HURSH

LaVanche Christian Hursh

LaVanche Christian Hursh of Arbuckle died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at age 89.

A lifelong Arbuckle resident, LaVanche was born Nov. 12, 1915 to the late George and Adelaide Christian.

She was the granddaughter of early Colusa County settlers, Charles and Anna Myers.

She attended Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland and was a graduate of Pierce High School.

She also attended Chico State College and was a member of the Alpha Chi Sorority.

LaVanche was the Arbuckle Community Cancer Chairperson for 30 years.

A charter member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of the Colusa Hospital.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Altar Society, an associate member of the Children's Home Society, a Co-President of the Arbuckle Women's Club, a member of the Colusa County Historical Society, chairwomen of the Blood Bank in Arbuckle for many years, a member of the Pierce Youth Foundation.

She was an enthusiastic member of three bridge clubs for many years.

LaVanche was selected the Booster of the Year for Pierce High School in 1992.

In 1999 she was honored as the recipient of the Pierce High School Golden Bear Award.

At Homecoming 2000 at Pierce High School, she was one of the Grand Marshals.

She served as a charter member of the Arbuckle Revitalization Committee.

She was presented by the Arbuckle Fire Dept. in February of 2004 with a plaque and clock in recognition of her outstanding support of the fire department and local community.

LaVanche and her late husband, Vernon, started the Christian & Hursh Fertilizer and Chemical business in Arbuckle in 1949.

Survivors include LaVanche's son, Gary Christian Hursh and his wife Sally of Nevada City; her granddaughters, Kristin Hursh Smith her husband David of Woodland, Trude Hursh and her fiancé Scott Ensor of Roseville and Erin Hursh Cord and her husband Rob of Loomis; her great-grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Brett Smith, Broderick Cord and Addyson Cord; her niece, Jeanell Born of Elk Grove and her extended Family, Robert and Marilyn Hoyt and family of Aptos.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at McNary-Moore Chapel.

Rosary and Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Arbuckle.

Burial to follow at the Arbuckle Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in LaVanche's name to the Arbuckle Revitalization Committee c/o Gail Dawley, P.O. Box 768, Arbuckle, 95912 or to a charity of your choice.

Services are under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service, 107 5th St., Colusa.

Services: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at McNary-Moore Chapel, 107 Fifth St., Colusa.

Rosary and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Arbuckle.

Burial to follow at the Arbuckle Cemetery.

McNary-Moore Funeral Service of Colusa is assisting the family with arrangements.

HUSMANN

Jack H. Husmann

Jack Henry Husmann died Feb. 20, 2001, at the Sierra Health Care Convalescent Hospital in Davis. Born Aug. 16, 1927, in Patchogue, N.Y., he was 73 years old.

After high school in Patchogue, Husmann attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., then the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, where he earned his bachelor's degree in engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and remained active in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant.

He attended UCLA and received a certificate in numerical analysis, then worked from 1949 to 1953 as an engineer for American Export Lines. After the Korean War he went to work for Diamond Power Specialty Corp. as an estimating engineer from 1955 to 1957.

On Aug. 10, 1957, Husmann married his sweetheart, Ann Grodewald, in Central Islip, N.Y. The couple moved to Southern California, eventually settling in Torrance. He went to work for Byron Jackson Pump Co., a division of Borg Warner, and retired in March 1984 as a project engineer.

Husmann worked as an election official in Torrance and did fund-raising for the YCMA. He was an avid golfer and active in the Seniors Golf League of Southern California. He enjoyed traveling, camping, YMCA youth activities, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He moved to Davis in September 1998 and was a member of the Davis Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hanna Voelker, on Dec. 22, 1990.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ann Husmann of Davis; three children, Christopher Husmann and his wife Karen of Gardena, Linda Husmann and her husband Toni Voelker of Davis, and Walter Husmann of Fremont; and three grandchildren, Lisa Voelker of Davis, Eric Husmann of Gardena and Heidi Voelker of Davis. He also leaves his brother, Donald Husmann and his wife Anne of Lexington, Mass.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Davis Lutheran Church, 317 E. Eighth St. Burial will be private at the Davis Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in his name to the Davis Lutheran Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.

