ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Thelma Louise Hartman King of Alexandria died Saturday, April 11, 1998, in Alexandria Hospital. She was 70.
Mrs. King was born in 1927, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late David J. Hartman and Eve Cloman.
She worked as an accountant with Jackson-Hewitt in Alexandria for several years, and retired in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Larmen King Jr., many years ago.
She is survived by four daughters, Iris Christine Lovelady of Springfield, Eve Michelle Ellison and Cindy Lou King, both of Washington, D.C., and Susan Marie King of Arlington; one brother, James Hartman of Laurel, Del.; and two grandchildren.
Service will be at 2 p.m. today at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, Del.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown, Lewes.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, N.Y., or ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease Foundation.
Elizabeth C. Hansen, 88
LEWES - Elizabeth C. Hansen of Lewes, and formerly of Dover, Rehoboth Beach, Flemington, N.J., Melbourne, Fla., and Bridgeville, died Saturday, April 11, 1998 in the Lewes Convalescent Center. She was 88.
Mrs. Hansen was born Dec. 23, 1909, near Redden to the late Annie Short Conaway and William Benton Conaway. She grew up in Bridgeville, attended a one-room schoolhouse near Coverdales Crossroads and graduated from Bridgeville High School in 1928. She was one of only 5 percent of the women of her generation to attend college, and she graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1930 with a degree in dietetics. She began her career as a dietitian at Philadelphia Lying-In Hospital. After her marriage to Thomas P. Hansen, a native of Rising Sun, she gained the distinction of being the first married woman to be hired by Public Service in Trenton, N.J., where her job was to demonstrate proper use of new kitchen appliances to homemakers throughout central New Jersey.
She and her husband returned to the family farm in Bridgeville in 1940 after the birth of their daughter, Ann, and lived there until 1972.
Mrs. Hansen retired from the Bridgeville Consolidated School District in Bridgeville, where she had worked as a cafeteria manager from 1956-1971. She was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Milford, and a member of the Delaware School Food Service, and she has been honored as a 4-H Link.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Thomas Peter Hansen; and a half-sister, Lillian Conaway Johnson.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Hansen Hughey of Lewes; two grandsons, Scott Hansen Hughey of Chambersburg, Pa., and Mark Evans Hughey of Pensacola, Fla.; a granddaughter by marriage, Jill Edwards Hughey, and a great-grandson, Peter Edwards Hughey, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; cousins, Catherine Short Suplee of Wilmington, Kathleen Dobson Watson of Townsend and James H. Baxter of Georgetown; a niece, Virmadel Johnson Wilson of Lewes; and many friends everywhere.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardesty's Funeral Home, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville.
Burial will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery.

Grace S. Breeser, 91
DOVER - Grace S. Breeser of Dover died Wednesday, April 15, 1998 in Westminster Health Center, Dover. She was 91.
Mrs. Breeser was born July 28, 1906, in Marydel, Md., to the late Norman and Maggie Seward.
She retired at age 65 from Ernst & Ernst Trust Co. in Philadelphia after 25 years of service.
Mrs. Breeser was a former member of the Duck Creek Historical Society and Friends of Old Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Breeser, May 29, 1980, and by her sister, Lola Shinn.
She is survived by a niece, Louise Sherwin of Dover; and two grand-nieces, Carolyn Bailey and Penny Gibbs.
Graveside services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
Arrangements are by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.
Lena Brown, 72
PATERSON, N.J. - Lena Brown of Paterson, formerly of Dover, Del., died Sunday, April 12, 1998. She was 72.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Dover and had resided in Paterson for many years.
She was a cook for the Eastside High School in Paterson. She was a member of the Elks Lodge in Dover and the Serenity Baptist Church in Paterson, where she sang in the Senior Choir.
She is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Scruggs of Paterson and Melinda Evans and Laura Waters, both of Dover; two sisters-in-law, Helen Gibson of Dover and Anna Mae Gibson of Georgia; a brother-in-law, Roosevelt Scruggs; an adopted daughter, Evelyn Tolson of Magnolia; a godson, Lamar Hayer; a devoted companion, Augustus Little of Paterson; two best friends, Ruth Moody and Christine Johnson, both of Paterson; and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be 8 p.m. today at the Community Baptist Church of Love, Paterson, and at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may call one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Albert Dickerson, 60
LEWES - Albert Dickerson of Lewes died of pneumonia Sunday, April 12, 1998, in the Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes. He was 60.
Mr. Dickerson was born in Wilmington in 1938.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Carey's Cemetery, near Millsboro.
Friends may call from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro.
William Thomas Simpler, 72
MILTON - William Thomas Simpler of Milton died of acute respiratory distress syndrome Sunday, April 12, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 72.
Mr. Simpler was born in 1925, in Delmar.
He worked as a lineman and serviceman for Delmarva Power for 20 years, and retired in 1977.
Mr. Simpler was a 32nd Degree Mason and past master of Jefferson Lodge 15, Lewes; a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Response Team; and a member of the Delaware Bee Keepers Association, Sussex County.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jane Sue Swain Simpler of Milton; five sons, Michael D. Simpler of Milton, William F.A. 'Andy' Simpler of Rehoboth Beach, Frank Secksinski of Bethany Beach, Thomas I. Simpler of New Castle and James E. Simpler of Felton; three daughters, Ethel S. Davidson of Felton, Deborah S. Priddy of Rehoboth Beach and Lora S. Wagner of Milton; a sister, Mary E. Spicer of Laurel; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Memorial service and reception will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rehoboth Beach Fire Hall, Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach.
Burial will be private.

