Robert Weine, 41, of Tucson, died July 6, 1998. Survived by beloved wife, Emilee; beloved children, Erienne, Matthew and Mozelle; mother, Rheba Weine of NY; brother, Joel Weine of NY; sister, Bonnie Pollack of NJ. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd.

ALLEN, Maxwell J., age 72, of Tucson, Arizona, died July 6, 1998. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

BALK, Sheldon, 69, died July 8, 1998 in Bremerton, WA. He was born in Newark, NJ, raised in Monticello, NY. Sheldon moved to Arizona in 1944 and graduated from Phoenix Union High School. He received his B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Arizona State University in 1954. While at ASU, he was president of his fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi. He later completed postgraduate courses in Electrical Engineering at University of Arizona, where he met his wife of 43 years, Melvina Lee Balk of Safford, Arizona and later accomplished graduate work in Physical Oceanography from Florida Institute of Technology. His professional accomplishments include providing technical and management leadership with Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. for use in surveillance systems, anti-radiation sensors for missiles and drones, radar and undersea warfare to name a few. Before Lockheed, he was manager of corporate development with Spectortherm Corp., marketing infrared imaging systems. Sheldon had also worked for Litton Industries as program manager for combat data systems in areas of electromagnetic compatibility and communications security. Sheldon also served as Regional Governor for Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and Chairman of Adult Education at Congregation Beth David and was extremely active in the local Jewish Community. He is survived by his wife, Melvina Lee; his children, David, Juanita and Alisa; niece, Sarah Kay and grandchildren, Alex, Meghan, Jessica and Stephanie. Funeral Services Friday, 2:30 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with Rabbi Arthur R. Oleisky officiating. Interment Congregation Anshei Israel section of Evergreen Cemetery. BROOKS, Cora Edna Estelle, 95, died July 7, 1998. Preceded in death by husband James Lonnie Brooks; two sons, Weldon and Quitman Brooks and grandson, Capt. George Henry Tousley III. Survived by son, Olin D. Brooks; daughters, Mildred Tousley, Hilda Cherney and Jaini Lewers; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brooks was an Amphitheater School Cafeteria worker for 35 years. Funeral Service 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998 at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, with Pastor Brian Tousley and Rev. BULLOCK, Deborah Jean Crumpler, born March 15, 1960, passed away July 8, 1998. In cherished and loving memory of Deborah Crumpler Bullock. Debbie was born in Denver, Colorado and became a resident of California at age one. She was a graduate of Cordova High school and later attended college at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona, her chosen home. Debbie was an avid reader and a garden enthusiast. During the last 10 weeks of her life, she retired from work and began cultivating a small garden with her daughter, Megan. Debbie's sensitivity to people and nature will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her place on this earth will not fade but will endure forever in the hearts and minds of those who loved and cherished this wonderful person. Debbie leaves behind a daughter, Megan Bullock, Tucson, Arizona; father and mother, John and Pearl Crumpler, Roseville, California; sisters, Cheryl Crumpler, Davis, California and Patricia Crumpler, Rancho Cordova, California; grandmother, Lila Crumpler, Chico, California; soulmate, Dan Gresham, Tucson, Arizona; nieces, Hali and Layla Crumpler-Hanson, Davis, California and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends throughout the country. BURNS, Betty J., 60, of Tucson, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 8, 1998. Betty is survived by her children, Beverly, Ty, and Rodney; 14 grandchildren/great-grandchildren. Graveside Services, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998 at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Avenue with visitation for family and friends two hours prior to service at South Lawn Mortuary. COATSWORTH, John E., 83, a 38-year resident of Tucson, died July 8, 1998 of malignant brain tumor. He was born to Will and Maude Coatsworth in their Spencer, SD, farmhouse. He took over the family farm and married Hazel Irene Schoepf in 1942. From childhood, John was active in the Spencer Christian Church. His strong singing voice earned him state and national recognition. In 1955, he entered the ministry at the fist Christian Church in Sloan, IA, while also serving as minister for four years at the Holly Springs (IA) Christian Church. In 1960 he became pastor of and was ordained at Park Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tucson. His years of strong leadership helped the church grow and prosper. He was prominent in state and regional church board activity, especially in sponsoring inter-denominational cooperation. Following his retirement from the fulltime ministry in 1982, he served for three years as interim minister at Marana Christian Church. Because of the Optimist Club's commitment to serving youth, John was a leading member of the Pueblo Optimist Club for 31 years, serving in virtually every office. He especially enjoyed writing the newsletters and serving as program chair. He was also instrumental in starting several new Optimist clubs. His strong interest in young people led him to many years of active service on the South Branch and Metropolitan YMCA Boards. He was active in numerous PTA organizations including service as president of the Pueblo High school PTA. He was also active in numerous volunteer committees for Tucson Unified School District and also served on one of five committees that studied the need for Pima Community College. Survived by Hazel Coatsworth, his wife of 56 years; children, Terry (Stewart) Bagwell, Bill (Barbara) Coatsworth, Cindy (Eddie) Lewis of Tucson, David (Cheryl) Coatsworth of Chandler, AZ, Melanie (Al) Alexander of Spokane, WA, and Wendy (Philip) Young of San Diego, CA; 18 grandchildren and sister, Gay Schoepf of Sioux, Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Milo Coatsworth. He will be widely remembered as 'The Hug Card Man, ' giving away 14, 000 hug cards over the past several years. The family extends deep and sincere appreciation to Sonoran Desert Homes for their loving care and attention to John during his final illness. Memorial Service, Monday, 10:30 a.m. at Park Avenue Christian Church, 4635 S. Park Ave. Graveside Service Monday, 2:00 p.m. Evergreen Cemetery. DUPNIK, Michael, 53, of Tucson, passed away July 8, 1998. Preceded in death by brother, Edward Dupnik; parents, Edward and Constance Dupnik. Survived by wife, Clara Dupnik; daughter, Monica Dupnik Arreola (Ricardo); brothers, Gilbert (Beverly), Clarence (Susie), Robert (Joan) and John Dupnik (Faith). Lois Elaine Jenkins, age 63, passed away 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 1998 after a long struggle withcancer. She is survived by husband, Jimmy Jenkins; two daughters, Jeannie (Terry) of Flagstaff, Kathy (Mike) of Tucson; one son, Mike (Mona) of Tucson; one sister, Pearline Zeigler of Tucson; five granddaughters, Amanda, Kristy, Megan, Corey Lynne and Brittany. Elaine was a member of First United Methodist Church and had retired from St. Joseph's Hospital after 28 years of service as a Neurodiagnostic Technician. She was a former member of Tucson Crowns Motorcycle Club. She was much loved and will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 11, 1998 at 4:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 655 N. Craycroft (at 5th St.). Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES.

