Joseph T. Rozint

Was golf professional

WATERBURY - Joseph Thomas Rozint, 68, of Waterbury, died Thursday, April 30, 2009. He was the husband of Cheryl (DeMaio) Rozint.

Mr. Rozint was born May 12, 1940, in Waterbury, son of the late Joseph C. and Cristine (Galvin) Rozint. Joe graduated from Sprague Grammar School, Crosby High School and attended the Seminary of Our Lady of Angels. He then attended St. Bernard's Institute of Theology and Ministry where he graduated in 1962. Joe was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on May 14, 1967.

Joe married his beloved wife, Cheryl, in 1993. He maintained a career as a golf pro at Quarry Ridge Golf Club in Glastonbury and also worked in the insurance and mental health industries before his retirement in 2007. He was an original member of Sandy Shore Park Beach Club in Wolcott since 1954 and enjoyed UConn Huskies men's and women's basketball. Joe also served as chaplain for the N.Y. Yankees in the early 1970's and was an avid Yankees baseball fan. Joe also made many trips to Ireland and Scotland to play golf.

Besides his wife of Waterbury, Joe is survived by his father-in-law, Anthony DeMaio of Hamden. Joe was brother-in-law to David and Pamela DeMaio of Guilford, Denise and George Hindinger and Kristen DeMaio-Lendroth and Jeff Lendroth, all of Hamden. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Marie DeMaio.

Funeral service with cremains present will be held Tuesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 5, from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Countryside Manor of Bristol, Attn: Resident Council, 1660 Stafford Ave., Bristol 06010.

Victoria P. Apicella

New Haven native

SHARON - Victoria Pasquale Apicella, 84, of Main Street, died at her home on May 20. She was the widow of Vincent Apicella.

Victoria was born March 4, 1925 in New Haven, Conn. She was the daughter of the late Mary (Fico) and Victor Pasquale.

She was educated in New Haven. She lived in Philadelphia for several years before moving back to New Haven. She worked with her husband at Fair Haven Camera in New Haven. She had been a resident of Sharon for five years. For many years she loved to cook to the delight of her family, many friends, and neighbors.

She is survived by a son, Jack Apicella of Sharon; a daughter, Marry Ann Hollihan of Canaan; a sister, Julie Gray of Lumberton, N.J., and her two grandchildren Brandon and Charlotte Hollihan. She is also survived by her dog Shadow.

Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Kenny Funeral Home, 41 Main St., Sharon. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at the Hollow Brook Farm, 16 Hollow Brook Lane, Canaan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Mrs. Carmen M. Deschaine Formerly of Wolcott

CLAREMONT, N.H. - Mrs. Carmen M. (Chasse) Deschaine, age 93, formerly of Wolcott, died Monday, May 25, 2009, at the Sullivan County Nursing Home in Claremont, N.H., after an extended illness. She was the widow of Ludger Deschaine.

Carmen was born on April 25, 1916, in St. Agatha, Maine, a daughter of the late Felix and Sophie (Bouchard) Chasse. She moved to Connecticut from Maine in 1937 and then to New Hampshire in 1978. She worked for many years as a buffer at the Holgrath Co. in Waterbury. Her own life was centered around cooking and caring for her family. She loved her flower gardens and was an avid card player. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Claremont.

Mrs. Deschaine leaves a son, Robert Deschaine and his wife, Gloria, of Claremont, N.H.; three daughters, Judith Johnson and her husband, Gus, of Watertown, Rita Deschaine of Claremont, N.H., and Diane Stone and her husband, Pete, of Campton, N.H.; a brother, Norman of Wolcott; and two sisters, Rolande Lannon of Wolcott, and Marcella Benson of Oakville. She also leaves seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Sylvio, William, Henry, Rene, Levi and Leonard, are deceased.

Funeral services for Mrs. Deschaine will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 9:15 a.m. from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville, to St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, Watertown, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Deschaine memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Research CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Road, Kensington CT 06037.

Ms. Gwen L. Morris

Native of Waterbury

WOODBURY - Gwen L. Morris, of Woodbury, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, at The River Glen Health Center in Southbury.

Gwen was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Waterbury. She was raised in Waterbury by her late parents, Glenn and Angela Barber Oliver. Having lived in Woodbury since 1953, she worked for William Morrow Publishing in New York City and retired from Braxton Mfg. in Woodbury.

