Isabel C. Litchfield

Isabel Crouse Litchfield, 89, beloved mother and grandmother, died on Feb.14, 2010 of natural causes at her Greenwich home.

Litchfield was a soft-spoken and demure woman who was proud to have been a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Donor and Friendly Neighbor programs, as well as for the Meals-on-Wheels Association of America. She was also a volunteer for Greenwich Hospital and a member of the PTA for the Bedford Rippowam School (now the Rippowam Cisqua School). Litchfield was a member of the Bedford Garden Club and was a long-time member of the Bedford Golf & Tennis Club, followed by the Stanwich Club. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, golf and tennis. Her favorite saying was, "To thine own self be true."

Litchfield was born on Nov. 18, 1920 in Utica, N.Y. to Reginald E. and Harriet L. Crouse. She graduated from Utica Country Day School in 1938 and the Stuart School in Boston, Mass. in 1940. In 1949, Litchfield married Philip A. Litchfield and moved to Bedford, N.Y. After divorce, she moved to Greenwich in 1971.

Litchfield was predeceased by a brother, Henry P. Crouse. She is survived by a sister, Gale C. Gilbert of New Hartford, N.Y.; her sons, Christopher of Cos Cob and Eric of Darien; Eric's spouse, Marie; and granddaughters, Hannah and Hayley.

A memorial service was held on Feb. 25 at the Chapel at Christ Church, 245 East Putnam Ave. in Greenwich. Private graveside services followed at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford, N.Y.with Rev. Terence Elsberry officiating at both services. Funeral arrangements were made with Fred D. Knapp Funeral Home in Greenwich.

Eleanor M. Ward

Eleanor M. Ward, 84, of Greenwich, died peacefully on Feb. 16, 2010.

Ward lived in Greenwich for 45 years. She was a former vice president and longtime member of the Greenwich Choral Society. She was also a longtime member of the 14th Twig of Rye, N.Y., as a buyer. In addition, she helped to operate the Gift Shop at The Rye Town Hilton for the benefit of United Hospital. Ward continued her retail career as a co-owner for 12 years of the "Greenwich Boutique" at Greenwich Woods. She was also a member and officer of the former Steamboat Gamblers Investment Club.

Ward was an active member at Second Congregational Church, Greenwich and served in a variety of leadership positions as well as being very involved with The Women's Fellowship. She loved all animals and will especially be missed by her feline best friends, Sophie and Penny.

Ward was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert K. Ward, and her parents, Jack and Susie DeMartin. She was born September 9, 1925 in New Haven, and grew up in Fairfield. She graduated from Green Mountain Junior College in 1945 and from Adelphi University in 1948 with a B.S. in Nursing. She met her husband of 54 years while working in the Emergency Room of United Hospital, Port Chester, NY.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Ward Raposa and her husband, David of Tiverton, R.I.; her daughter, Sally Ward McGovern and her husband, Kenneth of Avon; and grandsons, Conor and Gavin McGovern. She also is survived by her brothers, Dr. John J. DeMartin and Dr. Robert E. DeMartin, both of Fairfield.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Second Congregational Church, 139 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Second Congregational Church, 139 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830; to Cat Assistance Inc., P.O. Box 539, Ardsley, N.Y. 10502; or to the charity of your choice.

Ann L. Mancuso (Bolek)

Ann L. Mancuso (Bolek), 58, of Greenwich, passed away on Feb. 21, 2010.

She was a native of Port Chester, N.Y. and will be remembered for her warm humor, her great spirit and her dedication to her family in good times and bad.

Mancuso is survived by her husband, Sal L. Mancuso, Jr.; her daughter, Amanda; her son, Dominic; a grandson, Dylan; and her siblings, Agnes Zerbo, Carol Esemplare, Michael Bolek, Paul Bolek, Bernadette Badillo, Mary O`Hara and Andrea Hoge. Her son, Sal L. Mancuso, III, and a sister, Michele Bolek predeceased her.

Calling hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m. The memorial service wil be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Feb. the 27, and both will be held at The Castiglione Funeral home in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in Mancuso's memory to assist them with the medical expenses.

