Helen J. Nielsen, 82

MILFORD - Helen J. Nielsen of Milford died of heart failure Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, in the Milford Center, Milford. She was 82.

Ms. Nielsen was born in Philadelphia, daughter of late Joseph J. and Mary Fleming McNally.

She was a sales clerk with the former Emanuel's, Dover, worked at Steele's Pharmacy, Dover, and was a house mother at Wesley College.

Ms. Nielsen lived in Luther Towers, Dover, for five years and then at the Milford Center for the past two years.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Ryder of Lincoln; a daughter, Joan Marie Bartsch of Harrington; two brothers, James E. McNally Sr. and Joseph J. McNally, both of Gaithersburg, Md.; a sister, Trude M. White of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, Reed and Bradford streets, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Inc., 911 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Frances C. Primaldi, 89

NEW CASTLE - Frances C. Primaldi of New Castle died of cancer Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, in Union Hospital, Elkton, Md. She was 89.

Mrs. Primaldi was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Joseph Primaldi, in 1995.

She is survived by a son, Edward L. Primaldi of New Castle; a daughter, Janet E. Stauffer, with whom she has lived for the last two years; a sister, Mary Barnes of Lewistown, Pa.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Price Hall, Del. 299 West, Middletown.

Friends may call from 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday at the Daniels and Hutchison Funerl Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Burial will be in the Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 625 S. State St., PO Box 7, Dover, DE 19903-0007.

Mildred Robinson Millman, 96

ANGOLA NECK - Mildred Robinson Millman of Angola Neck died of heart failure Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, in Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 96.

Mrs. Millman was born in Lewes, daughter of the late James and Mary Dunn Robinson.

She was a resident of the Millsboro Nursing Home for the past 10 years.

Mrs. Millman was a homemaker.

She was a lifetime member of Conley's U.M. Church, Angola, where she served as pianist for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 1973.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the the Conley's Chapel Cemetery, Angla.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Conley's U.M. Church.

Helen L. Wise, 82

Dover - Helen L. Wise of Dover died of heart failure Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at the Westminster Health Center.

Mrs. Wise was born in 1915 in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of the late Benjamin L. and Margaret L. Evans Johns.

She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover, and the Good Samaritans at Luther Towers.

Mrs. Wise's family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Wise, in 1982.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Cox of Dover and Judy Nelson of Bel Air, Md.; a brother, Clyde of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, Reed street at Bradford Street, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Donations may be made to the East Barn Fund c/o the First Baptist Church of Dover, 301 Walker Road, Dover, DE 19904.

Fannie S. Melvin, 94

LINCOLN - Fannie S. Melvin of Lincoln died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Milford memorial hospital. She was 94.

Mrs. Melvin was born in 1903 in Pennsylvania.

She was an honorary member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Co.

Mrs. Melvin loved life and people. She was an avid gardener of flowers, and enjoyed sending cards and photographing people.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Melvin Sr., in 1960.

She is survived by her son, Herbert W. Melvin Jr., and his wife, Dot, of Lincoln, with whom she lived; three grandsons, Herbert W. Melvin III, Guy W. Melvin and Michael R. Melvin; two granddaughters, Michele Coverdale and Darlene Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milford.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Ladies Auxiliary, Ellendale Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 75, Ellendale, DE 19941, or to the Ellendale United Methodist Church, Main Street, Ellendale, DE 19941.

Martha Culver Hastings, 83

LAUREL - Martha Culver Hastings of Laurel died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998 at LifeCare at Lofland Park in Seaford. She was 83.

Mrs. Hastings was born in Elkton, Md., the daughter of the late Bertha and Harvey Culver.

She retired as a store clerk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson T. Hastings, and a son, Duane 'Bunky' Hastings.

She is survived by a son, Douglas Hastings of Dover; a daughter, Dolores Morgan of Laurel; a brother, Theodore Dunn of Maryland; a sister, Anna Lowe of Redondo Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be private.

