DONALD, Alice Wheeler, of Tucson, passed away April 4, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth. She is survived by her son, Peter G. Donald of Denver, CO; daughter, Janet D. Miller of Tucson; six grandchildren; one great grandson; sister, Dorothy W. Cook of Mt. Pleasant, PA. Memorial Services will be held this summer in Temple, NH. The family suggests donations may be made to the Arizona Sonoran Desert museum or to Radcliffe College as she was actively involved with both for many years.

FREEMAN, Stephen Douglas. Memorial Services for Stephen Douglas Freeman will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the Central Church of the Nazarene, 404 S. Columbus. Freeman, 45, died April 6, 1997 in his sleep after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born May 6, 1951 in Cambridge, Mass. He was a resident of Farmington, NM, but lived in Tucson, Ariz much of his life. He graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1969. He was a respiratory therapist for 25 years, working both in Tucson and Farmington. He had a Bachelors of Science and a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Freeman was known for his smile and ability to make everyone laugh. He will be remembered as a great father, good husband, grandpa, son and brother. He is survived by his wife, Jean Freeman of Farmington; children, Stephen Grooms (Monica), Travis Freeman, Michelle Freeman; parents, Millan and Marge Freeman of Tucson; brother, Greg Freeman (Joanne Werner); sisters, Jennifer Freeman-Atwood (Sonny), Heather Freeman-Madsen (Dennis); he had one grandchild, Madison Grooms and a niece and nephew, Lauren and Zachary. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Albuquerque Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2021 Girard Blvd, SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.

LANDRETH (BUNGER), Tonja, age 49, passed away on April 4, 1997. Survived by son, Raymon Landreth; sister and brother-in-law, Renee and Larry Kilburn; niece, Jennifer Dobbs; great nephew, Cody Dobbs; long time close friend, Mary Varela. Memorial Services were held at 22nd Street Baptist Church Monday, April 7, 1997. Donations in her name to The American Cancer Society or St. Marys’ Hospice.

LARRABEE, Richard Austin. Born December 10, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Died April 3, 1997 in Tucson, AZ of a long term heart condition. Survived by sons, Austin, Earl and James of Tucson; brother, James (Ann) Larrabee of Tucson and sisters, Patricia Kassebaum of Silver Spring, Maryland and Nicki (Barton) McNeil of New York City and several nieces and nephews. Richard graduated from Albion College in Michigan and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an insurance representative for several local agencies. Richard was in the Vestry at the Church of the Resurrection (7110 South 12th Ave.) where services will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Church of the Resurrection or to the charity of your choice. LAUDERDALE, Edna, 95, died April 5, 1997. Mother of Anna Faulkenbery of Tucson and Walter (Dorothy) Harper of Phoenix; sister of Lloyd Hahn of Texas; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive. A private family service will be held in the mountains of Colorado. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

LICHTENBERGER, Hope C., 77, of Tucson, Arizona, died April 1, 1997. Survived by loving husband of 58 years, Adolph E. Lichtenberger; son, Stan Lichtenberger of Pamona, CA; daughter, Diana Ramariz of Ontario, CA; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 1997 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 602 W Ajo Way. Interment was held at South Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, April 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

PARRISH, Jeanne Erlene, 71, died April 7, 1997. Mother of Angeline Herrera of Tucson, Sandy Jean Sandoval of Reseda, CA and Anthony Dean Parrish of Douglas; sister of, Wayne Medearis of Sierra Vista; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by husband, Clifton Parrish; and daughter, Carla Dale Lopez. Mass will be offered 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 1997 at St. Andrew the Apostle, 800 Taylor Dr., Sierra Vista, AZ with Father Gregory Adolph officiating. The family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Cancer Research for Children, Memphis, TN. Friends may call one hour prior to the Mass at Church. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

RHODES, Donald Davis, 88, died April 5, 1997. Husband of Helen Marie Rhodes; father of Patricia Ellen Long of Tucson and Kenneth Allen Rhodes of California; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter also survive. Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his sons, Donald Eugene and Richard Dean Rhodes. Funeral Service, 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Rev. Mark Bickerton officiating. Further services and interment in Bethany, Illinois. Mr. Rhodes retired from Southern Pacific Railroad. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until service time, Tuesday at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. RIETZ, Roy R., SMSgt, USAF, Ret., 69, of Tucson, died Friday, April 4, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; daughter, Patricia K. Tucker; stepchildren, Sharon G. Campbell, Ronald D. Bunch; brothers, Walter Rietz, Vernon Rietz; sisters, Anita Ritchie, Lela Frith, Margaret Quitta; and nine grandchildren. Mr. Rietz retired in 1973 after 27 years in the U.S. Air Force, and retired in 1992 after 14 years with TUSD. He was a member of VFW Post #549, American Legion Post #36, and DAV Chapter 2. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary one half-hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 5325 E Pima St., Tucson, 85712.

