MASSINGILL, Helen Marie, departed this life and entered heaven on August 15, 1998. Helen had dedicated the past 25 years to teaching Latin at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church School. She had said how much her life had been enriched by her work and her students. Her work with the National Junior Classical League took her all over the country each summer and gave her the opportunity to further enrich her students' exposure to Latin. She took great pride in how well her students placed in both state and national competition. Her students' successes and happiness brought her great joy. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Helen will be greatly missed by her family: her husband of 42 years, Doug; daughter, Jacquelyn Peterson (her children, Ryan, Julie, Kelsey and Katie); son Brian (his wife, Frances and their children, Amelia and Kyle); son, Andrew; grandson, Chris Massingill (son of Caren Grant who preceded Helen in death); brothers, Carlos 'Duddy,' Harry and Edwardo; and brother-in-law, Ted. There will be a viewing 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 1998 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. A private funeral service and burial will be held later this week. A Memorial Service will be held this fall at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church School Latin Program, 602 N. Wilmot Rd., T/A 85711 or Tucson Shalom House.

Alejandro M. Ochoa, Jr., 52, of Tucson, passed away August 15, 1998. Survived by wife, Christina B. Ochoa; mother, Carmen M. Ochoa; sons, Alejandro A. Ochoa; and David A. Ochoa; sisters, Cecelia (Tony) Mendoza, Carmen (Pete) Wilkins, Arcelia (Rene) Acevedo, Theresa Fass, Molly (Albert) Murrieta; brother, Rudy T. (Celia) Ochoa. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and additional extended family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Thursday, August 20, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. ZEAK, Edgar D., age 81, of Tucson, passed away August 15, 1998. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Jean, who will deeply miss him and daughter, Barbara Ross (Larry) Widman. Arrangements by ARIZONA MORTUARY.

Maurine Ella Goodin, 74, of Tucson, died August 15, 1998. She is survived by her son, Lee (Fanya) Goodin, Carson City, Nevada and daughter, Darleen (Marco) Figueroa, Tucson; grandchildren, Curtis, Emilio and Gabriella; brother, William (Margrethe) Taylor, Jr.and good friend, Elizabeth Applegate. Memorial Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 758 S. Columbus on Saturday, August 22, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastors David Wallace and Gordon Vernon officiating. LEIBOFF, Ann L., 85, of Tucson, died August 16, 1998. She had been a Tucson resident for 56 years and was the widow of Sam Leiboff. Survived by her son, Michael D. (Jean M.) Leiboff of Mansfield, PA; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Joshua Leiboff; brother, Ben Landow of Tucson; sister, Shirley Gottilla of W. Caldwell, NJ; niece, Linda Young of Guilford, CT. Graveside Services Thursday, 10:00 a.m. Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Lawrence Barr Chaplain of Handmaker Jewish Services For The Aging. The Rebekah Lodge will also provide services. Noblesse all of Tucson; brother of Kathleen Raney of Missouri; 25 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren. WARGO, John S., 87 years old, died Monday, August 17, 1998 in Tucson. Born on April 19, 1911 in Passaic, New Jersey. No known survivors. Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 21, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225E. Speedway, 881-0338.

CARRION, Daniel F., 75, of Tucson, died August 17, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Delia Carrion and his mother, Mariana Carrion, both of Tucson; brother, Richard F. Carrion of El Paso, TX; sister, Mary Lou Burns of Tucson; numerous nephews and nieces. Mr. Carrion served in the Navy during WWII and will be remembered by his family and friends as a gentle, loving man. Funeral Mass Friday, 9:00 a.m., Sacred Heart Church. JACKSON, Jean, 51, died early Tuesday morning, August 19, 1998 in Tucson. Born on April 29, 1998 in Bedford, England. She is survived by her husband for 25 years, Calvin Jackson and her two children, Yvette and Darren who love her deeply. LAINE, Dorothy Rhoads, 76, died August 18, 1998. Wife of Oliver H. Laine; mother of Peggy (Charles) Laine Allen of Phoenix and Linda (Lee M.D.) Moss; grandmother of Lindsey and Melissa Moss. Dorothy was a member of the Dorado Womens Golf League. Memorial Service 10:30 a.m.Saturday, August 22, 1998 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway with Dr. Wayne North officiating. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Pima Community College Nursing Program, 4905 E. Broadway.

MOEDE, Eldon W., 91, passed away August 17, 1998 at Tucson Medical Center Hospice. He was born May 8, 1907 in Paynesville, MN to Agustuf and Ida Moede. He is survived by his wife, Sara Evanor; son Paul (Sandi) of Colorado Springs; and 3 grandsons, Ryan, Eric and Adam. Eldon was a WWII Veteran who served in the Corps. of Engineers. He retired as a supervisor from Magma Copper Company in 1972. He enjoyed sports and music, especially barbershop quartet. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Catalina United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to TMC Hospice or Catalina Methodist Church's radio broadcast 'Perceptions.'

