WILBUR, Jerry Francis III, age 40, of Sonoita, AZ, died March 26, 1997. Survivors include wife, Carol of Sonoita; son, Jerry Wilbur IV of Sonoita; daughters, Carolyn Wilber of Sonoita; Tosha Wilbur of Kentucky; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry F. Wilbur Jr.; sisters, Carol (Lee) Baines of Ft. Worth, TX, Janice (Dr. Larry) Woodruff of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Neelann Arnold of Tucson. Memorial Services were held at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 1:00 p.m. March 29, 1997 with Father Tim officiating. YOUNG, Jack W., 62, of Tucson, went to be with the Lord on March 27, 1997. Beloved husband of Susan; loving father of Scott W. Young, Luann (John) Hanley; brother, Jim (Georgiana); stepdaughters, Cathryn (Dale) Pfau, Courtney (Khris) Dodge; grandchildren, Tyler, Jeff, Greg, Kate, Katie, Charlie, Krysten and Madison; niece, DeeDee; nephew, Jud; sister-in-law, Rev. Joanne R. (Walter) Robbins, Marilyn (Richard) Fritz and Chrissy DeFontenay. Preceded in death by his truly wonderful parents, Frank W. and Kathryn Young and stepdaughter, Christie. Also other relatives and many friends, including his special buddy, Anja. His love of sports was legion; he was an excellent tennis player, golfer and loved the U. of A. teams. Along with his sports life, he always found time to involve himself in many service organizations such as the Jaycees, the Cancer Society, The Elks and the Marshall Home for Men. Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Cancer Fund, the Heart Fund, the Marshall Home for Men, or to a charity of your choice.

BENGE, Charline A. (Jimmie), 67, died March 27, 1997. Mother of Rae Ann (John) Barone, John Wesley (Jeannie) Benge, Cathy (Ken) Benge-Price, Charles (Kebbie) Benge, Michael (Lisa) Benge, Mary Lynn Fairchild and Patrick Clinton Benge; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Father Mike Martinez officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. CURRIE, James L., 79, of Benson, AZ., loving father and grandfather, passed away March 25, 1997. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Margaret 'Peggy' in 1992. Survived by his daughters, Judith A. Currie of Jacksonville, FL, Jeanne (Lester) Robertson of Tucson; sons, Robert (Rick) Currie of Pomerene and Mark J. (Linda) Currie of Little Rock, AK; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tracy) Robertson, Julie (John) Kittle, Jason Robertson, Tonya and Taryn Currie; great-grandchildren, Jourdan Leigh Robertson and Mark Phillip Robertson. James moved to Tucson in 1940, where he owned and operated Atlas Blueprint Co. for many years. He retired from Tucson Electric Power in 1979. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 1997 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Dr. Roger Barrier officiating. DESMOND, Bertha L., 76, of Tucson passed away March 24, 1997 at 1: 33 a.m. Survived by her daughter, Yolanda Walsh; son Santiago Linarez Desmond; five grandchildren, Sonya Vega, Felicia Vega, Monique Desmond, Yvonne Desmond, Renee Desmond. Marsolek; son, Duane (Pamela) Marsolek, Sterling, VA; Sisters, Eleanor Budnick, Minn. and Ella Marchey, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Mabel Norton, Calif. and Helen Buscombe, Tucson; grandchildren, Lori Marsolek, W. Virginia, Brad Marsolek, North Carolina, Gregory Marsolek, Tucson and Bryant Robert of Colorado; great-grandchild, Christina Robert. PLATT, Shirley May, 80, died March 28, 1997. Survived by her children, G. Dale (Carolyn) Platt and Karen (James) Cochran; grandchildren, Piper, Kendall, Christine, Warren and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Ruth, Elisa, Sonia and Rebecca; sisters, Earlene Sullivan and Olive Bangle. Preceded in death by son, Gary W. Platt, killed in action during Vietnam War in 1965. Shirley has been a resident of Tucson for the past 17 years, moving from Colorado. He is preceded in death by wife, parents, brothers, Ventura and Federico, sisters, Benita, Julia and Maria. He leaves to enjoy his memories, jokes and love of baseball; his children, Angie (Manuel) Enriquez, Betty (Francisco) Montano, Rudy (Jane Contreras), Dina (Daniel) Miranda, Maribel (Rene Villalobos), Miguel (Evie), Gloria (Emiliano) Martinez, Blanca (Rafael) Enriquez; brother, Jorge Pro’ and sister, Concha Duran; 43 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, compadres and amigos. Member of Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Cursillo Movement, YMCA-LOHSE, El Rio Neighborhood Center, St. Margaret’s Church Ushers, Tucson Toros Booster Club. Pallbearers, Rudy, Francisco, Manuel, Daniel, Mario, Arturo, Miguel and Antonio. Visitation will be Monday, March 31, 1997 at St. Margaret’s Church, 801 N. SPARKS, Mary Helen, 80, of Tucson, AZ, passed away March 28, 1997. Preceded in death by husband of 50 years, Joseph. Born in Wanatha, IN in 1917. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College and the University of WI. Survived by her son, Eric of Tucson and Stephen, a teacher in Hooks, TX and six grandchildren, Ashley, Eric Jr., Royce, Christina, James and Daniel Sparks. Services at Geisen Funeral Home in Merrillville, Indiana.