HUSTED

Lucille Lorraine Husted

Lucille Lorraine Husted passed away on Feb. 8, 2004 in Auburn. She was born on Nov. 5, 1915, in Oklahoma, to Hershell H. Keek and Zula Pearl Wright. A 50-year resident of Yolo County, she was employed most recently as a receptionist/office manager in the manufacturing industry.

She is survived by a daughter, Rosalyn Adams and two granddaughters, Delcie and Lisa Adams; also by extended family and friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of North-Sacramento funeral Home.

HUSTON

Mildred Louise Huston

Mildred Louise Huston died in Sacramento Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at age 89.

Born July 10, 1914, in El Segundo, Mrs. Huston moved to Sacramento in 1928. She was a Sacramento High School graduate. She retired from the sate Franchise Tax Board after 30 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sacramento, a life member of Mezaleh Temple No. 16, Daughters of the Nile, Tuesday Club, Order of the Eastern Star and the Allied Arts.

Survivors include her children, Robert Huston and wife Alma of Alabama, Ed Huston and wife Mary Kay of Woodland, and Reg Huston and wife Velvali of Salinas; grandchildren, Ryan and wife Krissie, Justin, Megan, Katie, Ross, Jesse and Max Huston; and great-grandson, Riley Huston.

The family requests memorials be directed to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento. Arrangements are under the direction of Naumann Bros. of Sacramento.

Services: A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at First United Methodist Church, 21st and J streets.

HUTCHISON

Fred Moore Hutchison

Fred Moore Hutchison died at his Woodland home surrounded by family members on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at the age of 71 after a long battle with cancer.

Born May 16th 1930, in Dividend, Utah, Mr. Hutchison was a veteran of the Korean War where he fought on the front lines. He was a member of the local VFW.

Mr. Hutchison spent most of his life as a resident of Woodland. His lifelong occupation was truck driving.

He is survived by his ex-spouse Lee Ann Schaupp of Woodland; sons, Lance Shaw and wife Missy Shaw of Seattle Wash., Bryon and his wife Debbie Shaw of West Sacramento; and daughters, Sandra and her husband David Garcia of West Sacramento, and Candi Monteon of Woodland.

Grandchildren Lance and Anthony Shaw of Seattle Wash., Michelle and Crystal Shaw of Sacramento, Manuel Chavez of Sacramento, Rosanna Castro of Sacramento, David Garcia of West Sacramento, Michael, Isaac and Samuel Monteon of Woodland and four great-grandchildren.

Fred is survived by siblings Leah Butler of Spanish Fork Utah and Jack Hutchison of Fernley Nevada. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Hutchison was preceded in death by siblings Jay Hutchison, Robert Hutchison, Lillian Bair and Loel Hutchison.

The family requests that memorial contributions be donated to Yolo Hospice.

HUTCHISON

Marjorie Irene Hutchison

Marjorie Irene Hutchison died in Woodland Sunday, March 9, 2003, at age 75.

Born June 4, 1927, in Bernan Springs, Minn., Mrs. Hutchison had been a Yolo County resident for 53 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Emblem Club.

Survivors include her sons, Ray Hutchison and girlfriend Judy Berg of Sacramento, Hutch Hutchison and wife Sandra of Woodland, and Bret Hutchison and wife Candice of Woodland; daughter, Reneé Strasburg and husband Bruce of Oregon City, Ore.; grandchildren, Ray, Doug, Lacy, Greg, Kelly, Tyler, Simon, Joshua, Jeryme and Christine of Oregon; and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, with a small gathering of family and friend following the service at Calvary Baptist Church.