ROBINSON, Lytle Webb, age 83, of Tucson, passed away from this life on Friday, April 4th, 1997. A free-lance writer and author of 'Edgar Cayce’s Story of the origin and Destiny of Man' and 'Is It True What They Say about Edgar Cayce?', Robinson fashioned his life around the critical study and advocacy of spiritual and political activist thought. Robinson was active in local political and community social issues since the early 1960's. He was an early member of the Tucson Press Club, Young Democrats, Arizona Consumer Council, Great Decisions and held Democratic Party precinct offices for many years. He founded the Tucson School of Writing and was past president of the southwestern Authors Society and Toastmasters of Ohio. Robinson was always an outspoken advocate of human and civil rights, economic co-operatives and inquiring spiritual thought. 'Edgar Cayce’s Story of the Origin and Destiny of Man', first published in 1972, has been published in French, German, Japanese and Braille translations, a classic in its topic, the book has been in print for the past 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara A. (Munson) and their four children; Carolyn J. Robinson, Stephen L. (Lyn Wilson) Robinson, Dr. David L. (Snake Jones) Robinson, Tanya M. Robinson; sister, Helen (Frank) Carpenter and brother, Walter (Gretchen) Robinson. Funeral Services will be held at SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 1335 S. Swan Rd. at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9th with Pastor Dr. Leland Scott officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to KUAT Public Television.

SCHONBERG, Theodore F., 75, of Tucson, passed away April 4, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Stephen, Michael, Richard; brother, Emil Schonberg. Services will be private. Arrangements by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

TAYLOR, Genevieve Dunn, born in Denver, CO on August 5, 1922, died in Tucson on Sunday, April 6, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, FitzGerald Taylor and daughter, Mary Ann Taylor. She is survived by her children, Genevieve Simpson, Thomas Taylor, Sr., Peter Taylor; grandchildren, John David Simpson, Bridget Taylor, Thomas Taylor Jr., Amy Simpson, Daniel Taylor; sister, Grace Lazorchick. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she and Fitz lived all over the world before settling in Tucson 30 years ago. She was an active member in S.A.G.S.P.C. Private family services were held. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Carondelet Hospice Services, P.O. Box 50026, Tucson, 85775 or the the American Heart Assoc., 5325 E. Pima, Tucson 85712.

TROUTWINE, James A., 84, of Tucson, died April 6, 1997. He is survived by a son, James W. (Jaan) Troutwine of Green Valley; daughters, Janice (Fuzz) Froschauer of Pulaski, Illinois and Beverly Difilippo of Aurora, Colorado; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Troutwine was a longtime resident of Tucson and was a member of Elks Lodge #385 for 50 years. Memorial Services will be held at Community of Hope Lutheran Church, 3141 West Ironwood Hill Dr., Tucson, AZ 85745 on Thursday, April 10, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude in 1990. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community of Hope Lutheran Church. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

WALBURN, Virginia Yvonne, 75, died April 6, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Walburn in 1993. Survived by her children, Mark Walburn, Chris (Roger) Hill and Jan Crone; grandchildren, Taylor, Stephanie, Kevin and Tracy; sister, Bonnie Sukow. Friends may call 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Private interment will be at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. WILSON, Sgt. Lawrence B., Jr. (TPD, Ret.), Tucson native, born October 2, 1914, went to rest April 4, 1997. Survived by his wife, Mary; sisters, Mary Harrington; Etta (Dick) Freeman; brothers, Jim (Helen), Bob (Ann); daughter, Bonnie (Tom) Rickel; son, Lawrence B. Wilson, III; stepdaughters, Susanne (Jack) Lasseter, Trudy (Joe) Richard; grandchildren, Debbie (Gary) Kennedy, Andrea (Alex) Burow, Andrew (Lesley) Lasseter, Nancy Lasseter, Kelly Richard, and Amy Richard. Sgt. Wilson had a career in law enforcement that spanned 35 years. He retired as a fingerprint expert and homicide detective in 1962 after 20 years of service. He then went to work for the Pima County Juvenile Court where he set up one of the first Juvenile Identification Bureaus in the country. He retired again in 1977. He was an active, life member of the International Association for Identification, Charter member of FOP Lodge #1, long time member of the Tucson Rod & Gun Club and member of Desert Skies United Methodist Church. A special thanks to Dr. Scott Weiss, TMC Hospice, and Catalina Vista Adult Care Home owners and employees for their compassionate care and support. A service of Love and Remembrance will be held Thursday, April 10, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 3015 N Oracle Road, interment following at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Desert Skies United Methodist Building Fund, 3255 N Houghton Rd., Tucson, AZ, 85749; or your favorite charity.

