Mrs. Hazel M. Keyser

WATERBURY - Hazel M. Keyser, 86, of Hill Street, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009, at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Keyser.

Mrs. Keyser was born in Fairfield on May 29, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Newton and Florence (Lynch) Leas. She lived in Waterbury her whole life and was a graduate of Wilby High School in 1941. She was later employed by the Timex Corporation as a machine operator until her retirement.

She is survived by one son, Robert G. Keyser of Riley, N.C., and two daughters, Gail Gillies and Christine Carnein, both of Waterbury. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements; Funeral services for Hazel will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Bucks Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Kelly R. Powell

Founder of Ryan's Place

WATERBURY - Ms. Kelly Rene Powell, 40, of 260 Pine St., died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Waterbury Hospital.

Ms. Powell was born March 3, 1969, in Methuen, Mass., a daughter of William Askew of Haverhill, Mass., and Claudia (Powell) (Askew) Stevens of Jacksonville, N.C. She was educated in Lawrence, Mass., attended Naugatuck Valley Community College and was currently enrolled at AIU University.

Kelly was a community activist and was the founder of Ryan's Place in Waterbury, a home for at risk women. She attended Refuge Church of Christ.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her stepfather, Michael Stevens of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sons, Taylor Washington, Jeremy Powell and Melvin Vann, all of Waterbury; one sister, Shauna Figueroa of Waterbury; two brothers, Gordon Askew of Meriden, and William Askew of Waterbury; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Howard of Waterbury; several aunts and uncles; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. She was predeceased by one son, Ryan Askew.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Refuge Church of Christ, 15 Hawkins St., with Elder Roland Johnson officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery. Calling hour will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at the church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service and at all other times at the home of her sister at 15 Cindy Drive.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel Memorial Funeral Home, 35-37 Grove St., Waterbury.

Ralph A. Cretella Jr.

Industrial art teacher

WATERBURY - Ralph A. Cretella Jr., 75, of Bentwood Drive, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the Cheshire House. He was the beloved husband of Jane A. (Emmons) Cretella.

Mr. Cretella was born March 10, 1934, in Waterbury, son of the late Ralph A. and Helen (DeBonis) Cretella Sr. He graduated from Central CT State University with a master's degree in education. He worked for the Waterbury school system for more than 36 years as an industrial arts teacher and was a department head at Kennedy High School.

He was a member of the Wolcott Land Owners Protective Association, the Bristol Fish & Game Club, and the Waterbury Elks Club No. 265 B.P.O.E. His hobbies included hunting and trap shooting.

Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by his son, Ralph A. Cretella III of Waterbury; his daughter, Sherry Tamburrino and her husband, Michael, of Lebanon, Tenn.; and his grandsons, Jarrod Tamburrino and his wife, Brittany, of Terryville, and Casey Tamburrino of Lebanon, Tenn. He also leaves his brothers-in-law, Robert Emmons and his wife, Edith, and Herbert Emmons and his wife, Jeanette, all of Waterbury; his sister-in-law, Edith Arnold and her husband, Raymond, of Morris, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 22, at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Road, Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 19, from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Leo the Great Church Scholarship Fund, 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury, CT 06705; or the Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 538, Thomaston, CT 06787.

Mrs. Yvette Sevigny

Services on Saturday

CHESHIRE - Yvette Sevigny, 93, passed away on June 15, 2009, at the Elim Park Baptist Home. She was the wife of the late Leo F. Sevigny of 50 loving years.

Mrs. Sevigny was born on Sept. 7, 1915, in Fall River, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Alcidas and Arthemise (Lavoie) Picard. Yvette was married in 1940 and lived in New York until 1998 before moving to Cheshire.

She is survived by two daughters, Pauline Pagano of Florida, and Jacqueline Kehayas of Colorado; her two sisters, Clarice Gagnon of Massachusetts, and Florence and her husband, George Southland, of California; and her grandchildren, Linda and her husband, David Jamele, Diane Pagano, all of Cheshire, Robert and his wife, Rachel Pagano, of Florida, Joseph and his wife, Wendy Rodriguez, of California, and Jennie-Marie Kehavas of Colorado. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Yvette was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Roger Picard, a sister, Lorraine Parent, a son-in-law, Angelo Pagano, and a grandson, Michael Pagano.

Her family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Elim Park Skilled Nursing Unit for all the kindness and care shown to Yvette during the four years she resided there. They also thank Vitas Hospice for providing her care and comfort.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 No. Brooksvale Road, Cheshire, on Saturday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church. Burial will be in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.

Joanne Lebel

Waterbury resident

WATERBURY - Joanne Lebel, 72, of North Main St., died Thursday morning at Bucks Hill Health Center.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Snyder Funeral Home, 114 Willow St., Waterbury, has been entrusted with arrangements.

James V. Christiano

Onwed K&J; Automotive

WATERBURY - James V. Christiano, 59, of 147 Crestwood Ave., died peacefully Thursday, July 2, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Christiano was born in Waterbury on Feb. 24, 1950, son of John Christiano Sr. of Waterbury and the late Mary (Desjardins) Christiano. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident having graduated from St. Thomas Grammar School and Kaynor Tech High School and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam.

Mr. Christiano was the former owner of K&J; Automotive Service for over 30 years. He was a member of the Bristol Fish and Game.

Besides his father, he is survived by one son, Peter J. Christiano of Waterbury; one daughter, Rebecca L. Christiano of Waterbury; one brother, John "Jack" Christiano Jr. of California; and three sisters, Rose Taliercio of Norwalk, Mary Fichandler of New Haven and Nancy Braz of Naugatuck. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Christiano.

Funeral arrangements are private. There are no calling hours. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Patricia D'Angelo

Was registered nurse

SOUTHINGTON - Patricia "Petie" (Noonan ) D'Angelo, 81, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dr. Anthony D'Angelo.

She was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Derby, the daughter of the late Francis and Gladys (Gade) Noonan. She had been a registered nurse, a parishioner of St. Thomas Church and a volunteer at Bradley Memorial Hospital Thrift and Gift Shop.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Kanute and her husband, David, Nancy Yalanis and her husband, Stephen, Debra Wiltse and her husband, David, all of Southington, Thomas D'Angelo and his wife, Susan, of Trumbull; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Warren and her husband, Chris, Amy Marsh and her husband, Les, Sarah Drayton, Tracy Sizer and her husband, Mark, Christopher Yalanis, Brian D'Angelo, Scott D'Angelo, Anthony Wiltse, Matthew D'Angelo, Rebecca Wiltse and Adam Wiltse; and 4 great-grandchildren, Cody Warren, Jaedyn Drayton, Brooke Warren and Caitlin Sizer. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lorraine Noonan, Marjorie D'Angelo, Josephine D'Angelo and Mary Mancini; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Francis "Luke" Noonan, and a sister, Nancy Hummel.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Bradley Memorial Auxiliary, c/o Jean Kirychuk, 172 Mountain View Road, Southington 06489.
