STEPHENS

Don Stephens

Winters native, Don Stephens, died in Chico April 10, 1999 following a long illness. Stephens, born July 29, 1925, was the youngest child of the late Ben Stephens and the late Alice Griffin Stephens Treanor. He was a descendant of Yolo County pioneer Stephens, De Vilbiss, and Griffin families. Stephens' early school years was spent in Richmond while residing with his grandmother, Helena Griffin. After his return to the Stephens ranch north of Winters, he attended and graduated from Esparto schools. Stephens served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1947. Upon his return to Winters, he worked as parts manager at Graf's Ford Garage. In 1950 Stephens was married to Wilma Mast of Esparto. Their three daughters were born while residing in Winters.

The family moved to Oroville where he operated a restaurant during the building of the Oroville Dam, worked as an insurance agent, and managed Pony Express Auto parts for 20 years. Stephens was a member of the Chico Elks Lodge and Landmark-Buckeye Lodge #195 F&AM in Esparto. Stephens loved camping at his property at Little Grass Valley in Pluma County and trips to the coast. He was quick witted and had a caring personality.

In 1984, Stephens was married to Gina Manson of Chico, who survives him. He is also survived by his three daughters, Alisa Jones-Stephens of Loomis, Mary Stephens Bell of Lynnwood, Washington, and Martha Braaten of Oroville; two sisters, Peggy Wood of Capay, and Helen Corby of Woodland; two stepdaughters, Judy Herseth of Boise, Idaho, and Sharai Dietz of Chico; a stepson, Rick Manson of Chico; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben G. and Fulton Stephens.

Services were held April 15, at the Club House of Royal Palms Mobile Home Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Landmark-Buckeye Lodge F&AM, 240 Fernwood Drive, Dixon, CA 95620. The Neptune Society of Northern California assisted with arrangements.

STEPHENS

Kenneth Ray Stephens

Kenneth Ray Stephens, born in Sanger, Texas, Dec. 13, 1934, went to be with his Lord on Jan. 18, 2005 in Woodland.

He was born to Jessee Stephens and Vivian Ford. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1957 to 1967. He worked as a truck driver and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Woodland.

He is survived by his daughter who loved him very much, Wende Harris of Dixon. He is further survived by four other daughters, Belinda, Tarri, Becky and Lisa all of Southern California; his grandson, Christopher Stephens of Woodland and four grandsons in Southern California and two great-grandchildren. His parents predeceased him.

A funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 506 Cottonwood St., Woodland, Thursday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. Inurnment with military honors will be private.

STEPHENS

Thomas Mattel Stephens

Thomas Mattel Stephens died in Palo Alto March 4, 2005 at age 85. Beloved husband of the late Kathryn Rushforth Stephens; loving son of the late William G.H. Stephens and the late Florence M. Stephens; dearly beloved brother of the late Bill Stephens and the late Mildred S. Geen; adored father of Jack Stephens and the late Thomas M. Stephens Jr.; cherished grandfather of Paul, Scott, Adrienne, Allison, Amy, Andric, Kristine and Lisa.

Tom Stephens graduated from Woodland High School with honors. He went on to be a member of the class of 1942 at UC Berkeley, where he met his wife, Kathryn Rushforth and became President of the Zeta Psi fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Officer's program, spending his first months at MIT learning the emerging field of radar. He gallantly served his country in several major naval battles in the Asian Pacific during W.W.II. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant.

His working career embraced his love for engineering. He was a business manager with Ford Motor Company. He started a business, became President of the Dohrmann division of Envirotech and an investor/VP of Research for Xertex.

Tom was a caring family man who enjoyed the outdoors. When he wasn't fishing or camping, he would be gardening, working in his "shop" or fixing things around the house. He enjoyed caretaking the family cabin "the Bean" in the Santa Cruz mountains and staying at his lake house fishing in Lake Almanor. He was a friend, mentor and "lender of a helping hand" always willing to put his work aside for the aid of someone else. His strength, kindness and wisdom will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Friends and family are invited to attend memorial services Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park. Donations may be made in Tom's memory to the American Heart Association.

