Mrs. Joanne G. Petro-Roy

Formerly of Waterbury

PLANTSVILLE - Mrs. Joanne G. (Gallucci) Petro-Roy, age 69, of Cornerstone Court, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at her home. She was the wife of the late John "Nick" Petro-Roy.

Mrs. Petro-Roy was born on Jan. 23, 1940, in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Theodore and Hilda (Armstrong) Gallucci. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and worked as a sales associate for G. Fox & Co., later named Filene's, for more than 30 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her time with her family.

Joanne is survived by a son and her daughter, Debra Schumann and her husband, Mark, of Wallingford, two grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.

The funeral will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 9 a.m. from the Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Ruth Duchaine

Loved bowling, square dancing

BRISTOL - Ruth (Thompson) Duchaine, 81, of Bristol, beloved wife of Normand J. Duchaine, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009, with her loving family at her side.

Ruth was born in Bristol on April 26, 1928, and was a daughter of the late James C. and Ruth (Cole) Thompson. She resided in Bristol all her life and was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, Bristol.

For "Ruthie, " family was most important and her calling in life; she devoted herself to being a wonderfully caring and loving wife and mother. Her youthful activities included membership in her 4-H club, bowling, knitting and square dancing. She was an avid lifetime Red Sox fan as well as a devoted UConn Husky supporter. Her sparkling eyes and happy smile will truly be missed.

In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by three daughters, Janet Duchaine and her husband, Jonathan Fauver, of Harwinton, Susan Duchaine of Bristol, and Pamela Wygonowski and her husband, Ronald, of Southington; two brothers, James and Thomas Thompson, both of Bristol; a sister, Corinne Bushy of Bristol; two grandchildren, Jameson Fauver of Harwinton, and Alexandria Schweiger of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James Norman Duchaine, and a daughter, Beverly Duchaine Schweiger.

Ruth's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sheriden Woods Health Care Center, Bristol.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, 10 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church, 99 Summer St., Bristol. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to the Connecticut Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2969 Whitney Ave, Hamden 06518-2556.

Amil E. Bruneau Jr.

Torrington resident

TORRINGTON - Amil E. Bruneau Jr., 50, of Torrington, former Plymouth resident and husband of Laura (McOmber) Bruneau, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, in Torrington.

He was the son of Amil E. Bruneau Sr. of South Carolina and Martha (Williams) Lorton of Torrington. Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a daughter, Danielle Bruneau, and two sisters, Renee Corriveau and Cindy Bruneau.

Friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville, Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Adelaide De Somma

Liked to cook, make wine

WATERBURY - Mrs. Adelaide (Graziano) De Somma, 90, formerly of 85 Wooster Ave., Waterbury, passed away peacefully after a long illness at Meridian Manor on Sunday, July 12, 2009. She was the widow of Antonio De Somma, who died in 1990 after 44 years of marriage.

Mrs. De Somma was born in Mercogliano, province of Avellino, Italy, daughter of the late Costantino and Angela (Marinelli) Graziano. She was a Waterbury resident since moving here from Italy in 1968. Adelaide's greatest joy was caring for her family. She enjoyed the art of cooking, crocheting, gardening and making wine.

Her family would like to thank the staff of the Meridian Manor of Waterbury for the loving care given to Adelaide.

She leaves a son, Martino De Somma and his wife, Charlene, of Waterbury; and three daughters, Luisa d'Acierno and her husband, Gennaro, of Monteforte Irpino, Avellino, Italy, Anna Cavallo of Waterbury, Filomena Hudobenko and her husband, Leon, of Middlebury. She leaves two brothers, Michele and Giuseppe Graziano of Mercogliano, Italy; along with several nieces and nephews. Adelaide leaves nine grandchildren, Carmine d'Acierno of Pisa, Italy; Antonio d'Acierno of Nuoro, Sardegna, Italy; Martino d'Acierno of Florence, Italy; Roberts d'Acierno of Monteforte Irpino, Avellino, Italy; Domenico and Antonio Cavallo of Waterbury; Martina De Somma of Ferndale, Mich.; Tanya and Lauren Hudobenko of Middlebury; and two great-grandchildren, Gennaro d'Acierno of Pisa, Italy, and Chiara d'Acierno of Sardegna, Italy. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Leone Cavallo. Adelaide was the middle child of 13 children.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Monteforte Irpino, Italy. Burial will be in Monteforte Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.