TRACHTA, Stanley W., August 16, 1911-March 26, 1997. Mr. Trachta was a Marine aviator, attorney and community volunteer. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret A. Trachta; children, Mary Glenn Winscott and S. Jon (Pam) Trachta; grandchildren, Mary Michelle Winscott and Michael Winscott. Memorial service Wednesday April 9, 10:00 a.m. at La Cholla Air Park (N. on La Cholla to end, rt on Moore Rd., left on Tailwind, rt on Cessna Way). Memorial donations to University Heart Center or Episcopal Church of the Apostles.

WALKER, Robert V., 82, passed away March 26, 1997. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Violet M. Walker; children, Robert Walker of Phoenix and Bonnie Warren of Tucson; grandchildren, Scott Warren, Robert Walker, Chris McGraw, Gary Walker and Holly Taherkhan; great-grandchildren, Bonnie, Trevi, Megan, Callie, Carly, Jessica, Gina, Brandy, Layla, Bijan and Alex. A family memorial service will be held Monday, March 31, 1997, 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Food Bank. BAER, Richard A. Died March 26, 1997 at his home in Saddlebrooke. He will be deeply mourned and forever loved by his wife of 50 years, Babette; his three children, David (Linda) of Piedmont, CA, Laurence (Muriel) of Laurel, MD, Janet Elisabeth (Peter) of Brookline, MA; ten grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Howard (Blanche) of Plant City, FL.
Dr. Baer was born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 5, 1921. After graduating from the University of Michigan and University of NY Medical School at Buffalo, he served a year’s internship at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY before joining the Navy. He spent two years on the medical staff of the Great Lakes Training Center Hospital and then complete further training in surgery and urology at Mt Sinai Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital, and Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Baer returned to Niagara Falls where he practiced urology for 22 years. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urologic Association. Among his honors were election to fellowship in both the American and Royal Canadian Colleges of Surgery. He served as president of both the Niagara County Medical Society and the Buffalo Urological Society, and was an enthusiastic teacher as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Urology at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
In 1975, Dr. Baer and his wife moved to Tucson. He was hired by THMEP to serve as Chief of Urology and Director of the Urology training program, at the County and Kino Community Hospitals from 1975 to 1983. After a brief retirement, Dr. Baer served eight years as the first Urologist of the Salt Lake City FHP Medical Group before returning again to Tucson to retire. Not the type to consider retirement an all or nothing event, Dr. Baer served as a cruise physician for Society Expeditions. He thoroughly enjoyed his full life with his family, his varied medical practice experiences, and his love of golf, traveling, sailing, and skiing. He faced his final challenge with the same strength, courage, humor, and grace he demonstrated throughout his life. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Club House at Saddlebrooke at 3:00 p.m. on April 6 by Rabbi Jeffrey Ronald of Temple Emanu-El.

BEECK, Hermann Jay, 37, of Tucson, passed away March 25, 1997. Survived by his daughter, Aimie Beeck of Tucson; father Hermann (Olga) Beeck; mother, Wendy (Robert) Hall of Orange, CA; grandfather, Hermann Beeck Sr.; sisters, Jana, Joy and Jodie. We wish to thank Joel Mitchell and Maria Rupert for always being there for Jay. Visitation was held Thursday, March 27, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Funeral Services will be held today, March 28, 1997 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

CURREN, Joseph 'Jo Jo' 8, of Tucson, died March 25, 1997. Survived by mother, Deborah; father, James; sisters, Ayla, Destiny, Denise; brother, Justin; grandparents, Alexander and Carol Curren and a host of friends. Services will be held at the Graveside, Saturday 11:00 a.m. at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 N. Oracle Rd. Friends may call Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. MOYER, Lloyd E., 76, born December 9, 1920, died March 24, 1997 at Northwest Hospital after a long illness. Survived by wife, Billie; daughter, Sheila and sons, Nathan and Mike; also three step children, Charlie Jack and Tommie; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