Della Mae Parker, 83
HARRINGTON - Della Mae Parker of Harrington died of pneumonia Saturday, April 11, 1998, in the Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 83.
Mrs. Parker was born in Harrington, the daughter of the late Charlie and Ella Anderson.
She was formerly employed as a domestic.
Mrs. Parker was a member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She served as a faithful member until her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Parker, in 1997.
She is survived by four sons, Allen Parker, George E. Parker, Donald Lee Parker and William L. Parker, all of Harrington; three daughters, Hester J. Fryer of Columbia, S.C., Mary E. Harris of Star Hill and Linda J. Casson of Felton; one sister, Lutitia [Letitia] Wright of Milford; three sons-in-law, Johnny Lee Fryer, James Harris, Sr. and Larry Casson; two daughters-in-law, Mary L. Parker of Harrington and Lois Parker of Frederica; two sisters-in-law, Lenora Anderson and Marion Anderson, both of Harrington; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, West Street, Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Friends may also call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church.
The Rev. George Moody will officiate.
Burial will be in the Williamsville Cemetery in Houston.

James L. Sylvester Sr., 53
SMYRNA - James L. Sylvester Sr. of Smyrna died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, in Seattle, Wash. He was 53.
Mr. Sylvester was born in 1944, in Dover, the son of the late Carrol and Helen Meredith Sylvester.
He was a machine operator for General Foods in Dover for 27 years before retiring in 1993, due to disability.
Mr. Sylvester was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Wood Sylvester; two sons, Jimmy Sylvester Jr. of Wilmington and Michael Sylvester of West Decatur, Pa.; one brother, Howard Sylvester of Harrington; three sisters, Ruth Ann Whalen of Clayton, Janet Ennis of Manteo, N.C., and Charlotte Fox of Hartly; and his beloved pet cat, M.T.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, at the corner of West Street & Clayton Avenue, Clayton.

Juanita H. Yarnell, 76
MIDDLETOWN - Juanita H. Yarnell of Middletown died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Yarnell was a homemaker and had worked as a cook at the MOT Senior Center.
She was a member of MOT Senior Center, and past president of the Joppa-Magnolia Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Yarnell, in 1987, and a her son, Donald E. Yarnell, in 1989.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce M. Donohew of Clayton and JoAnn Jamison of Smyrna; two sons, Richard A. and James A., both of Clayton; three sisters, Lanta Shirley of Bel Air, Md., Carleen Roberts of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Kitty Long of East Bend, N.C.; two brothers, Carl Edmonson Jr. of Aberdeen, Md., and Odis Edmonson of Clayton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Sharon Hills Cemetery, west of Dover.
A. Warren Corson, 67
LEWES - A. Warren Corson of Lewes, formerly of Fairhaven, N.J., died of heart failure Tuesday, April 14, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 67.
Mr. Corson was a retired fabric stylist for J.P. Stevens & Co. of New York, N.Y.
He was a member of St. Edmond's Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dolores A. Corson; a son, Warren J. Corson of Dumfries, Va.; three daughters, Karen A. Sandor of Laurel, Md., Kristine M. Arway of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Kathleen M. Zierold of Eatontown, N.J.; a sister, Joan Bonaparte of Paramus, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Jude's Catholic Church, near Lewes, at 10 a.m. Friday.
The Rev. Philip Sheekey will officiate.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road and Del. 24 in Long Neck.
Burial will be in the Conley's Chapel Cemetery, near Angola.
