HENSON

Elsie Dean Henson

Elsie Dean Henson of Capay died in Woodland Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at age 78.

Mrs. Henson was born June 1, 1926 in Grainola, Okla. She had been a Yolo County resident for 70 years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include Mrs. Henson's daughters, Alice Cromer and her husband Tom of Russell, Iowa; her sons, Gary Henson and his wife Brenda of Franklin, La. and Maurice and Darrel Henson of Capay; her grandchildren, Robert Henson of Franklin, La., Tressie Cromer of Russell, Iowa, Mandy Hamilton of Chariton, Iowa and Christa Marie Shaffer of Sacramento; two great-grandchildren and her sisters, Opal Bertram of Woodland and Florence Irvine and her husband Ed of Rogue River, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanders and Alta Bair; her sisters, Fern Metzger, Neva Lantz and Christine Bair and her brothers, Irvin Leroy Bair, Alvin Bradley "Pat" Bair and Walter Truitt.

Services: Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, May 23 at Capay Cemetery. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

HENWOOD

Carroll I. Henwood

Carroll I. Henwood, a five-year resident of Davis, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, after a brief illness. He was 87 years old.

Friends are invited to a memorial gathering at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 8, at the Henwood Ranch, 6733 Hammonton-Smartville Road near Marysville.

Born in Omaha, Neb., Dec. 15, 1917, to Carroll and Gertrude Henwood, he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley. He worked for many years in the wine and aerospace industries before retiring in 1972.

In 1974, he and his wife, Mariana, moved to the Henwood Ranch in Yuba County where he was able to pursue his interest in ranching and functioning as a do-it-yourselfer, which his family said he enjoyed. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed boating and travel. He was described as a firm believer in family and education. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Henwood, in 1990.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mariana Henwood of Davis; and by his sons, Michael Henwood of Yuba County and Mark Henwood of Sacramento.

He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Karl, Karen, Andrew, Sarah, Jennifer, Rosemary, Keith and Maeve Henwood; and a great grandson, Simon Henwood.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.

HERDEG

Joe Bill Herdeg

Joe Bill Herdeg, a Yolo County resident and former farmer, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 71.

He was born June 18, 1933, in Chickasha, Okla., to Albert and Eula (White) Herdeg. He began a 23-year career in agriculture with a farming job at age 17. He has lived in Yolo County for the past 15 years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Thelma Herdeg of Woodland; daughters Mary Griffith of Woodland, Carol Barnes of Yuba City, Darlene Martin of Columbus, Wyo., and Patricia Overy of Manteca; and son Albert Herdeg of Suffolk, Va. He also is survived by 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Brenda Dunson, and a son, Michael Herdeg.

Private family services will be held.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Services of Woodland.

HERMLE

Elizabeth "Jean" Hermle

Elizabeth "Jean" Hermle died in Woodland Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at age 79.

Mrs. Hermle was born June 12, 1926 in Dunnigan to Thomas E. and Margaret P. (Meenen) Powers. A lifetime resident of Yolo County, she was retired after working 20 years as an attendance clerk at Woodland High School. She and her husband, La Verne Hermle, ran the family farm in Zamora.

Survivors include Mrs. Herle's daughter, Linda Hellenthal and her husband Erik of Roseburg, Ore.; her son, Thomas Hermle and his wife Linda of Zamora; and her grandchildren, Brad and Mark Hellenthal, Matt and Ryan Hermle. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, La Verne Hermle; and her parents.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Hermle's name be directed to St. John's Retirement Village, 135 Woodland Ave., Woodland, 95695 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 432 Cleveland St., Woodland. Reverend Bill Schroeder will officiate. A private family burial will be held at Mary's Cemetery in Yolo, where Mrs. Hermle will be laid to rest next to her husband. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

HEROLD

Margaret Ann Herold

Margaret Ann Herold died on March 29, 2006, at home surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old.

A celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Ave. in Sacramento. A reception will follow.

Born in Kalamazoo, Mich., she grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Scott High School. She was a graduate of the University of Toledo, where she majored in English and history.

She moved with her family to Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County and worked for United Airlines in San Francisco. She met and married Clarence R. Herold on Oct. 14, 1949. They lived in San Anselmo and Novato, where Clarence died in 1992. Margaret came to live in Davis in 1995.

She was a homemaker while her children were in school, active in numerous clubs. She later started working in classified advertising at the Marin Independent Journal newspaper. She was an avid bridge player and was known as “No Trump Margaret.” Her hobbies were her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Thomas McIntyre Herold of Stateline, Nev.; her daughter, Eileen Vasseur of Davis; and two grandchildren, Sara and Taylor Vasseur of Davis.

She also is survived by nieces and nephews in Ohio: Diane Rowe, William McIntyre, Nancy Walters, Art and David McIntyre, and by her dear friend Victor Cummings of Sacramento.

Memorial contributions may be made to Yolo Hospice or Sutter Davis Hospital.

HERRERA

Leonard Lucero Herrera

Leonard Lucero Herrera entered into rest Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at the age of 80. He was a native of El Paso, Texas, born on Monday, March 24, 1924 and a resident of Sacramento for the past 45 years. Beloved husband of Jessie M. Herrera. Devoted father of Leonard Jr. and Richard. Also survived by his extended family, Margaret, Marina, Pauline, Paul, Barbara, Esther and Anthony. Dear brother of Lucy Pena, Sally Torres and Raymond Herrera. Loving grandfather to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by both parents, Petronillio and Leonor Herrera, sisters, Anita Herrera and Martha Velasquez also a brother, Porfirio Herrera. He was employed by UC Davis for 35 years and an avid 49er fan. He was very proud of his Army background and received a purple heart for his devotion. The family invites you to attend a visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento; (916) 922-5833. Also a crypt side service with military honors is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.

MILLER

Edith D. Miller

Edith D. Miller died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the home of her niece, at age 97.

Born Nov. 5, 1905 in Los Angeles, Ca. Ms. Miller had been a resident of Woodland for 19 years. She was an elementary teacher for 38 years in the Los Angeles area.

Survivors include her niece, Joye Niehues and husband Leo of Woodland; great nephews, Leo Niehues Jr. and wife Mary and children, Kristen, Kyle, Ross and Rochelle of Redwing, Minn., Perry Niehues and children Michael, Megan, and Madeline of Woodland; great nieces, Tammy Hughes and husband Tom and children Cody and Jenna of Hager City, Wis., and Lori Schneider and husband Mark and children, Andrew and Scott of Prescott, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Anna Miller, sisters, June Thiese, and Caroline Cherry Hopkins and Bro. Fred Miller.

Services: Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Woodland City Cemetery on West St.
