Wm. Stevenson Sr.
DIED - At Versailles, Kentucky, on Saturday, March 15, 1879, Wm. Stevenson, Sr., father of A.M. and G.H. Stevenson, aged 90 years and 2 days.
Wm. Stevenson, Sr., father of A.M. and G.B. Stevenson, of Vacaville, died at Versailles, Ky., on Saturday last. Mr. Stevenson was a veteran of the war of 1812, and always enjoyed good health up to within two week of his death.
STEWARD
Mrs. J. P. Steward
A large assemblage of relatives, friends and neighbors, representative of four generations gathered Wednesday to pay an affectionate tribute to the memory of Mrs. J.P. Steward, who died in the early morning hours Monday after an illness of three weeks duration.
Mrs. Steward was a native of Iowa, born May 26, 1842, making her almost 84 at her passing. She was married December 23, 1859 to Mr. Steward, and to few has it been given to walk so long, side by side through the bitter and the sweet of life's lights and shadows.
This remarkable allotment of marital comradeship received a statewide recognition a few years ago when the couple received a prize offered to the oldest pair in California.
Mr. and Mrs. Steward heard the call of the west in the late 60's and drove across the plains in a covered wagon, reaching Silveyville in 1870. They moved to Winters in 1874, and except for a comparatively short residence in San Jose, lived here ever since. Mr. Steward built their home, the house now occupied by B.J. Rose, one of the oldest residences in the town. Five children were born to them, two dying in infancy. Surviving with the aged husband and father are Mrs. John Pritchett of Indiana, Mrs. S.H. Hoy of Winters and T.M. Steward of San Jose. The later was born near the Truckee river on the journey across the plains. There are sixteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. A brother Dr. Mack Seeley of San Francisco and a sister Mrs. J. Jones of San Jose also survive their aged sister. Mrs. Hoy has tenderly cared for her mother during her last illness, being constantly at her bedside.
Mrs. Steward has been a part of the community life since before the town was fully organized. Here she lived and wrought, and watched the progress and changes incident to the founding of a new community. She was keenly alert, interested and eager to note the growth and events which compose village life. She was strong, physically capable and suited to the hardships which accompany the lives of pioneers. She was essentially domestic and a home maker. She loved her family and company, especially young people and their pursuits. She was hospitable and her home was always a gathering place for her large circle of friends. Her good humor and optimism made her a wholesome and attractive companion.
Mrs. Steward united with the Presbyterian Church in May 1886, remaining a loyal member throughout the years and being a faithful attendant until age and bodily ailments prevented. Her pastor, Dr. Culton conducted the funeral services. C.P. and C.S. Culton offered song service. Casket bearers were T.H. Fenley, W.D. Overhouse, J.R. Johnson, W.H. Robinson, T.D. Parker and N.A. McArthur.
A wealth of flowers covered the funeral mound, silent affectionate tributes to those who loved and mourn a faithful friend.

J.P. Steward, Winters Pioneer: Dies at 92
J.P. Steward, oldest pioneer of Winters section passed away Friday in San Jose at the home of his son T.N. Steward. Had he lived until October 19, he would have been 92 years of age.
Mr. Steward was a native of Ohio. He was married there in Jones county in December 1860 to Miss Ellen Seely. Early in the 60s they crossed the plains by immigrant train, and were four months on the road. Their son was born en route on the Truckee river and was named Truckee.
On their arrival in California they settled first at Silveyville, Solano county, near the present townsite of Dixon. Remaining there but a short time they moved to Winters. With the exception of three or four years spent in Santa Clara valley, Winters has since been their home.
Steward was a carpenter and many of the old landmark dwellings in Winters were constructed by him. Frequently when business was slack in his trade, he would engage in panning gold along the banks of Putah creek. In 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Steward celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and it was one of the big events in Winters.
Fourteen years later they were awarded a prize by the Sciots for the longest married couple in the State. Mrs. Steward died in 1926. After her death, Mr. Steward went to live with his daughter, Mrs. S.H. Hoy. About a year ago, he left for San Jose, where he has resided since with his son.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Steward has been a member and elder of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three children, T.N. Steward of San Jose, Mrs. S.H. Hoy of Winters and Mrs. John Pritchet of Michigan. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
The passing of Mr. Steward breaks the family line of five generations.
Committal services were read Monday morning at the Winters Cemetery by the Rev. George Kmecik, Presbyterian pastor. Song services were offered by C. Perry and C.S. Culton. Out of town relatives were Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Steward of San Jose, Mrs. Wm Hoy of Placerville, Mrs. Harold Culley and Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Smith of Sacramento. Pallbearers were: Wm. Freeman, Neil McArthur, James Johnston, Wm. Overhouse, F.H. Wilson and T.H. Fenley.

