GRIFFITH, Andrew Carnegie, 87, died Friday, May 22, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Tucson; one son, Andrew J. Griffith of Tucson; one nephew, Martin Griffith of Tucson. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd (at Speedway) from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Adair Dodge Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 1998 at Saints Peter and Paul Church, at the corner of Campbell and Lee Streets. HIDALGO, Emilio Rene, born Monday, May 4, 1998, went to be with the angels Saturday, May 23, 1998. Survived by parents, Crystal and Gabriel and family. JIANG, Danian, 48, of Tucson, died on May 24, 1998 at UMC. Mr. Jiang and his family came to Tucson from Alaska nine years ago. He is survived by his wife, Tuoya Gegen and a daughter. Services will be private. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES.

McCAN, Vernon L., 86, passed away May 22, 1998 in Tucson. Born July 12, 1911 in Franklin Township, Iowa. Mr. McCan is survived by his wife of 17 years, Anne; sons, Calvin D. McCan and Bernard McCan; daughter, Katherine Hihn; and other friends and family. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 1998 at Faith Tabernacle, 5011 E Ft. Lowell. PELZ, Zachary Tyson, 19, of Tucson, died Friday, May 22, 1998. ANDRES, Margaret K., age 85, a resident of Arizona since 1916 and a resident of Tucson since 1935, passed away May 22, 1998. Born October 25, 1912 in Texas. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Mrs. Andres retired as a teacher at C.E. Rose Elementary School. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was treasurer of the Arizona Teachers Association. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30th, 1998 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Rev. Dr. Martin Abraham officiating. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

BUGLEWICZ, Christopher M. aka 'Chris Mattews' died suddenly at his home on Saturday, May 24, 1998. Chris was 38 years old. Chris was a popular entertainer who had played piano and sang in numerous clubs and resorts in the Tucson area.Chris began his career with the Tucson Boys Chorus. He toured nationally before settling in Tucson. In addition to his singing career, Chris was active in the hotel and entertainment industry, serving as food and beverage and marketing manager for Rio Rico Resort and the Breckenridge Resort in Lake of the Ozarks, MO. He also owned and operated his own talent and booking agency. Chris gave freely of his gift for entertaining and was a frequent volunteer musician in hospitals, nursing homes and at charity functions. Chris is survived by his mother, Marie; his brothers, Joseph, Gene, Richard and Jim; his stepsons, Brett and Sean; numerous family friends and fans who will miss him greatly. A memorial will be held Friday, May 29, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at the Tucson Meadows Trailer Park Club House, 2121 S. Pantano Rd.

BURGESS, Ada Cerny, age 91, of Tucson, Arizona, died Sunday, May 24, 1998. She is survived by daughters, Diane Kautenburger and Janice Sticht; granddaughters, Jacque Thames, Susan Berle, Pam O'Neill, Staci Westcott, Stefanie and Lindsay Sticht; seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was an Arizona native born in Mesa, AZ. and moved to Tucson in 1933. Ada was a member of Tucson Women's Club, Tucson Symphony Women's Club, Tucson Little Theater. Private services have been held. CASSIDY, Marie H., age 84, of Tucson, passed away May 26, 1998. Marie was a devoted wife and loving mother who selflessly cared for her husband and son. Her loving, warm and generous hand also reaches out and touches the rest of the family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cassidy Sr. She is survived by one son, William Cassidy Jr.; sisters-in-law, Rita Connolly and Lenna Harrison; nephews, Paul Harrison, William Harrison, James Connolly, Hugh Connolly, Tim Connolly, Richard Connolly; nieces, Carol Harrison, Judy Harrison and Mary Sue Connolly. DAY, Kelly B. Jr., 71, died May 23, 1998. Husband of Jean H. Day; father of Kelly B. Day III of Tucson, Patricia A. Kroge of Broomfield, CO. and Nancy D. Sheldon of Denver, CO; five grandchildren also survive. Mr. Day worked as an electrical engineer for IBM for 29 years before retiring in 1983. DEBSKI, Walter V., 73, of Tucson, died May 26, 1998. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, May 28, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in the veterans section of Holy Hope Cemetery with the DAV Honor Guard and Chaplain Nathaniel Chism officiating. Visitation Wednesday, May 27, 1998 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., (888-1111).

FARHAT, Betty Jane, 72, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 1998. She was born in Rose City, MI. Retired executive payroll officer for Horizon Corporation. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Moses Farhat; sister June Spitzer; and children, Ted (Paula) Farhat, Janie (Rod) Hall, Carol (Mark) Speasl; grandchildren, Tanya, Michael, Tanous, Demetria Farhat, Rene and Rick Hall; Timothy and Rachel Speasl, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass in celebration of her life will be held Thursday, May 28, at 5:00 pm at St. Francis De Sales Church, 1375 South Camino Seco. In lieu of flowers family requests a donation to Casa de Los Ninos Crisis Nursery or other favorite charity.