Mrs. Judith C. Green

Lifelong Litchfield resident

LITCHFIELD - Judith Carotenuti Green died peacefully at home on Jan. 13, 2009, surrounded by her loving family after gracefully fighting a long battle with cancer.

Born on Aug. 5, 1940, to Marion (Dingwell) and Anthony Carotenuti, she was a lifelong resident of Litchfield. After graduation from Litchfield High School in 1958, Judith began her career in x-ray technology at Waterbury Hospital, retiring in 1985, to spend more time at home with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to her vacation home in Florida.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen, of 49 years, their son, Gregory Green and his wife, Robin, along with their children, Tyler, Quentin and Alec Green, and their daughter, Amity Green Wolfe and her husband, Kevin, and their children, Dane, Derek and Dylan Wolfe, all of Litchfield. Judith leaves a brother, Michael (Mickey) Carotenuti and his wife, Dolores, of Rocky Hill; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Her family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire oncology staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, especially Dr. Debra Brandt, as well as the Carole and Ray Neag Center at UConn Medical Center, Farmington, in particular, Dr. Molly Brewer, whose expertise, love and compassion meant so much.

Calling hours for friends and family are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ms. Frances Januska

Volunteered at Waterbury school

BRISTOL - Frances (Bartuski) Januska died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, July 19, at Bristol Hospital.

Ms. Januska was born in Waterbury on Feb. 19, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Druteika. She retired from GTE Sylvania, earning her CNA designation at age 70, and worked for five years caring for people. Frances volunteered as a foster grandparent at Tinker School. She had a zest for life, loved to travel and dressed to perfection.

Surviving her are two daughters, Sandra LaCapra of Bristol, and Judith Livermore of Southbury. She also leaves six grandchildren, Steven, Krista, George Jr. and Stacy LaCapra, Darren Bragg and Jennifer Pompei; and eight great-grandchildren, Devon, Malina, Mason, Riley, Reese, Regan, Anthony and Alyssa.

Burial in Waterbury's Lithuanian cemetery was private. A memorial Mass will celebrated at St. Patrick's Church in Waterbury on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 6:15 p.m. The Snyder Funeral Home, 114 Willow St., has been entrusted with arrangements.

Mrs. Holly Guerrera

Taught gymnastics, dance

WATERBURY - Mrs. Holly (Thompson) Guerrera, 46, of 662 Frost Road, Waterbury, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the wife of John A. Guerrera.

Holly was born in Waterbury on Dec. 5, 1962, daughter of Lorraine (Lynch) Thompson of Waterbury and the late Thomas C. Thompson. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School Class of 1980. She was an instructor at American Gymnastics in Plantsville, and she was a dance instructor and gymnastics teacher at Fabulous Feet Dance Company on Freight Street in Waterbury. She also worked at the Waterbury Girls Club. She was an avid cat lover and collector of Raggedy Ann dolls.

Besides her husband of 28 years and her mother, she leaves two daughters, Amber Lynn Spadafina and her husband, John, of Meriden, Ashley Breann Guerrera of Waterbury; a brother, Thomas Thompson III of Watertown; a sister, Lori Sills of Bristol; her mother-in-law, Gertrude Guerrera of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial with Holly's cremains present will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Church, Southmayd Road, Waterbury. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will be receiving friends and relatives Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her children in care of John A. Guerrera, 662 Frost Road Apt. 4, Waterbury 06705.