KERLEY, Larry K., 39, of Tucson, died July 6, 1998. An engineer with the Raytheon Corporation. Husband of Susan; father of Brian R. and Joel D. Kerley all of Tucson; son of Martha and William Scott of Ellington, Missouri; brother of Wayne Kerley of Edwardsville, Illinois, John and June Kerley both of Ellington, Missouri. Visitation Saturday, July 11 from 10:00 a.m. until noon at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., (888-1111).

KOHOUT, J. Keith, 38, died July 8, 1998, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde H. Kohout. Keith is survived by his mother, Ruth Ann (Dr. Philip) Dew; brothers, Clark (Vicki) and Robert (K. C. Morris); sister, Cheryl (Terri Nangeroni); aunt, Kathy (Michael) Fletcher; nieces, Colleen and Alexandra; nephews, Paul and Gregory; great-nephew, Weston; and many cousins and dear friends. Visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where Funeral Services will take place Saturday, July 11 at 12:00 noon. McLENNAN, Clarence N. 'Ted', 81, a 42 year resident of San Manuel, died at home on Wednesday, July 8, 1998. He was born June 13, 1917 in Glendale, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita; son, Don (Kathleen) of Cave Junction, Oregon; daughters, Sandy (Don) Payne of San Manuel and Linda (Jim) Bingham of Oracle; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean (Clyde) Mitchell of Camp Verde, Arizona and nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II and a retiree of Magma Copper Company. A Memorial Service will be held at San Manuel Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TMC Hospice, P.O. Box 42195, Tucson, AZ 85711 or the charity of your choice.

NIETO, Federico 'Fred' 97, died July 9, 1998. Survived by his children, Natalia Nieto (Laurence) Slana, Jim (Mary Alice) Nieto; grandchildren, Kris Powell, Michael Leeney, Pamela McFadyen and Fredrick Leeney, Kathy Nieto, (Kathy Lyle), James Frederick (Sandi) Nieto, Nicholas (Dr. Rhonda) Nieto and Alicia Nieto. Scripture Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Annie Marie Picchioni, 37, passed away July 8, 1998 after a valiant fight against leukemia. Annie was born January 6, 1961 in Tucson, AZ to Albert L. and Theresa Picchioni. She received degrees in Fashion Merchandising and Elementary Education from the University of Arizona and taught at Lyons, Reynolds, Erickson and for the last seven years, at Soleng Tom Elementary School. She continually developed new and changing lesson plans, the type of instruction that would reflect the changing needs of young students of the 1990's who needed to adapt to demanding and often troubling times. At the time of her most recent illness, she had composed a number of lesson plans for the upcoming Fall 1998 semester when she had hoped to be in classroom. Her lesson plans were focused on hands-on experiences to place developing young minds into problem solving and critical thinking situations.Students, faculty, staff and parents of Soleng Tom Elementary School embraced Annie before, during, and now after her most difficult times. She was a role model to everyone, to her students, colleagues, friends and especially to her sister and brother, who express regret that they did not experience, firsthand, the magic of her teaching, and positive stewardship over the young generation, driven by her teaching, humanitarian, and professional qualities. Annie will be remembered as most selfless person, one who 'gave-it-up' for her family, students, co-workers and friends. Everyone will be forever grateful and praise God that Annie's shortened life was a most wondrous life, a very accomplished life to her, and to many, many others, young and old. She was always 'on top of the world' and this really picked everybody up. She truly made the world a better place to live. Annie is survived by her parents; her sister, Mary Jane; brothers, Joe (Kim), Geno (Darlene), nephew, Garret and niece, Whitney. Visitation will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Friday, July 10, 1998 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Rd., (Swan & Sunrise area), Saturday, July 11 at 8:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations, may be made to the 'TUSD Annie Picchioni Memorial Fund' to be used to benefit students at Soleng Tom Elementary School for enrichment activities and excellence in teaching. BRECI, Gerald P., 51, of Tucson, passed away July 8, 1998. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska and has resided in Arizona for most of his adult life. He will be remembered for his humor, his strength, and his love for his family and friends. Jerry's courage was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was loved by many and will always be remembered. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Sarah and Gabrielle; son, Chris and daughter-in-law, Christy; grandchildren, Jessica and Justin; parents, Louis and Grace; brother, Vince; sisters, Denise and Debbie; and grandmother, Rosa. Visitation will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. Saturday, July 11, 1998 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