ALESI-MOODY, Elisa Iris, 'Sugar', died early morning at her home on April 7, 1997. She was 39 years old and suffered a long battle with illness. Her child like innocence and love of life helped to make her the person we all loved. She had strong convictions in family and friends. Her generous nature had no limits. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Survived by husband, Jerome; sons, Jaison and Steven Horbachefsky; step-children, David and Kelly Moody; and her parents; brothers; and sisters. Memorial Mass will be at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave., Saturday, April 12, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd & Swan.

HALVERSON, Rosalia, 89, went to be with our Lord, April 7, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. Halverson; also preceded in death by her loving sons-in-law, Hugh B. Horne and Allen 'Ace' C. Simpson; and great-granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Horne; also three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by son, Arthur J. 'Buzz' (Anne) Halverson of Hayden Lake, Idaho; daughters, Margaret L. Horne of Puyallup, Washington and Jane E. Simpson of Tucson; grandchildren, Mark (Kathy) Halverson, Kimberly Lancaster, Heidi (Scott) Wolfe, Lois (James) Tucci, Tom(Carmen) Horne, Kathy (Larry) Delfs, Michael (Dianne) Palmer, Raelynn (Peter) Gonzales; and 18 loving great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. Rosalia was born July 19, 1907 in Madison, Wisconsin where she attended school. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she and Arthur were married on July 10, 1928. In 1932, the Halverson’s moved to Tucson for Arthur’s health. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church where she served as president of the mother’s club of and a member of the Alter and Rosary society. She taught C.C.D. and was a church choir member. Along with her devotion to her family and church, she was employed by Levy’s of Tucson where she held the position of Credit Manager. She was past president of Credit Women Intl. And a member of the Tucson Personnel Club. She also was employed by Jacome’s Dept store, Korby’s Dept Manager and Myerson’s Department store. She retired in 1972. Rosie was a volunteer for St. Elizabeth of Hungary Clinic and she baked lots of goodies for her friends at Playa de Serrano and Most Holy Trinity Parish where she had been a member for 13 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1300 N. Greasewood, Monday, April 14, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 15, 1997 at 10:30 a.m.Entombment will be held at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Parkinson Association (APDA), 1650 E. Fort Lowell Rd. or St. Elizabeth of Hungary Clinic, 140 W. Speedway, or Ladies Club of Most Holy Trinity, 1300 N. Greasewood.

JOHNSTON, William 'Sam', 71, of Tucson, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne. He is survived by his daughter, Eileen R. (Steve Beke) Johnston, Colleen M. (Larry) Goltz; grandchildren, Tracy M. Kocisko, Gabriel E. Goltz all of Flagstaff, AZ, Jason E. (Lori) Goltz of Salt Lake City, UT. Mr. Johnston received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Augustana College and his Master’s in Education from the University of Illinois. A resident of Tucson since 1959, he was a longtime teacher at Wakefield Junior High. He was a member of Widowed to Widower. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Pastor Harry M Rohwer, Jr.. officiating. Friends may call at the Chapel one hour prior to the Funeral. Private Internment will be at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. KEATING, Edward L., passed away April 9, 1997 at La Posada Health Care, Green Valley. Born in Melrose, MA, February 12, 1909. Founder and first president Vermont Senior Golf Association. Founder and First President of Southern Arizona Senior Golf Association. Many years activity with the USGA Green Section. He was on the Executive Board of the Worlds Senior Golf Association. Survived by wife, Hazel Keating; and ten step-children; and many grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity in the name of Edward Keating. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 14th at the Green Valley Community Church, Esperanza and La Canada.

PATTEN, Patricia A., 54, died April 9, 1997. Survived by husband, Duane M. Patten; children, Teresa Anne Blount, Stephanie Janene Barback, Clifton, Clayton Patten and Cari Raish; mother, Elizabeth Kunsman; brother, Stanley Kunsman; sisters, Mary Rimer, Sharon Howard and Beth Garibaldi; 13 grandchildren.