STEPHENS

Mary Joanne (Shull) Stephens

Mary Joanne (Shull) Stephens died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at age 66.

Mrs. Stephens was a resident of Cleveland. She was the daughter of the late Louise and Henry Shull. She was a sales associate with Wal-Mart over 10 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Beckey Fowler of Cleveland, Tenn., Pamela Dawson of Rudy, Ark., Cindy Rose, Lorrie Price and Kelly, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Everett Shull of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 14, at The North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes of Cleveland, with Dr. Larry Cockerham officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster.

STEPHENSON

Braden Anthony Stephenson

Braden Anthony Stephenson, born July 14, 2003, just two years old when he was returned to the Lord on Aug. 10, 2005.

Not one person was left untouched after seeing his bright eyes and wide smile. Young Braden made more friends in his short time on earth than most people make in a lifetime.

He is survived by his mother Tiffany, his father Ken "Bo, " his siblings Tatiana, 13, Brody, 11, and Brock, 3 months, his grandparents Fred and Karen Werner of Lancaster, Robert Stephenson of Davis, and the late Nancy Stephenson, his aunt, Wendi, his uncles Charlie, Derin and Jeremy, as well as so many loving cousins and extended family.

We all mourn the passing of his body, but rejoice in the sure and certain knowledge that his soul rests peacefully and happily in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We are comforted knowing we will all be together one day and that his smile will touch the Angels as he touched us all.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at Dooley Field, Diamond No. 1, 2 San Mateo Way, Sacramento on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 5:30 p.m. Baseball attire is requested and will be appreciated since Braden's great joy was to watch his brother and sister play the game he loved.

A private service will be held for family only on Wednesday, Aug. 17 in the morning. Please send flowers to McNary's Chapel, 458 College Street, Woodland, 95695. Again, a baseball motif would be appropriate.

STEUBING

LeRoy Frank "Bud" Steubing

LeRoy Frank "Bud" Steubing died on July 8, 2004, in Dixon, three days after his 67th birthday, which he celebrated with his children and grandchildren.

Born in Fairport, N.Y., on July 5, 1937, Steubing's greatest passion was his love for his wife and children. Family gatherings, hanging out and talking with his kids, and trips to their summer home at Six-Mile Lake in Canada were highly treasured moments, his family says.

He was also an avid traveler throughout the United States and abroad. He loved spontaneous trips with his family. He enjoyed reading, the theater, gardening, golfing, and was a devoted San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan.

Professionally, Steubing taught elementary school for 34 years, beginning his career in 1960 teaching sixth grade in Rochester, N.Y. The family moved to Davis in 1966, where Steubing taught at Valley Oak Elementary, West Davis Intermediate and Patwin Elementary schools until his retirement in 1997. He also taught adult education and summer school.

He was involved with the Davis Community Children's theater, and was a devoted Little League and Davis High School softball coach.

He graduated from the State University of New York in Brockport with a bachelor of arts degree in education, and held a master's in school administration from Cal State Sacramento.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Zamecnik, and her children Jacob and Kayla of Dixon; son, Bruce Steubing and wife Debra and their daughter Sophia of Carmichael; daughter, Susan Steubing of Carmichael; son, Michael Steubing of Marysville; and sister, Vivian Monson of New Jersey.

A funeral for all those he touched will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin, 640 Hawthorn Lane in Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the donor's favorite children's charity.

STEVENS

Michael Frederick Stevens

Michael Frederick Stevens died Jan. 15, 2006, at Cottonwood Healthcare in Woodland. He was 58.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1947, in Yreka to Clarence and Wauneta (Broughton) Stevens. He grew up in Yreka until the family moved to Sacramento in 1953.

After graduating from McClatchy High School in 1965, he attended Sacramento State College, earning a master's degree in business. He also earned his doctorate in international trade relations in England.

He was employed at Harrah's Casino at Lake Tahoe for six years as personnel manager, and was a caretaker for both of his parents during their final years. He was a lifetime member of Tehama Lodge #3, F&A Masons.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Orr of Rio Linda, and cousin, Bruce Broughton of Ranch Cordova.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Assisting the family with arrangements is Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.