Alberta Elizabeth Simpler, 77

LAUREL - Alberta Elizabeth Simpler of Laurel died of heart failure Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998. She was 77.

Mrs. Simpler was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Simpler, several years ago.

She is survived by several cousins, one of whom she lived with and was taken care of by, James Mears, and his wife, Barbara, of Laurel.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today in the Roxana Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Bethel Tabernacle Church, Route 1, Box 90-B, Frankford, DE 19945.

John H. Niblet, 86

LEWES - John H. Niblet of Lewes died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Harrison House in Georgetown. He was 86.

Mr. Niblet was born in 1911 in Lewes, the son of the late William Henry Niblet and Lula Mae Futcher.

He retired in 1972 after 37 years with the Maintenance Division, Department of Mental Hygiene, State of New York, in Thielis, N.Y.

Mr. Niblet was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1993.

He is survived by two brothers, William Niblet of Delmar, Md., and Carl 'Dick' Niblet of Georgetown; and two sisters, Rose Stephenson of Delmar, Md., and Anna Betts of Berlin, Md.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton.

Margaret Rush, 72

REHOBOTH BEACH - Margaret Rush of Rehoboth Beach died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1998, at the Beebe Medical Center. She was 72.

Mrs. Rush was born in 1925, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of the late Carl Anderson and Jean Harrower.

Mrs. Rush had served as secretary of the SeaBreeze Home Owners Association for 10 years, and was a volunteer at the Rehoboth Beach Library.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Edward L. Rush of Rehoboth Beach; a nephew, Jimmie Perkins of Seattle, Wash.; and a niece, Peggy Kochevar of Bakersfield, Calif.

Service and burial will be private.

Donations may be made to your favorite charity.

Paul Andrew Bratten, 72

MILTON - Paul Andrew Bratten of Milton died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, in the Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 72.

Mr. Bratten was born in Girdletree, Md., son of the late Rev. Lawrence Bratten and Pearline Finney Bratten.

He was employed by the Wagamon Brothers-Beacon Feed Mill in Milton; he retired from Paramount (Cargill Poultry), Harbeson in 1988; and for the past five years was employed with Pep-Up.

Mr. Bratten was a member of the Mt. Zion Holy Church, Milton for 50 years, where he served as Trustee for the past 27 years, served as a PTA officer and member of the Board of Trustee, Milton School 196-C until 1966.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Myanna Laverne Bratten; a brother, Lawrence Bratten; and a sister, Mary Finney.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evangelist Viola Bratten; 11 children, Rachel A. Bratten of Milton, Amos L. Bratten of Harbeson, Elder Elmer A. Bratten of Dover, Arlene O. Young of Pittsburgh, Lola M. Phillips of Dover, Rosemary J. Waples of Philadelphia, Timothy O. Bratten of Hanover, Md., Elvira R. Briscoe of Philadelphia, Alice D. Mullen of Millsboro, Isabelle L. Davis of Wilmington, and Gerald L. Bratten of Dover; five sisters, Elsie Frazier Yasin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Beulah Bratten, Grace Wise, Mabel Johnson and Catherine Bishop, all of Pocomoke; four brothers, Charles Bratten and Edward Bratten, both of Snow Hill, Md., William Bratten of Berlin and Jessie Bratten of Selbyville; three daughter-in-laws, Georganne Bratten of Harbeson, Peggy Ann Bratten of Dover and Mitzi Bratten of Dover; five son-in-laws, Winfred Young of Pittsburgh, Larry Waples of Philadelphia, Michael Briscoe of Philadelphia, Anthony Mullen of Millsboro and William Davis of Wilmington; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be noon Saturday at the Mt. Zion Holy Church, Milton.

Friends may call 1 -3:30 p.m. Friday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, West Division Street, Dover, and 7-9 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Holy Church, Front Street, Milton.

Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.
