SOTO, Richard, 77, of Tucson, AZ, died May 3, 1997.Survived by daughters, Monica Soto, Veronica (Juan) Soto-Arvizu; grandson, Abel Soto; and granddaughter, Amber Arvizu. Longtime employee, retired from Cox Produce. Affiliated with the American Legion, Post #0100. Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 212 W. Medina. Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call, SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY for visitation times.

BERLIN, Grace Rose Salasnek 'Gitela', born May 29, 1915, Detroit, MI. Passed away May 4, 1997. Survived by daughter, Judith (Gary) Clifford of San Francisco; and son, Dr. Sanford Berlin of Tucson; along with beloved grandchildren, Dina and Tony Berin. Grace studied Opera for many years at the Detroit Conservatory of Music. She was married to Herman Berlin for over 50 years until his death in 1987. Grace was active in many religious and cultural activities along with being a successful businesswoman in Oak Park, MI, for many years. She will be missed by all who loved her for eternity. Graveside Services Thursday, May 8, 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Temple Emanu-El Section, with Rabbi Joseph Weizenbaum officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Tucson Medical Center Hospice program.

BERNARD, Isabel Lorraine 'Muffins' entered into rest with the Lord on April 27, 1997. She was born July 6, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Joseph Oliver and Bernadine (Mahoney) Trierweiler. She is survived by a daughter, Cobyanne Berglund, Phoenix, AZ; stepchildren, Mary Christine Morales, Frederick Chouteau Bernard, William Allen Bernard and Madalyn Yvonne Bernard, all of Tucson; and her brother, Robert Duane Trierweiler, Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by five half-sisters and one half-brother, Judy Trierweiler, Minneapolis, MN, Carol Chapman, Blaine, MN, Betty Doetkatt, Coon Rapids, MN, Diane Puffer, Sierra Vista, AZ, Karen Schutz, Trejo, WI and Gerald Trierweiler, Tacoma, WA. Muffins had many friends at Hughes Aircraft where she worked for 36 years before retiring. In her lifetime, she had many varied interests including flying, boating, shell collecting, camping, fishing and hunting. In her later years she created many beautiful afghans and quilts for family and friends. In her own words, upon learning of her terminal cancer, she said, 'I’ve had a good and full life, and know I’ll be going to an even better place!' At her request, there will be no memorial services. Remembrances can be made in her name to the TMC Hospice at 5301 E. Grant Rd.

BOKAMPER, Thomas R., born October 30, 1955 in Quincy, Illinois, died May 3, 1977 in Tucson. He is survived by his wife, Melody; his two daughters, Erika of Vancouver, B.C. and Katherine of Tucson. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bokamper; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Bokamper; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Primeau; his brothers, Kurt Bokamper; and sister, Diane Ball. He graduated from the University of Colorado and was a licenses CPA in Colorado and Texas. Memorial services will be Tuesday, 9:00 a.m., May 6, 1997 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, Outdoor Chapel, with Pastor Kent C. Luokins officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions to the American Cancer Society or Tanque Verde Lutheran Church Memorial Gardens would appreciated. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5115 E. BUNCH, Virginia A., 81, of Tucson, passed away on May 3, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband, Michael. Survived by daughters, Joyce Governale and Myrna Schultheis; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters of Ontario, Canada. Services are private. CONTRERAS, Victor H., 81, of Tucson, AZ, died April 29, 1997. Mr. Contreras was owner of Vic’s Barber Shop. Preceded in death by brothers, Daniel Contreras and Jose Contreras. Survived by sister, Dolores (Arthur) Trewitt; sister-in-law, Sarah C. Berumi; nieces, Sylvia (David) Garcia, Diane (Ralph) Garcia; nephew, Arthur Daniel (Delia) Trewitt. GORDON, James Hazen, much loved brother of Janet Gordon-Roach of Tucson and David G. Gordon of La Jolla, CA, passed away April 30, 1997 in Tucson. He is survived also by stepdaughters, Diana Wickizer and Peggy Gordon of Portland, OR and their sons, Jeffrey Wickizer and Alec Lynn. He was preceded in death by parents James H. Gordon, Sr. and Ruth Leedy Gordon. Born in Yuma, AZ on July 5, 1925, he attended schools in Yuma. After serving in the US Navy during WWII he was graduated from Tempe which he attended under the GI Bill. He became a Radio-Electronics Officer in the Merchant Marine from which he retired in the early 1980's. He will be greatly missed by many friends from his Navy years as well as neighbors and friends in Cottonwood, Yuma, and Tucson. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

