MILFORD - Myrtle Doretha Shockley Lee of Milford died of an aneurysm Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 63.
Mrs. Lee was born Oct. 27, 1935, in Snow Hill, Md., the daughter of Mable Shockley of Milton.
She worked in environmental services at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Reginald Shockley; and her husband, Shepard Lee, Aug. 6, 1996.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Philip Lee of Seaford and Edward Lee of Milford; two brothers, Samuel Shockley of Milford and James Shockley of Millsboro; a sister, Martha Shockley of Milton; five sisters-in-law, Levonia Holmes and Nora Bowie, both of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Nellie Fashow and Selena Bradley, both of Delray Beach, Fla., and Joyce Shockley of Milford; an uncle, George Mills of Baltimore; three aunts, Aurelia Mills of Baltimore, Bertha Hanzer of Milton and Beulah Shockley of Philadelphia; and nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Donald 'Biscuit' Messick, 75
DELMAR, Md. - Donald 'Biscuit' Messick of Delmar died of complications of a stroke Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in his home. He was 75.
Mr. Messick was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Perry Rache Messick and Lillian Virginia Woodward Messick.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater on the USS Elmore, and was involved in seven major battles.
Mr. Messick worked for Delmarva Power Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He had started as a lineman in Pocomoke City; then worked as a service man in Princess Anne; and in Snow Hill was promoted to district manager, a position he also held in Kent Island, Federalsburg, Denton, Cambridge and, finally, Salisbury.
He was a Life Member of the Vingt Cinq (25) Club at Delmarva Power; a life member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Co., where he was past president, chief and ambulance captain; a past president of the Caroline County Firemen's Association and in their Hall of Fame; a past president of the Denton Rotary Club and the past district secretary for Rotary; a past director of Civil Defense for Somerset and Caroline counties; a past president of the Princess Anne Jaycees; a past scoutmaster in Princess Anne, and a former district Scouting commissioner and district chairman of the Boy Scouts, from whom he had received the Order of Merit; a past chairman of the March of Dimes in Caroline County; and past president of the Princess Anne Little League, the Princess Anne Softball League and the Princess Anne Lions Club. He also was a past commissioner and a past mayor of the town of Denton.
Additionally, Mr. Messick was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Denton; a past worshipful master of Manokin Lodge 106, AF & AM, and past patron of the Manokin Order of the Eastern Star 109, both in Princess Anne; a member of the Boumi Shrine Temple, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Salisbury B.P.O. Elks; and a member of the Delmar Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a life member of Dorchester American Legion Post 91 and a past commander of Caroline American Legion Post 29 and the O.T. Beauchamp Jr. American Legion Post in Somerset County. He was a member of the American Legion for 52 years and a counselor for its Boys State for 39 years. He was the 1985-86 Department of Maryland Commander of the American Legion, having also served as the North Eastern Shore District Commander. He was an alternate National Executive Committee member for the American Legion one year and was a National Executive Committee member the following year.
Mr. Messick was a volunteer at the V.A. Center in Cambridge, and directed the van transportation service to Perry Point Veterans Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel H. Messick of Delmar; two daughters, Margaret M. Collison of Campbellsville, Ky., and Donna M. Fretterd of Denton; two brothers, Robert Messick of Federalsburg and Kenneth Messick of Hurlock; six sisters, Gladys Nepert of Preston, Clara Mae Evans, Shirley Abbott and Ann Slacum, all of Cambridge, Nancy Ressler of Hummelstown, Pa., and Janet Hurley of Hurlock; six grandchildren, James Collison III, Melissa Mings, Daniel Collison, Duane Fretterd, Wayne Fretterd Jr. and Dana Fretterd; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fifth and Franklin streets, Denton.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St., Denton, where there will be a closing Masonic service.
Burial will be in the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock.

Eleanor Jane Milligan Moore, 78
SEAFORD - Eleanor Jane Milligan Moore of Seaford died of cancer Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in Life Care at Lofland Park, Seaford. She was 78.
Mrs. Moore was born in Seaford, the daughter of the late George Washington Milligan and Pearl Mildred Otwell Milligan.
She had worked at the DuPont Co.'s nylon plant in Seaford from 1939-1947. Later, she worked at the Nylon Capital Credit Union for 17 years, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Moore was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she was active on the Altar Guild.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Philip Clay Moore Sr.; and two sons, Dail B. Moore and Philip C. Moore Jr., both of Washington, D.C.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Front Street, Seaford, with the Rev. Jeanne W. Kirby officiating.
Burial will be private.

