Alfred Nobile

Alfred A. Nobile, recently of Maybrook, N.Y. and a 10-year resident of Norwalk, died Nov. 14 following a long illness. He recently celebrated his 82nd birthday. His beloved wife, Candida C. (Cangiano) Nobile of 37 years, died in 1985.

Born on Oct. 5, 1927 in New York, he was the son of the late Anthony and Philomena Nobile and attended local schools. At a young age, he entered into the field of printing and lithography. He worked in business and was a member of its union for more than 40 years in New York for Brooklyn Letter Service and other establishments. He served our nation after WWII in the United States Army.

He was an avid Yankee fan, who loved going to the movies and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis E. Nobile of Westport and Toni Ann and her husband, Gary McGuinness of Maybrook, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Benjamin and Zachary Kampler and Jennifer, Nicole and Kelly McGuinness; three great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Bianca and Mikayla; a brother, Louis Nobile of Florida; two sisters, Rose Langer and Camilla Cosetino, both of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

John Papadatos

John Papadatos, 82, of Norwalk, died Nov. 13, in Norwalk Hospital. Born on June 29, 1927 in Zakynthos, Greece, he was the son of the late Dimitrios and Anna Papadatos.. Papadatos served in the Greek Navy before coming to the U.S. in 1967. He was the former owner of the Post Road Diner for 30 years and a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed spending time with his pet Jasper, cooking, traveling and was an avid gardener. He is survived by daughters Anna Papadatos of Norwalk, Christina Theodoridis and her husband Bobby of Norwalk, Dimitra Papadatos of Athens, Greece, his only grandchild Lazaros, and his longtime companion Marina. He is also survived by his brother Fotis Papadatos of Patra, Greece. He was predeceased by his brother Dionysis and Dionysia of Patra, Greece. Donation can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox, Norwalk.

Donald J. Bainton

Donald J. Bainton, 79, Korean War veteran, Greenwich resident and former president of Continental Can Company, died peacefully on June 13, 2010 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Bainton was born in New York, N.Y. on May 3, 1931 and served as a naval officer during the Korean War.

After the war, Don married Aileen Demoulins Bainton and began his corporate career with Continental Can Company, the largest packaging company in the world and eventually became its president.

Following the sale of the company, Bainton acquired the name and formed a second Continental Can Company. In 1998, with sales nearing $600 million, he sold the company to Suiza Foods (now Dean Foods).

Bainton then acquired the name once again and a third Continental Can was formed, which resulted in a recent acquisition in the United Kingdom.

Bainton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Aileen; and three children: Kathryn Sarka of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; Stephen Bainton of Boca Raton; and William Bainton of Greenwich. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Christina Bainton, James Bainton and Stephen Sarka.

Family will receive friends on today from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St. Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich. A memorial will be held in Boca Raton in several weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Charities USA at 1-800-919-9338. Bainton was a Knight of Malta, and he and his wife have supported numerous Catholic charities throughout the years.

Domenick Borselio

Domenick Borselio, 74, of Riverside passed away on June 11, 2010 at Greenwich Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1935 in Reggio-Calabria, Italy to Luigi and Francesca Borselio. He loved taking walks, reading the newspapers, watching soccer matches and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Briidida Borselio; his two sons, Louis Borselio and Nicholas Borselio and his wife Carol. He is also survived by a brother, John Borselio and his wife Paula; and four sisters: Nancy, Antoinette, Michelina and Catherine; and his two grandchildren, Kayla and Felicia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph Borselio and a brother, Joseph Borselio.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on June 15 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. Internment followed in St. Mary cemetery in Greenwich.

Edward Golub

Edward Golub, 75 of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Norwalk, died peacefully at home on Nov. 3. Born in Brooklyn N.Y., He is preceded in death by parents Isadore and Naomi Golub and brother Dr. Leo Golub. He was known for his kindness and technical abilities, often referred to as Mr. Fix It.

He served in the military and following worked as an electrical engineer developing early ultrasound, x-ray technology and later security systems at our nations nuclear plants. A longtime member of Temple Beth-El, his passion was family, friends and poker.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Renee, daughter Iva and husband Martin Mandel of Stamford; son Neil Golub and wife Claudia of Deerfield Beach Fla.; grandchildren Scott and Alison Mandel, and Jeremy Golub. Helen Y. Kardos

Helen Y. Kardos, 96, lifelong Norwalk resident, died Nov. 7, 2009 at Honey Hill Care Center. Born in Hungary, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara ( Kovacs) Yuhas, she was the beloved wife of the late John W. Kardos.

A member of the United Church of Rowayton, Fairfield County Retired Persons and AARP Chapter 2011, she had worked for the Hat Corporation of America and Valerie Trucking, before retiring as a bookkeeper for Union Trust Co.

Predeceased by her Brother Alexander Yuhas, she is survived by her son William J. Kardos and his wife Linda, of Norwalk, two loving Grandchildren Bill Kardos Jr. and his wife Dawn, of Naugatuck and Karleen Grimes and her husband Torrance of Wallingford, two cherished Great-grandchildren, Lily and Dante, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Charlie.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of Honey Hill Care Center for all their care and support in these past months.

Geraldine Loudon

Geraldine Loudon, 66, of Norwalk died Nov. 4, at the Norwalk Hospital.

Born in Norwalk she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Lois Wilson Boyce.

Surviving are a daughter; Lisa Loudon, of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Bonnie Bray and Troy Bray, of Norwalk; one brother, James Boyce of Danbury; four sisters, Pat Zakhar of Milford, Katherine Hodge of Florida, Lois Goding of Norwalk and Jane Boyce of Danbury, and many nieces and nephews. Loudon was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Boyce.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. Burial will be private.

Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, is in care of the arrangements.

Josephine Nagy

Josephine Nagy, 88, died Nov. 6 peacefully at home. A lifelong resident of Norwalk, she was the daughter of the late Rafael and Anna Tavella. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Alex. Survivors include her two daughters, Darlene Moore and Dorice Drew, her son-in-law Earl Moore, grandchildren Kim Littell, Keri Stepleman, Derrick Drew and Ryan Drew, and her brother Ralph Tavella. She is also survived by three great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being held privately by the Magner Funeral Home, Norwalk. The family would like to thank Visiting Nurse Service of Norwalk and VITAS Hospice Care for their help and kindness.

Thomas H. Black

Thomas H. Black, 85, World War II veteran and former Greenwich resident of Fairfield, beloved husband to Lisa Hunter Black, passed away June 30, 2010 at Stamford Hospital.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was raised in Riverside and Greenwich.

He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees for two years at the end of World War II.

He worked for Time and Life Magazines in advertising sales. Later he helped establish the Smithsonian Magazine, where he served for 25 years before retiring as associate publisher. During his career, he lived in New York City, Detroit and Darien recently moving to Fairfield. Black was a member of Weeburn Country Club. and a former member of the Yale Club.

A true Yankees fan, he was a real sportsman who loved playing squash, football, skiing, and hockey. He was an especially talented tournament golf player. Black traveled much of the world for business, and enjoyed taking his family along when possible.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lisa Hunter Black; two daughters, Kelly Windsor, and her husband, Michael of California, and Leslie Cheney, and her husband, Jim of Fairfield; six grandchildren: Hailey and Madeline Windsor, Caylin, Jillian, Tess, and Blake Cheney; a sister, Deborah Kelly of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Clark, and Ann Matson.

His memorial service was held on July 7 at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church in Fairfield.