KEARNEY, Jack, 64, of Tucson, died May 25, 1998. Survived by wife, Barbara; daughter, Lisa (Rob) Howard of Tucson; son, John (Tambra) Kearney of Dana Point, CA; grandson, Zachary Howard; mother, Dorothy Kearney of Tucson; brother, Michael (Patty) Kearney of MT; sisters, Patricia Bush of Tucson and Sharon (Cecil) Havins of Sierra Vista. Visitation will be Friday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. MANRIQUEZ, Jesus V., of Mammoth, AZ, died May 24, 1998. Survived by wife, Lina; mother-in-law, Ramona Medrano of Mammoth; children, Mercedes (Randy) Schmidt of Dewey, AZ, Gabriel Manriquez of Tucson, Eleazar Manriquez of Tucson and Donaldo (Diana) Manriquez of Tucson; sister, Amalia Verdugo of Hayden, AZ; grandchildren, Rosalia, Ramon, Gabriel, Kassandra and Esteban. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Manriquez had been employed by Clark Trucking Co. for 22 years. Mass will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mammoth with Rev. Gilbert Padilla officiating. Rosary recited on Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will be at the Mammoth Cemetery. Arrangements by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Nellie Martinez, 85, of Tucson, passed away May 23, 1998. Survived by husband, Jesus P. Martinez; daughter, Rosie (Armando T.) Estrada; son, Tony (Patricia) Martinez; sisters, Sally Muneton, Sara Tellez, Martha Sanchez; brothers, Andres Lopez, Alfredo Lopez, Aldolfo Lopez and Johnny Nunez. Also survived by six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave.with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. MARY JOYCE 'PEGGY' MYRICK, born July 1, 1931, in Deer River, MN; died May 20, 1998 in Tijuana, Mexico, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Peggy graduated with highest honors from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Tucson in 1953, and received her B.S. in Health Sciences from St. Francis College, Joliet, IL. She worked for the American Red Cross for nine years and retired in 1985. Peggy was a vibrant and passionate woman who loved her family and friends, opera and the arts, gourmet cooking, and the beauty of the mountains. Her life, actions, and words reflected her strong belief in civic responsibility and humanity toward others. She would always extend herself to those in need and was a loving wife and mother, and a dedicated grandmother. Peggy will be dearly missed by her family and the special friends whose lives she touched. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Cliff; son, Cliff 'Kip' (Kathy) Myrick; daughters, Korby and Kara Myrick, and Dian McElvaine; grandchildren, Casey and Robin Myrick, Marlana and Janean McElvaine; brother, Jack (June) Johnson; three nephews; and eight nieces. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 1998, at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3809 E Third St, Tucson, AZ 85716. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Peggy's name to St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, for later donation to a special cause which she supported.

William H. Rumley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, died peacefully in the early morning hours of May 23, 1998 at the family home in Tucson, AZ. Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ella Gloria Narcho Rumley; their son, Darrell W. Rumley (Anna) of Sells, AZ. Predeceased by brother-in-law and sister, Robert and Virginia 'Jenny' Wiles (PHX). Surviving sisters: Annette Frye of Fredricksberg, VA, Bernice 'Tot' Wiles (John) of Bristol, TN and Doris Lange of Petaluma, CA; grandsons, Ryan Salabiye Rumley of Tempe, AZ, Damian R. Majuta of Tucson, AZ and Joaquin M. Martinez (Tonya) of Houston, TX and the many nieces and nephews, living on the Tohono O'Odham Nation, AZ and TN. Bill served his family and his country proudly as a combat soldier in the 21st Infantry of the U.S. Army, campaigning in the South and Central Pacific, originally stationed at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, HI during the attack on Pearl Harbor. His dedication then continued as an aviation mechanic/supervisor at DMAFB, retiring in 1975 after 35 years of federal service. Throughout his life, Bill was an avid sports fan. From his days as a bowling ally pin-sitter, to playing baseball for the U.S. Army, both as a catcher and first baseman, his love of sports grew. Although baseball was his first love, football, softball, basketball, golf, boxing, bowling and auto racing were always on television. He was very happy to see Major League Baseball find it's way to AZ. He loved the 'Cubbies', Yankees and of course, our little league teams. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 1998 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Memorial services beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 1998. All services to be held at the South Lawn facility (5401 S. Park Avenue). To Heaven above the family says 'We all love you and we miss you very much.'

SCOTT, Herman R., a resident of Tucson and retired pharmacist, died Monday, May 25, 1998. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Doris; survived by son, David of Phoenix; daughter, Marjorie (Glenn) Perry of Tucson; granddaughter, Debbie Perry of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Ben R. of FL. SOTELO, Joe Mazaira, 83, of Tucson, a WWII Veteran, died Memorial Day, May 25, 1998. He is survived by Hilda, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Mary (Santiago) Sotelo De Lebron, Cecilia Laguna, Patricia Ybarra, Claudia (Ruben) Ortiz and Martha Genduso; brothers, Henry (Socorro) and Manuel (Hortencia) Sotelo. Joe and Hilda had been together since they were 13 and 14 years old. Grandpa will be missed by his seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and all his nephews and nieces. Joe retired from Pioneer Paint Co. and from the Pima County Security Squad. He was a Past Grand Knight and a Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus and served with distinction and energy during his terms of office. He was also a member of the American Legion (Post 36) for many years. Joe brought laughter and joy and earned respect from everyone. He was a loving husband and a wonderful daddy to his girls. Joe will be missed by many family members and friends, but he will be watching over and caring for us by his loving spirit. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Burial in Holy Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

STEPHENS, Marjorie A. (Jewell), 76, joined her husband, Edward on May 23, 1998. She is survived by daughters, Karen Nelson and Kathy (Lee) Barnhart; 'son', Jerry Nelson; grandchildren, Bryan, Chris, Chelsey and April; brothers, Clifford, Wes and Walt (Joanne) Jewell; sister, Winnie (Joe) Mocyk. Special care givers, Laurie Cole and family and her constant companion, 'Bitsy'. She will be deeply missed by the many whose life she touched. Friends may call 10:00 a.m. until service time 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 1998 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.