HENDRICKS, Winona Constance, born September 1, 1951 in New York City, on May 2, 1997 in Tucson, AZ, God took Winona after a long illness back to a higher sphere. Winona was known as a famous, sensitive artist. Her love for God’s beauty made her make beautiful oil land and seascape paintings. Her many portraits were outstanding and sensitive. She also has shown her love for exquisite photography and beautiful artful gardening and ceramics. Winona went to the University of Mexico of Fine Arts and at Pima College she earned her Phi Beta Kappa. She spent many of her years in South Africa where she is known as one of the top ten best fine artists. Her work is sought by many all over the world and hangs in banks and government buildings in Africa, the USA, and Mexico, and in many private homes all over the world where they’ll cherish her sensitive excellent work. Many galleries in the U.S., Mexico City, and Africa will miss her gorgeous work. Her favorite love of painting clouds will remind us, when we look up at them and the sunsets, how she’ll be helping God to paint His skies. We will surely miss you and your outstanding sensitive talent, Winona. Rest in peace, sweetheart, you’re in our hearts. Surviving her, leaving us are Constance Pfeffer, her mother living in Tucson; sons, David Hendricks, living in Boston, MA; and Derek Hendricks living at home in Tucson. MARTIN, Magdolin A., 81, of Tucson, died May 2, 1997. Martin of Catalina; and sister-in-law, Alta Greer of New Mexico. Also survived by other numerous nieces and nephews. MAYNARD, Jeannie Sue, died at St. Mary’s Hospice Care Center in Tucson, AZ, May 3, 1997. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Larry E. Maynard. They were married in Grants, NM, on July 19, 1962. Jeannie was born to Jack B. Long and Grace Francis (Chandler) Long in Morrilton, AK on October 3, 1943. Jeannie’s surviving children are Deborah Renee Maynard of Phoenix and Denise Marie Maynard of Tucson, grandchildren, Amanda Piercey and Jessie Maynard of Tucson. Also surviving are her mother, Grace S. (Chandler) (Long) Heyl; sister, Patricia Anne Allen of Globe, AZ; brothers, Ira Liddell Long of Tucson; and Jack Blair Long, Jr. of Ft. Collins, CO; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack B. Long. Jeannie’s family moved to Glove, AZ when she was three years old. She attended Globe Public Schools, raised her children there, and continued living there until 1987 when she and Larry moved to Tucson. Jeannie’s greatest interests were her home, family and friends. She owned and operated a construction cleaning business. Her talents were apparent in arts, crafts, woodworking, and home decorating. She had an avid love for animals and the outdoors. Her favorite hobbies were fishing and cookouts. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 143 W. Magee Rd. (Magee and La Canada roads in Tucson), 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, with Pastor Patrick Cunningham officiating. Interment will be at the St. Mark’s Memorial Garden. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Holy Family Hospice Care Center in Jeannie’s name. Arrangements by BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

Survived by wife, Ofelia; daughter, Mary Esther Hillman; son, Rumaldo (Mary) Moreno; sisters, Carmela Preciado, Josefina Moreno; brother, Leonardo Moreno. Also survived by grandchildren, Andrew, Christina, Estevan Moreno, Germain Hillman. NESTO, Sylvia L., 90 of Tucson, died May 3, 1997. Sylvia was born on June 21, 1906 in Ruthland, VT. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. Roscoe Nesto. She is survived by cousins in Vermont. STOCKWEATHER, Lynn G., of Dallas, passed away April 25, 1997. A member of the Masonic Lodge. Survived by wife of 50 years, Alice Stockweather; son, Skip and wife, Carol Stockweather; daughter, Arlene and husband, Walter Emo; grandchildren, Tracy Stockweather and E.J. Stockweather; two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 1997 at Restland Memorial Park, in Dallas. Survived by wife, Beatriz Tom; children, John Tom Jr., Helen (Ed) Benbow, Lionel Tom (Marylou Nunez), Herbert Tom, David Tom (Sylvia Madrid); sister, Mrs. N. Lee; grandchildren, Odin, Celina, Jason, Gina, Giselle, and Carlos, all of Tucson. Mr. Tom owned and operated J & B Market for over 30 years. He loved his family, friends and fishing. COOPER, Colonel DeWitt Talmadge, Jr., 74, passed into eternal rest with his Lord on May 1, 1997. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Cooper; two daughters, Judy (Dick) Fulkerson of Tucson and Joyce (Gary) Hosaflook of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren, Richard Fulkerson, Kimberly (Mike) Kielinen, both of Tucson, Kristin (Keith) Calhoun, David Hosaflook, both of Fairfax, VA. Colonel Cooper spent 35 years in the United States Air Force, serving as a command pilot. A Memorial Service will take place at Sabino Road Baptist Church of Tucson on May 5, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Special thanks to the loving people at La Casita II and Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family requests all donations to be made to the building fund of Sabino Road Baptist Church in Tucson.