STEWART
David Jeremy Stewart
David Jeremy Stewart died in Sacramento Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at age 25.
Born Aug. 8, 1977, in Sacramento, Mr. Stewart had been a Yolo County resident for 23 years. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1995. He worked for Costco in Sacramento.
Survivors include his parents, Tom and Carol Stewart of Sacramento, brothers, Scott Stewart and wife April of Rancho Cordova and Seith Stewart of Sacramento; grandmother, Joy Martin of Woodland; nephew, Cailin Stewart; niece, Ashlyn Stewart, both of Rancho Cordova. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Clara Stewart of Woodland; and grandfather, Al Martin, also of Woodland.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at New Testament Church, 108 W. Woodland Ave. There will be a gathering after the service at a location to be announced.

Donald Holt Stewart
Donald Holt Stewart died of acute emphysema on Aug. 2, 2004, at Sutter Davis Hospital, just five days before his 84th birthday.
He was a resident of University Retirement Community and was a former Sausalito resident.
He was born in Rochester, N.Y., and graduated from the University of Michigan (Sigma Chi) in chemical engineering in 1942. A friend on the faculty there recommended that he go to New York and apply for the Manhattan Project, saying, "This was the secret way to win the war."
Stewart worked on the Manhattan Project, helping to develop the atom bomb. He worked on nuclear projects throughout his career, ending with a job at the Atomic Energy Commission in charge of the Plowshare Project, a civilian reactor program.
In 1978, he married the former Ruth Alexander, a Sausalito resident and watercolor artist. He worked lastly for U.R.S. Corp., a civil engineering company in San Mateo.
The couple retired to Davis in April 2000. He delivered a number of lectures at URC, informing residents about nuclear energy and his support of it.
Besides his wife, Stewart leaves behind five children, Mara Royce of La Habra Heights, Peggy Delaney of Spokane, Wash., Don Jr. of Kennewick, Wash., Charles Edward of Olympia, Wash., and Vanessa Lacey of Friday Harbor, Wash., and a number of grandchildren and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Lung Association or to the donor's favorite charity.

Eva B. Stewart
Eva B. Stewart died Nov. 15, 2005, in Elk Grove surrounded by friends and family in the house of her eldest son, Alex. She was 75 years old.
Visitation was Saturday. A rosary will be offered at 7 p.m. Monday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. in Davis. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery on Pole Line Road.
She was born Mary Lou Evangelina Baeza Magana in Los Angeles on March 6, 1930, to Francisca Magana Lemus and Francisco Cruz Baeza Salinas. She was orphaned at 3 years old and lived with relatives in Los Angeles until she and her sisters, Elenore and Mildred (Cookie), came to live with relatives in Davis.
She lived with her loving cousins Freddie, Irene, Mickie, Arthur, Fernando, Mary Lou, Hopie, Carmen, Alfred, Rosie, Loli, Henry and Connie in her Tia Emeteria and Tio Eluterio’s warm and caring household. While in Davis she attended elementary and high school.
She married Ralph Hernandez in 1948 and began raising her three sons. She moved to Lake Tahoe in 1957, married Ed Leonard in 1958, married Ken Jutner in 1967 and married Bill Stewart in 1984.
She worked in the gaming industry for more than 35 years and was appointed as one of the first female pit bosses for Harrah’s Tahoe Casino.
She is survived by her husband Bill; her sons, Alex, Robert and Ronald; grandchildren Annissa, Alex, Tyler, Michael, Roxanne, Jazmin, James and Darren; great-grandchildren Eva and Levi; and daughters-in-law Christina, Donna, Marta and Lorie.
She is also survived by special friends Betty Hadler, Teri Ousley and Amelia (Tudie) Pena Basinger and too many cousins, nephews and friends to mention.
STEWART
Lorraine B. Stewart
Lorraine B. Stewart died in Woodland Thursday, Aug. 19, 2005 at age 84.
Mrs. Stewart was born Sept. 23, 1920 in Fresno. She had been a Yolo County resident for more than 60 years. She retired from the Woodland Clinic in 1985.
Survivors include Mrs. Stewart's daughters, Gloria Larsen of Pleasant Hill, Jeannie Marston and her husband John Doerres of Davis; her son, Stephen Stewart and his wife Ramona of Redding; her grandchildren, Teri Krug of Woodland and Jason Coletta of Medford, Ore.; her great-grandchildren, John Michael Krug stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga., Mallory and Tyler Krug and Zachary Atlee, all of Woodland.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at Woodland Cemetery. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
