EMO

June E. McArthur Emo

June E. McArthur Emo died Oct. 16, 2005, in her Cayucos home, surrounded by her four children. She was 85.

Born June 7, 1920, in Portal, N.D., she was the second of five children of Eva and Donald McArthur. After high school graduation, she attended North Dakota State University, where she met her future husband, John Emo.

She taught first through fourth grades for two years, then married and moved around the United States with John, who was in the U.S. Army. They eventually settled in California, first in Visalia. In 1962, the family moved to Davis, then in 1985, the couple retired to the coastal paradise of Cayucos.

She found great joy and satisfaction in being a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. In addition, she excelled in numerous other areas: faithful and committed service in her church, with a special concern for missions; gracious, artistic hospitality, extending to people from around the world; and strong leadership in PTA, 4-H youth clubs and political and community organizations.

She also returned to a career in the registrar's department at UC Davis before her retirement.

She had a strong work ethic and Scottish stubborn determination. Her family and friends delighted in her warmth and quick, playful wit.

“Unconditional, Christ-like love was the essence of June's nature and personality, and blessed every relationship of her life, ” her family says. “It was her spirit of love and sincere concern for others, joined with a very giving heart, that characterized her long life.”