Gwen is survived by a son, Walter Morris and his wife, Linda, of Waterbury; two grandchildren, Walter and Elysa; an "adopted" daughter, Connie Cole-Ingber of Oxford; a brother, Glenn "Buzz" Oliver, and a nephew, Jason Oliver, both of Alvin, Texas; and her closest friend, Leslie Lintner. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Joyce Oliver.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist Society of Woodbury, 122 South Pomperaug Ave., Woodbury, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spruce Bank Farms, c/o Woodbury Interfaith Elderly Housing Corp., P.O. Box 519, Woodbury 06798.

The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St., is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas E. Egan Sr.

Worked in the food business

TORRINGTON - Thomas Edward Egan Sr., 82, of Torrington, formerly of Waterbury, passed away Monday, May 25, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Anita (Dugre) Egan.

Mr. Egan was born in Waterbury, April 27, 1927, son of the late Patrick J. and Margaret (Ryan) Egan. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1944 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving on the USS Houston on a postwar European tour. He then went on to graduate from Bryant College in Rhode Island with a degree in business.

With his father, he ran Egan's Diner in Waterbury until he started his own business, Egan's Food Service, which he ran until his retirement. Mr. Egan also managed catering services at Post College for many years.

Mr. Egan is survived by his children, Patrick J. Egan and his wife, Joanne Ceccarelli-Egan, of Farmington, Suzanne E. Sullivan and her husband, David, of West Hartford, Thomas E. Egan Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Southington, Margaret M. Bernabe and her husband, William, of Southington, Elizabeth A. Egan and her husband, Knut Baalerud, of Marietta, Ga., and Mary A. Katis and her husband, George, of Acton, Mass. Also his 13 grandchildren, his sister, Ellen Delaney of Rocky Hill, several nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Marie Dubois of Torrington. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward R. Egan.

Funeral will be held Thursday, May 28, at 10 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury, to Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St., Waterbury, for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial in New St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Norine Kyle

Wilby graduate

WATERBURY - Mrs. Norine (Rolandi) Kyle, 94, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Monday evening, May 25, 2009, at her home. She was the wife of the late John A. Kyle.

Norine was born in Waterbury on Aug. 11, 1914, daughter of the late Joseph and Armida (Coscia) Rolandi. She graduated from Wilby High School and from Post Business School and later worked at Colonial Bank and then Bank of Boston in Waterbury for many years until her retirement. After her retirement, she volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Shelter in Waterbury and also worked in the office of her son-in-law, Dr. Gerardo B. Querijero in Waterbury. She was a communicant of SS. Peter & Paul Church in Waterbury for most of her life.

She loved to travel throughout the world and especially loved to vacation with her family on Cape Cod. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could always be counted on for a kind word and a good story. She was the last surviving member of the "Get Together Club, " a lovely group of women who were friends throughout all the phases of their lives and got together monthly for more than 70 years. More than anything else, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, John F. Kyle and his wife, Judy, of Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Carolyn Querijero of Woodbury, and Catherine Kyle and her husband, James Benkahla, of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Michelle Querijero, Jennifer Birkenhead and her husband, Adam, Lisa Bennett and her partner, Dr. Brianne Mahoney, Kelly Detrick and her husband, Doug, Heather Kyle, Marie Kyle and Christopher Tansey; three great-grandsons, Connor Beck, Quincy Birkenhead and Phoenix Detrick; many nieces and nephews; and her loving aide, Kathy Gonzales of Waterbury. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Garofalo, and her brother, Frank Rolandi.

Arrangements. Funeral 9:30 a.m. Friday from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, to SS. Peter & Paul Church for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Calling hour will be held Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Waterbury, 114 Benedict St., Waterbury 06706.

Mrs. Carol Pekock

Saint Mary's Hospital nurse

WATERBURY - Mrs. Carol (Dooley) Pekock, 71, of Waterbury, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Raymond F. Pekock.

Carol was born in Waterbury on Oct. 21, 1937, daughter of the late Francis and Ruth (Northrup) Dooley. She was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1955, and Saint Mary's School of Nursing, class of 1958. She was a nurse at Saint Mary's Hospital, and later co-founded Waterbury Association for Retarded Citizens Pre-School where she worked for 35 years. Her hobbies included golf, tennis and spending time at her home on Cape Cod.

Besides her husband of 50 years, she leaves a son, Steven R. Pekock and his wife, Amy, of Andover, Mass.; two daughters, Karen Ryan and Ray Primini of Waterbury, Susan Pekock and Mark Tanzer of Boston, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ryan, Lincoln Pekock and Channing Pekock.

Arrangements: Funeral 9 a.m. Monday from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, to Blessed Sacrament Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
