HEADY, Eudora Adell, 82, of Tucson, formerly of Peekskill, NY, died Monday, October 20, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hickson; son, Hickson, Jr. and grandson, Hickson, III. She is survived by her grandchildren, Dwain (Carol) Heady, Dwight Heady, Alicia Heady; great-granddaughters, Marissa Heady, Mackenzie Heady and brothers, Norman Lent and Charles Lent. Mrs. Heady was Past Worthy Grand Matron of New York State Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 1997 at The Cascades, 201 N. Jessica, third floor. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Tucson Medical Center Hospice, Ronald McDonald House or to a charity of the givers choice. HUERTA, Julia V., 94, of Tucson, passed away October 19, 1997. Survived by daughters, Mercy Rivera, Alice (Alex) Rivera, Fresia Lopez, Josie (Manny) Herrera, Connie Fotinos, Dolores Carrillo, Armida (Gaylon) Hann, Sister M. Benedicta, Roena Huerta; son, Richard (Jac) Huerta; 38 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 1997 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel), 240 South Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, October 24, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica’s Church, 212 W. KARABIN, Donald Andrew, 60, died October 19, 1997. Was born in McKeesport, PA December 12, 1936. Husband of Kathleen; father of Timothy Karabin, Diana (Chip) Dunham and Terry Karabin, all of Tucson; one grandchild, Clayton J. Dunham also survives. He was a member of D.A.V Chapter #18, American Legion Post 36, Moose Lodge #2475, BPOE #2532 andLocal #428 Operating Engineers and taught the apprentice program. He was veteran of the US Air Force, Davis Monthan from 1954 to 1961 in the Sentry Dog Section. Memorial Service, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Frances H. Luera, 67, died October 17, 1997. Frances was a native Tucsonan and attend local schools. Frances was a Tucson Unified School District Employee at Vail Middle School and retired early to care for her husband. Frances was an active member of St. Ambrose Parish and choir. She was also a member of the St. Ambrose Charismatic Prayer Group. She was predeceased by her husband, Jesus ”Web” Luera; parents, Andres and Josephina Herreras; daughter, Mary Jo Paul and brothers-in-law, Nicholas and Peter Luera. She is survived by sons, Jesus Rene (Diane) Luera, Wolfforth, TX, Benjamin E. (Toni) Luera, Ron (Kelli) Luera, David (Theresa) Luera; daughters, Patricia A. Henely, Marty R. (Jim) Oakes of Chandler, AZ. Mrs. Luera’s beloved grandchildren are Jennifer, D.J., Sarah, Ronnie, Ashley, Alissa, Kaela, Christopher, Stephanie, Valerie, Caitlin, Joseph, Kacy, Kelly, Ryan, Karena, Michael, Chad, Cody and Casey. Also survived by brothers, Andy (Elvira) Herreras and Henry (Jessie) Herreras; sister-in-law, Ruth (Ramon) Benitez; brother-in-law, Adalberto (Lydia) Figueroa and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many close and loving friends that were faithful to the very end. Her greatest attribute was that she always gave of herself never expecting anything in return. She was dearly loved and will be held close in the hearts of her family and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel), from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered at St. Augustine’s Cathedral on Thursday, October 23, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. MARSHALL, Alex T., 93, of Tucson, died October 20, 1997. Preceded in death by wife of 45 years, Helen (1975). Survived by sons, Donald A. (Nikki) Marshall of Tucson, Dr. Gerald (Rebecca) Marshall of Phoenix; daughter, Lois M. LeKander of Roseville, CA; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Marshall had a love for railroads. He had worked for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in Ohio. He also worked as a barber, retail grocer, and beer and wine wholesaler. He established and was active in the Alex and Helen Marshall Memorial Trust Fund for scholarships to Salpointe High School. Salpointe awarded him an honorary diploma. Mr. Marshall was also a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Mass will be offered Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Hope Mausoleum, with Msgr. Robert Fuller of St. Francis Cabrini Church officiating. MEJIA, Sara, age 60, of Tucson, passed away October 21, 1997. Survived by husband, Mike J. Mejia; daughters, Vera (Ray) Archuleta, Patricia (Vincent) Marconato, Carolyn Mejia; sons, Miguel Mejia and Anthony Mejia; grandchildren, David Perez, Stephen Archuleta, Christina Archuleta, Joseph Marconato, Michael Marconato; loving mother and wife, will be missed by many friends and family. She touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. Eric M. Ogden, 11 years old, died October 17, 1997, Friday, in Tucson. Survived by loving parents, Randy and Sue Ogden of Tucson; brother, Corey Ogden of Tucson, AZ; grandparents, John and Lois Ogden, Josephine Gibson, all of Tucson; Uncle Jim and Aunt Carrie Ogden; Aunt Lynne and Uncle Phil Atkins; Uncle Paul and Aunt Re Gibson, Uncle Larry and Aunt Dawn Gibson; Uncle David and Aunt Robyn Gibson; and many cousins. Mom and Dad will greatly miss your ”kid hugs” and they love you very much. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him and by all those whose lives he touched. He made us all smile. Services for Eric will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at the Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. He loved racing on his blades, chasing after the puck, passing to his teammates, scoring goals and assisting his teammates in scoring goals. Eric especially loved the camaraderie he found in hockey. To Eric, his hockey companions were not only his teammates, they were his friends. This fund will financially assist boys and girls who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in this sport. We hope that whomever the beneficiary, he or she will love playing hockey and enjoy it as much as Eric did. Burial will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. SMITH, Annie Rogers, 85, passed away October 16, 1997. She was born March 10, 1912 in Snowflake, AZ to Wealthy Ballard Rogers and Reuben Davis Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Tenney Smith. She is survived by daughters, Suzanne S. Dye of Silver City, NM, Mary Melancon, and Vicki Davis; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She graduated from the U of A in 1934, taught Home Economics in Snowflake and Thatcher High Schools until she married in 1938. She lived in Morenci and Bisbee, AZ and Tacna and Toquepala, Peru until her husband’s death in 1965. After moving to Tucson she worked in the U of A evaluations office until her retirement in 1977. She was an accomplished seamstress. Playing bridge provided her with many happy hours. She held positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as an organist and accompanist for over 40 years. She deeply appreciated the people who helped and supported her during her years in Tucson. The viewing will be from 9:00-9:45 AM on Friday, October 24th in the El Dorado Ward Chapel at 6150 E. John R. ”Jack” Stilb, 74, died October 17, 1997. A Milwaukee, WI native. Jack attended Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin. During his army service, he attended the University of Illinois and Kenyon College. He first came to Tucson in 1942 as a U.S. serviceman and later returned to study at the University of Arizona and to make Tucson his home. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1946, with a bachelor’s of art degree in history and minors in German and political science. In his senior year, he began underwriting insurance for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as a means of paying for his education. Jack founded John R. Stilb C.L.U and Associates life insurance agency in 1953, when he became associate General Agent for National Life of Vermont. In 1958, he was appointed General Agent of Southern Arizona for National Life Insurance Company of Vermont. He was a life member as well as a consistent qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table and has earned the National Quality Award for more than 35 years. He founded the group that now calls itself the Greater Tucson Association of Life Underwriters.Active in community and business organizations, Jack was a member of the University of Arizona President’s Club and established the John R. Stilb C.L.U. Scholarship Fund to assist business majors with outstanding academic records. He also served on the advisory board of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona.He was a past president of the Southern Arizona Estate Planning Council and National Life of Vermont General Agents Association. He was also a past president of the Old Pueblo Club and charter member and past president of the Tucson Racquet Club. In addition he has served as chairman of the Up with People Advancement Campaign in Tucson, he is a former board member of Catalina Savings and Loan, Old Tucson Studios, the Pima County Division of the American Cancer Society, the Tucson Festival Society and the Mountain Oyster Club and Charter member of Los Charros del Desiertos. A member of the Tucson Country Club, he loved tennis. Other interests included travel and horses. He was a one time member and player of the Pima Country Polo club. Jack’s inherent love was his family and ranch. He and his Tucson native wife, Elaine raised a family of seven. He is survived by Elaine; and six of their seven children, Michael A. Stilb (Nancy), grandchildren, Jeremy and Brittany (Tucson); Heidi S. Lewis, grandchild, Cody (Laguna Niguel, CA); Lisa S. Marrocco (Peter), grandchild, Peter (Cincinnati, OH); Christina F. Stilb (Tucson); Heather S. Fleck (Kenneth), grandchildren, Mackenzie and Elaina ”Khaki” (Denver, CO); Timothy J. Stilb (Ana), grandchildren, Victoria ”Tori” and John Michael (Tucson): preceded in death by son, Kevin P. Stilb; survived by his sister, Natalie Nuernberg (Green Valley, AZ). The family of Jack would like to thank those of you who knew Jack for your continued love, thoughts and support, and ask that you please join them in celebrating his life on Saturday, October 25, 1997, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Stilb family ranch located at the end of Bear Canyon Road. WEIMER, Harvey Edward, 77, of Tucson, AZ, died October 18, 1997 at La Canada Care Center. Beloved husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth and children, Jane (Byron) Peterson, Susan Weimer, Rebecca Janssen, Edward (Patti) and Mary (Gianni) Matteucci. Also surviving are grandchildren, Douglas, Elizabeth, David and Rebecca Peterson, Charles Janssen, Donna and Aaron Weimer, Emilia, Livia and Julia Matteucci and great-granddaughter, Shannah Peterson; brother, Robert E. Weimer. Mr. Weimer was born in Union City, Indiana on September 15, 1920 to Charles and Ruby Weimer. He attended Indiana University and graduated from Miami University in Ohio. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. Mr. Weimer had an extensive career in marketing having worked with Crosley, Whirlpool Corp., J.C. Penney and then was in business for himself before retiring to Tucson in 1985. In Tucson he was a member of St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church and was past treasurer of La Cholla Home Owners Association. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. @Magee from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 1997. Funeral Services will be held at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. on Saturday, October 25, 1997 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Peter G. Cheney officiating. BOSMA, Jewell Watson, 81, passed away peacefully on October 19, 1997. She was born August 17, 1916 in Greensboro, Texas the youngest of nine children to Richard and Edna Bradshaw. She married Thomas Grady Watson December 23, 1934 in Houston, Texas. He passed away November 28, 1984. She married Roland Bosma June 19, 1986. He passed away August 1, 1987. She was also preceded in death by stepdaughter, Ida Neal Phares. She is survived by daughters, Barbara (George) Winkler of Brush, Colorado and Donna (Richard) Dobias of Tucson, Arizona; stepsons, William ”Bill” (Dorothy) Watson of Texas City, Texas, Thomas Grady Watson, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona and Boyd (Madeline) Bosma of Tucson; stepdaughters, Maggie Lee Parker of Conroe, Texas and Lorna (Don) Kraemer of Tucson; sister, Vora Payne of Houston, Texas; and 37 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Jewell’s warm smile and loving ways will be greatly missed by family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 23, 1997, 10:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8799 N.Northern, Tucson, Arizona 85704. BRANHAM, Martha Jones, 78, homemaker and resident of Tucson for 23 years, died Sunday, October 19, 1997 at her home. Born in Memphis, TN, she was the widow of Robert E. Branham. Survivors include: two daughters, Eileen Mobley of Riverside, CA and Susan Beach of Oracle, AZ; two sisters, Myrtis Williamson of Jackson, TN and Miriam Nadel of New York City; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. CARTER, Blanch H., 67, of Tucson, died October 15, 1997. In loving memory of our mother and wonderful friend whom will be greatly missed and who will always remain close to our hearts. She has joined our father, Gerald L. Carter in eternal rest in God’s care. She is survived by her children, Dusty McGraw, Jody Carter, Marty Retrum and James Carter; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother also survive. GRIFFITH, John L., 62, passed away October 19, 1997. Survived by wife, Christina D. ”Tina” Griffith; sons, Dennis Sean Griffith of Hollister, CA, Andrew Parrish Griffith of San Jose, CA, John Keith Griffith of Each China, MI and Richard Pope Griffith of Jacksonville, FL; eight grandchildren; sisters, Madeline Webb of Rockledge, FL, Mary Wilkinson of Aptos, CA, Edna DeWitt of Yuba City, CA: brothers, Bill Griffith of San Diego, CA, Robert Griffith of Silsbee, TX and James D. Griffith of Boonville, MO; and mother-in-law, Mary C. Dabney of Green Valley, AZ. A Memorial Service was held Monday, October 20, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Chapel with Rev. Richard Casteel officiating. There will also be a Memorial Service at a later date at the First Baptist Church in Pinetop, AZ.