Ray Elizabeth Henry

Ray Elizabeth Henry passed away peacefully on Feb. 22 at Greenwich Hospital. She was born on June 7, 1918 in Philadelphia to Byron Sr. and Reba (Jago) Hacker. A graduate of Skidmore College and the Public Health Nurse for the Town of Greenwich, Ray was an avid gardener and a member of the Old Greenwich Garden Club. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and involved with the conception of the Compeer Program, both in Greenwich.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alvan L. Henry, Sr.; son, Alvan L. Henry, Jr.; a stepdaughter, Carol, Brother Byron Hacker, Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Herman. She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Jonathan (Betsy); her daughters, Georganne Hansen of Old Greenwich, and Rebecca Dion (Ray) of Bellevue, Washington.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Eric Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Stacy Hansen Richardson of Annapolis, Md., Lisa Henry Smith of Stamford, and Jennifer Bullen of Marina Del Ray, Calif. She also has two great-grandchildren, Grace and Abigail Richardson. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Her family asks that donations be made to the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the National Institute of Mental Health.

Ursula Siebel

Ursula Siebel, 89, died February 12, 2010 at her home in El Paso, Tax. She lived in Greenwich for more than 50 years.

Siebel was born on June 21, 1920 in Dusseldorf Germany to Werner and Anita Voerster Siebel. She worked at Russell Birdsall and Ward in Port Chester and at General Foods in White Plains until her retirement. She was active in the Senior Center, the Mews and the Senior Arts Assoc. She loved to travel and was devoted to her family.

She is survived by her two nieces, Anita Segaline of El Paso, Texas and Jutta Hoagland Franks of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a nephew, Peter Orbanowski, of Old Greenwich.

She was predeceased by her brothers Rolf and Klaus Siebel of Dusseldorf Germany and her sister Annelotte Orbanowski of Greenwich.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Contributions in Siebel's memory may be made to The Mews, ½ Boling Place, Greenwich, Ct. Barbara J. Troy

Barbara J. Brennan Troy died peacefully on Feb. 13, 2010 surrounded by her children.

Troy was born on Feb. 26, 1937 in Denver, Colo. She raised her children in Hauppauge and Montauk, N.Y. and resided for the past 11 years in Greenwich. She most recently worked at Greenwich Hospital.

She is survived by her four children: Michael Troy of Greenwich, Theresa Troy of Lake Forest, Ill., Matthew Troy of Wilton, and Kathleen Fitzgerald of Wilton; two brothers, Don and Jim Brennan of Seattle, Wash.; her cousin Maryann Clancy of Niantic; and nine grandchildren: Dylan, Christopher, Samantha, Madeline, Alexandra, Brennan, Caroline, Hannah and Riley.

She will be best remembered for her devotion to her grandchildren, which her family said was an inspiration and her greatest gift to them.

A service was held on Feb. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich.

Doreen Lally Vancho

Doreen Elizabeth Lally Vancho, 63, Greenwich native and Stamford resident, passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2010 after a six-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Greenwich on Feb. 6, 1947 to Jack and Edna Lally, attended Greenwich public schools and graduated from St. Mary High School in l965.

Vancho graduated from Greenwich Hospital Nursing School in 1968 and continued her nursing career at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She retired from nursing to dedicate herself to become a full time mother after her daughters were born. She later became a teacher at St. Paul's Day School in Riverside.

Vancho is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Dena E. Haight and her husband Patrick and Bethany L. Vancho; and a grandson Sean Patrick Haight. She is also survived by her sisters, Lynda Norman, Jane Parrett) and goddaughter Lori Parise.

A Celebration of life will be held today at St. Agnes Church, 247 Stanwich Road, in Greenwich at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Greenwich Hospital, Oncology Department, 5 Perryridge Road, Greenwich CT 06830 The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. M. Sung Lee, Dr. James Burnetti and the entire Oncology staff at Greenwich Hospital.

Robert D. Virtue

Robert D. Virtue, 92, died at The Nathaniel Witherell on Feb. 13, 2010. Virtue, who was born in Glasgow Scotland, lived in Greenwich most of his life.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich and volunteered with the Salvation Army, where he managed the Christmas kettles for many years. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a past master in the Masonic Acacia Lodge.

Virtue is survived by his son David; and daughter Beth; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Jeanne).

Friends may call today at Knapp Funeral Home 267 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich from 3 - 6 p.m. A memorial service will be at the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich, 38 West End Ave. Old Greenwich, at 11a.m. tomorrow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Nathaniel Witherell Patient Fund, 70 Parsonage Rd., Greenwich.