PULLIAM, James, age 54, died August 13, 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. Survived by wife, Marcia Pulliam; father of Joseph, Sonell, Keith, James, Jr. and Sterling Pulliam; mother, Era Thompson; also two brothers and two sisters. Military Honors, D.A.V. Southern Arizona Ritual Team. Memorial Service Friday, August 21, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

SMITH, Della Crosby, 78, formerly of Safford, died 17 August 1998 in Salt Lake City. Della was born in Eagar, Arizona and spent most of her life in Safford, where her late husband, Gerol B. Smith was the manager of the city utilities and bishop of the Safford Ward of the LDS Church. Della, noted for her teaching in the Church and 4-H Club work, served as a Relief Society President in Safford, Sedona and Mesa and has recently authored a history of her grandparents, who founded the town of Eager in the late nineteenth century. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ellsworth of Austin, Texas, Coleen James of Salt Lake City and Kathryn West of Tucson and by 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Friday, 21 August 1998 in Safford, Arizona at Caldwell Funeral Home, 112 East Main Street at 11:00 a.m. preceded by a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and followed by burial in the Union Cemetery beside her husband. Arrangements by Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary, (801) 278-2801.

BLYTHE, Harriette E., 95, of Tucson, passed away August 20, 1998. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

Michael J. Brown I - Born November 11, 1931, passed away August 13, 1998. He is survived by his devoted wife, Doris; children, Linda Sharp of Newport News, WV, Virginia Brown of Austin, TX, Patricia (Jerry) Puckett of Mesa, AZ, Teresa Brown of Tucson, AZ, Michael J. Brown II of El Paso, TX, William E. (Sharon) Brown of U.S. Army in Oakland, CA, James P. Brown of Tucson, AZ; stepson, Tracy M. McBride of USMC in St. Louis, MO; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bennie (Edith) Cole and Arnold (Alice) Cole both of Tucson; numerous nieces and nephews as well as his large extended family of friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Ernest Cole and grandson, Christopher D. McBride. A Memorial Service will be held at the American Legion Post #36, 5845 East 22nd Street at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Harry Wineinger officiating. Military Honors are being handled by the Copper Knights Color Guard which he commanded for almost 30 years. Ramona 'Dena' Eldred, 69, died August 18, 1998. Wife of Dale Eldred; mother of Ramona Dale Buckner, Joyce Marie (David) Moss, Michael Wayne (Joyce) Eldred, Donald Jeffery (Ernestine) Eldred and Lee Marvin (Krystal) Eldred; sister of Gloria Carol and Anna Margaret (Earl) Smiley; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by two sons, David Irwin (Donna) Eldred and Richard Allen Eldred. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway with Dr. Wayne North officiating. Interment to follow at TMP South Lawn with Moose Lodge #1964 officiating. Luis A. Garcia, 63 years old, a native Tucsonan, a resident of Colorado Springs, CO, went to be with the Lord on May 14, 1998. Preceded in death by his parents, Luis Y. and SerafinaA. Garcia. Survived by his wife, Cecilia; children, Greg Farrington of Colorado Springs, Kevin Farrington, CA, Luis Garcia of Tucson, Reyna Olono of Tucson, Michelle Garcia; six grandchildren; five sisters, Evelyn (Joe) Ochoa, Terry West, Margaret (Grayson) Allbright, Sarah (David) Tucker, Grace Quiroz; numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves a legacy of humor, kindness and love. Luis will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 1998 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. with Father Maldonado officiating.

GUTIERREZ, Frances D., age 72, a lifetime resident of Tucson, passed away August 19, 1998. She is predeceased by her husband, Manuel and her two sons, Mario and David Ybarra. Survived by her son, Ruben (Gloria) Ybarra; daughter, Mary (Robert) Padilla; sons, Manny (Cecelia) Gutierrez, Jesus Gutierrez, Eleazar Gutierrez, Rick (Michelle) Gutierrez, Adam (Eileen) Gutierrez; 23grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 1998 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. 'She was a very caring and loving individual who liked to show her love in many ways. We will all love and miss her very much.

JOHNSON, Marvin P., 55, born in Grand Island, Neb. on July 23, 1943, died on August 19, 1998 at his home. He was born to Paul and Cecelia Johnson and lived there until 1973. At that time he moved to Tucson. He married Marjean on December 23, 1970 in Grand Island. He is survived by his wife, Marjean; children, Samantha Johnson, IN, Sonia L. (Gabriel) Lopez and Marvin (Chip) (Rebecca) Johnson both of Tucson; five grandchildren, Jason, Aleah, Valerie, Jasmin and Marissa. He is also survived by sisters, Marie Walters, Mary Richardson and Marian Walters all of Nebraska and a brother, Mark Johnson of OK. Mr. Johnson graduated from Wood River High School in Nebraska. He was a member of the IBEW and Chairman of the Executive Board Local #2223. He was an electrician and worked for BHP Copper Mine from 1973 until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marshall. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 4440 W.Valencia Road with Pastor John Dickens, Jr. officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, SW Division, 1636 N. Swan, Tucson, AZ 85712. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.
