; mother, Laura Perkins of Tucson; sister, JoAnn and her husband, Jeff Grover of CA; brother, Sheridan Moore of Tucson. Richard has resided in the Flagstaff area since 1980. Richard worked as a rehabilitation counselor and a carpenter. He loved music and played guitar in a musical group known as the Earth Tones. Richard was dearly loved and will be missed greatly. Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis in the Foothills River and Swan at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 1996. Dr. David Wilkinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Francis in the Foothills, River and Swan.

NEREIM, Nichole T.T.F., 21, of Tucson passed away December 5, 1996. Grandparents, Robert and Ruth Nereim. Survived by parents, Angelita A. and Frederick S. Nereim; brother; Travis H. ARNOLD, Elmer Joseph, 93, entered into eternity December 8, 1996. Husband of Freda 'Teddy' F. Arnold of Tucson; father of Roberta (Domenic) Tursi of Tubac; grandfather of Roberta Don, Diana Wright and Laurence Tursi; six great-grandsons also survive. He was preceded in death by daughter, Josephine Etta. Mr. Arnold resided in Tucson for the past 20 years, having moved here from Philadelphia where he had been employed by Westinghouse Corporation for over 40 years. Memorial Rosary, 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 1996 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with father Mike Martinez officiating. Interment will be in Jackson N.H.

BARRETTE, Thomas Marvin, 59, of Tucson, died Friday, December 6, 1996 at his home. He was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin and settled in Tucson in 1963. Mr. Barrette received his B.F.A. and M.A. Degrees form the University of Arizona. He was one of the founding members of the Pima Air and Space Museum and served as the Director of Research and Education for many years. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen Barrette; daughters, Ann (Armando) Gonzalez, Susan (Stephen) Barrette-Mozes; son, Willy (Jeannie) Barrette; four grandchildren, Cydney Lee Barrette, Stephen Gonzalez, Thomas Gonzalez, Hannah Mozes; brothers, John Barrette, Jim (Alice) Barrette, Dave (Lorraine) Barrette, all of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; sisters, Margaret Slewitski of Mosinee, WI and Rita (Ray) Kotz of Lakeland, FL. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 1:00 p.m., St. Joseph’s Church, 215 S. Craycroft Rd. with Rev. John F. Ault officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Hope Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Father of Gayle Brockelsby of Show Low; brother of Elbridge of Casper, WY, Allen of Glenrock, WY, Louie of Florida, Jack of Cheynne, WY, Richard of Payson, AZ, Mabel Hanna of Forest Grove, OR, Mary Harlow of Lompoc, CA, Catherine Proffitt of Loredo, TX, Missy Nickerson of Casper, WY, and Lois Ann Pinney of Apache Junction, AZ; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Memorial Service, 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 1996 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Dr. Wayne North officiating.

DE LA TORRE SOLTERO, Jose. In Memory of Jose de la Torre Soltero. Born January 31, 1919 died December 8, 1996. Survived by his brother, Manual de la Torre; wife, Maria de la Torre; five children, Francisco de la Torre, Marta Rodriguez, Elena Nelson, Arturo de la Torre, Claudia de la Torre and 19 grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His sprit and love will always remain in our hearts. Jose was born in Colima, Mexico. Here he learned his craft as a young man and perfected it in Guadalajara. As a young man he moved to Chicago, IL where he became a master baker. Then in 1960 he moved his family to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to his older children in Mexico. At this time he became employed with the Lujans on south Fourth Avenue. Jose de la Torre worked for Lujan Pastries for 27 years. He was one of the best bakers in Arizona. Without Jose, Lujan Pastries would not have been remembered as producing the best Mexican pastries in Arizona or the Southwest. Jose was a creative and gourmet baker ahead of his time. His recipes looked like traditional pastries but in fact were made with the freshest ingredients with exactly the right amounts of all to bring forth a delicate taste that became the Lujan Pastries signature. The Lujans are grateful to all the de la Torre family for all their support. We send him to the light with love…We will miss his magic touch…

MEADOR, Earl 'Gene' 73, died December 4, 1996. Survived by his wife, Shirlee;children, James Meador, Dorothy (Terry) Clarke, Cindy Meador, Sheryl Hunt, Coy (Mike) Skinner and Marilee 'Copy' Logan; brother, Lowell Meador; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; favorite niece and nephew, Gloria and Wayne Adams. Preceded in death by his twin sister, Maxine Graham. Earl was a conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 38 years before his retirement. Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with American Legion Post #36 officiating. Canez and Sylvia, Jose Oropeza Sr. Survived by parents, Diane Martinez, Alfredo Oropeza Sr. (Lydia); fiancee, Veronica Mata (Paul and Julia Mata); brothers, Richard D. (Leah) Ramirez and Rene C.
