When World War II erupted, Ed joined the U.S. Navy and served his country proudly on the U.S.S. CORE. He saw action in the Pacific and at the end of the war, had reached the rank of First Class Petty Officer. He returned home to his wife and three children in Hutchinson, Kansas. His last two boys were born here. He worked for Haskell Linen Supply Company for 19 years before retiring. He taught his children the value of hard work and perseverance. He was widowed in 1965.