BARRINGTON 'BARRY' L. LONG - President and owner of Roy H. Long Realty Company from 1952-1980, Barry Long passed away July 8, 1998. Born May 12, 1922 at the Stork's Nest in Tucson, he was the son of Roy H. and Meta L. Long. One of the first students to attend the new Sam Hughes Elementary School, he graduated from Tucson High School and attended the University of Arizona studying Civil Engineering for three years where he was member of the SAE Fraternity and Theta Tau, Tau Beta Pi and Bobcats honoraries. He joined the U.S. Army during WWII, was commissioned as 2nd Lt. at Ft. Belvoir, VA and married Marjorie Louise Perrin in 1944 before going overseas. She was his life long love, to whom he was married for 54 years. While attached to the 3rd Army, he served in Germany and France, built Bailey bridges so the Allied Forces could enter Germany, was involved in liberation of German concentration camps and was awarded the Bronze Star with a V for Valor for bravery in battle. After the war he graduated with honors from the U of A and built homes in Tucson with his brother Bob. Then Barry and Marjorie moved to Houston, TX where he worked as a field engineer. He was recalled to the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. After the Korean War he returned to Tucson, becoming the President and owner of Roy H. Long Realty after Roy H. Long's retirement in 1952. As its President, he built the company from a small, one office company with five salespeople into a large, nine office company with 250 salespeople prior to his retirement in 1980. He was a success because he was supportive of his salespeople, was generous and treated them the way he would want to be treated. He was a community leader, Past President of the Catalina Rotary Club, Deacon, Elder and Trustee of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was active with the Tucson Board of Realtors and Boy Scouts of Tucson. After his retirement from the real estate business he and Marjorie founded and built Long's Apple Orchard near Dragoon, Arizona and were the owners of Long's Peak Restaurant at Picacho Peak. He and Marjorie re-entered the real estate business in the mid-1990's becoming Million Dollar Producers. He was a patriotic American pilot hunter and fisherman who taught his sons his love of hunting and fishing. The Long family is as exceptionally close-knit family who work, play and laugh together. Barry is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his loving sons and best friends, Randolph (Carol) of Indianapolis, IN, Russell (Christine), Steven and Roy; granddaughters, Jennifer and Emily Long; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Eileen Siek of Glendale, Arizona; sister-in-law, Gwen Perrin of Tucson and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Bob. Services will be conducted Monday, July 13, 1998, 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 400 E.University Blvd. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to Casa de los Ninos or charity of one's choice. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

DR. JACK LEE MARTENEY, D.D.S. 64, better known to some as 'Doc' passed away early Thursday July 9, 1998, at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Paula; his daughter Judy Hornecker and her husband David; his son Jacque (Marty) and his wife Crystal, and his son Yancy and his wife Katie. He was also adored by his four beautiful grandchildren Jacquetta, Desiree, Lauren and Mason. Jack lived life to the fullest. He had retired from his orthodontic practice and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and being with friends and family. He dedicated much of his time to the Shrine for the benefit of crippled and burned children. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. A memorial service and celebration of Jack's life will be held on Sunday, July 12 beginning at 2:00 pm and will end at 5:00 pm at the Sabbar Temple, 450 South Tucson Boulevard in Tucson. Jack had requested in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Shriner's Hospital for children, P.O. Box 6227, Lincoln, Nebraska 68506-0227.

McFADYEN, Louis Celestine, 89, of Tucson, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Carlos) Lucas, Richard (Susan) McFadyen, Debra (Edward) Sanchez, Louis (Sara) McFadyen; Robert McFadyen; sister, Mary Margaret Frye; brother, Craig McFadyen; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. McFadyen received his Pharmacist's License in 1935 and worked for Walgreens until his retirement. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 1998 at HEATHER MORTUARY CHAPEL, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

STEWART, Valeria Leonora, 63, died July 9, 1998. Wife of Earl; mother of Kathryn (Jeffery) Sternberg, David Earl (Rhonda) Stewart and Michael Leon Stewart; sister, of Dolores Joy (Sidney Richard) King; three grandchildren also survive. Memorial Service 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 1998 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway with Rev. Bill Killian officiating. Donations in Valeria Stewart's memory may be made to Tucson Medical Center Hospice, 5301 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712.
