CUMBERLEDGE, Florence Costey, died March 2, 1998. ”Buzzie”, as she was fondly known by family and friends, was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Merrill in 1945; her second husband Robert Cumberledge in 1958 and nephew, David Kendall in 1984. She is survived by her sisters, Grace Stall of Sacramento and Margie (Charles) Hollinger of Tucson; her stepson, Bill (Barbara) Cumberledge of Scottsdale; niece, Patricia Kendall of Sacramento; nephew, Kenny (Beverly) Kendall of Tucson; niece, Jean Kendall of Tucson; grandnephew, Mark (Mary) Kendall of Tucson and grandniece, Amy Kendall of Tucson. Buzzie was born in Bisbee, Arizona in 1918 and graduated from Bisbee High School and the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She taught elementary school for many years in Bisbee, Warren and Duncan, Arizona. Buzzie moved to California during World War II. When asked about those years, she always smiled and said her most interesting job during that time was working in the photography lab at Warner Brothers Studio. Her stories about the legendary feud between Bette Davis and Jack Warner never failed to bring laughter to the most unhappy person. Upon her return to Arizona, she began work at Sears Roebuck and Company. Buzzie was one of the first women executives for Sears in the Western Region and retired from the company after 32 years of service. She enjoyed volunteering at Tucson Medical Center and gave thousands of hours in the surgical services lobby. No one could ever have asked for a more supportive friend and relative. She ended most conversations or visits with the most precious words a person can say: ”I love you.” She will be sorely missed. Mark, Mary, and Amy are particularly grateful to and wish to sincerely thank: Darlene and the entire staff at the Cascades who worked so diligently to make Buzzie comfortable and happy and Carolyn, from Carondelet Hospice Services, who gave such wise counsel and support. Amy is exceptionally thankful for the outstanding care and compassion shown by her physician, whose gentle, loving manner and genuine caring helped Buzzie find peace during her final illness. At Buzzie's request, there will be no services. Buzzie believed that no monetary donation could ever be as welcome as the gift of time. Please consider volunteering at Casa de los Ninos or the Salvation Army, two of her favorite charities; taking the time to run errands for someone who can't or simply spending time with someone who is lonely. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

Collis J. Glaspy Jr. was a longtime Tucson resident. Mostly a potter and partly a sculptor by trade. We who loved him would also call him a teacher, a loving friend, a good man and a loving father. He was always artistic, making jewelry and clothing in his youth and then discovering a spiritual connection with pottery that would not let him go. His raku pottery sold all over the country and his collectors will miss his work. He left us all too soon, before he did his greatest artwork and before he finished his job of raising children into full adulthood. Happily, we can say that he did all of the dancing, laughing, hugging, fishing, loving and working that one man can squeeze into one shortened life. For that, we are all grateful. We all enjoyed his life right along with him. He had a big laugh that matched the size of his heart. He would be the first to admit that he wasn't perfect, but he was always working on trying to be better and better. His daughter, Damaryce and her mom, Marta Real, Collis Sr, Aunt Norvella, and Donald, Doriean, Dwight, Robert and Cynthia, well, we all wish that he had been given just a little more time with us. Join us in saying good-bye. We meet on Sunday, March 8 at St. Francis in the Foothills at 12:30 p.m.