Carol Ann Porter, 54
HARRINGTON - Carol Ann Porter of Harrington died after a long battle with cancer, Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in her home. She was 54.
Mrs. Porter graduated from Harrington High School in 1962.
She had a career in journalism spanning 18 years. Readers enjoyed her personal journalism with such things as People Profiles. She retired as editor of the Harrington Journal in July 1998.
Mrs. Porter received many journalism awards during her career, including Independent Newspaper Inc.'s Jim Miller Excellence Award for 1997. She also won the award of Editor of the Year for Small Publications when the Harrington Journal was owned by Chesapeake Publishing. In the midst of her illness, she even found time to be the keynote speaker at the Harrington Heritage Day Celebration in 1997.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Kaye Moore Tubbs, in October 1993.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, William H. Porter; two sons, William J. Porter of Felton and Jay A. Porter of Harrington; her parents, Klein and Genevieve Moore of Harrington; a brother, Rick Moore of Clarks Summit, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Brittany Porter of Harrington and Eric Porter of Felton.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Herman J. Baker, 77
BISHOPVILLE, Md. - Herman J. Baker of Bishopville died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. He was 77.
Mr. Baker was born in Bishop, the son of the late Carl H. and Katie Davis Baker.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Baker was a cashier at the Bishopville Bank, Bishopville, from 1949-1973; then, he was the branch manager of the Calvin B. Taylor Banking Co. branch at 142nd Street, Ocean City, for 13 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Boggs-Disharoon American Legion Post 123, Berlin, and a member of Mason-Dixon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7234, Ocean View, Del. For many years, he oversaw the operation of Bishopville Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Campbell Baker of Bishopville; a daughter, Marcia B. Brown of Dover, Del.; two grandchildren, Hays J. Grapperhaus and Alexandra Goodwin; and a great-grandson, McKale Goodwin. Also, he was expecting a great-granddaughter in February.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hastings Funeral Home, 19 S. Main St., Selbyville, Del., with the Rev. Carol Price and the Rev. Everett Isaacs officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Bishopville Cemetery, Bishopville.

Edward L. 'Buddy' Dove Jr., 87
DENTON, Md. - Edward L. 'Buddy' Dove Jr. of Denton died of natural causes Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Denton. He was 87.
Mr. Dove was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Anne Arundel County, the son of the late Edith V. Anderson and Edward L. Dove Sr.
He was self-employed as a tobacco farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Tucker) Dove.
He is survived by two brothers, William Dove of Denton and Alfred Dove of Millington; and two sisters, Eleanor Turner of Fort Washington and Edith Fuss of Stevensville.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.
Dr. Gloria I. Genuino, 65
GEORGETOWN - Dr. Gloria I. Genuino of Georgetown died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 65.
Dr. Genuino was born in the Philippines.
She graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1957.
Dr. Genuino was a veterinarian, and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a veterinary medical officer inspecting poultry at Townsends Inc.
She was a member of the National Association of Federal Veterinarians, the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association and St. Michael's Catholic Church, Georgetown.
She is survived by two daughters, Racquel Genuino and Regina Genuino, both of Georgetown; and a sister, Dr. Teresita Ronquillo of Detroit.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Georgetown.
Friends may call from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
Charles Jacob Kibler, 83
COLUMBIA, Md. - Charles Jacob Kibler of Columbia died of natural causes Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Vantage House, Columbia. He was 83.
Mr. Kibler was born June 20, 1915, in Greensboro, the son of the late George Joseph and Katharine Hammer Kibler.
He was a 1932 graduate of Greensboro High School. He received his B.S. degree from St. John's College, Annapolis, and his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.
Mr. Kibler had worked for Eastman Kodak of Kingsport, Tenn., as a chemist, and was retired.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Westcott Kibler; two sons, William M. Kibler of Austin, Texas, and Charles J. Kibler II of Edgewood, Md.; two daughters, Mary Kibler Reynolds of Huntsville, Ala., and Barbara R. Kibler of Roslindale, Mass.; two brothers, George Kibler of Dayton, Ohio, and Clarence Kibler of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Vantage House, Columbia.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Ridgely.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Greensboro.

Benjamin Jordan, 66
Stevensville, Md. - Benjamin Jordan of Stevensville died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at North Arundel General Hospital, Glen Burnie. He was 66.
Mr. Jordan was born on April 16, 1932, in Hobart, Ind., son of the late William and Hanna Walters Jordan.
He attended Glen Burnie High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the USS Intreprid.
On Oct. 1, 1955, he married Elizabeth Jane Frye of Glen Burnie.
Mr. Jordan was a supervisor for General Refectories of Baltimore for 27 years and with Anne Arundel County, as a pumping station operator from 1977 until 1994, when he retired.
Mr. Jordan was a member of the Centerville Lodge 180, A.F.& A.M., a member of the American Legion Post 278, a life member of the Cape St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Co. He was to be inducted into the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen's Association Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Jordan in 1997, Thomas Jordan in 1976 and David Jordan in 1996.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Donald Jordan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard N. Jordan of Stevensville; a daughter, Shirley A. Lafollette of Stevensville; a brother, William Jordan of Stevensville; and eight grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kent Island United Methodist Church in Chester.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home P.A. in Chester.
Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.

Edna B. Starkey, 84
DOVER - Edna B. Starkey of Dover died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 84 years old.
Mrs. Starkey was the daughter of the late Thomas Blackiston and Henrietta Harris.
She worked as a store clerk for J.C. Penney Co. for many years.
She enjoyed cooking and working in the garden.
Mrs. Starkey was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover, where she enjoyed doing volunteer work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Starkey, in 1986.
She is survived by a brother, Woodrow Blackiston of Chestertown, Md.; and nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Drive, Dover, where friends may call one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, Md.
