Doug C. Manchester, 45

FELTON - Doug C. Manchester of Felton died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, in his home. He was 45.

Mr. Manchester graduated from Dover High School in 1976.

He retired from the United States Army.

He retired from Department of Correction in Smyrna, with the K-9 unit.

He was preceded in death by his father, Master Sgt. Maurice Manchester in 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Manchester; his mother, Doris Robinson Manchester and stepfather, Ernest Crist of Downs Chapel; a brother, Donald Manchester of Harrington; two sisters, Joanne Leager of Downs Chapel and Lin Lancon of Houston, Texas. His two K-9 dogs, Major and King, were his children.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park.

William H. Soots Jr., 68

REHOBOTH BEACH - William H. Soots Jr. of Rehoboth Beach died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at his home. He was 68.

Mr. Soots was born July 20, 1930, in Indianapolis, Ind.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army, retiring in 1952.

He was a television technician. He owned and operated Bills TV Shop for many years retiring in 1990.

Mr. Soots was a member of the Lewes Presbyterian Church, Kings Highway, Lewes.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Jane Soots; three sons, Randy Soots of Lewes, Rusty Soots of Rehoboth Beach and Reagan Soots of Jacksonville, Fla; a daughter, Peggy Shockley of Lewes; a stepson, Roger Young of Rehoboth Beach; two brothers, Roy Soots of Lewes and Bob Soots of Indianapolis; two sisters, Helen Patton and Sandy Naylor, both of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewes Presbyterian Church, Kings Highway, Lewes. The Rev. Harry Hughes will officiate

Burial will be in Lewes Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Lewes Presbyterian Church,

Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958 or Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 North DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Arrangement are by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.

James J. Riccio, 82

HENDERSON, Md. - James J. Riccio of Henderson, formerly of Wilmington until 1972, died of natural causes Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82.

Mr. Riccio was born July 17, 1916 in Wilmington, son the of late Michael and Mary Riccio.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

He worked for Gulf Oil of Wilmington as a truck driver for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Taylor Riccio in 1972 and a great-granddaughter, Amanda McMullen in 1985.

He is survived by a daughter, Johanna Master of Hartly; two granddaughters, Pamela Dodge of Greensboro, Md., and Kimberly Espil of Hartly; a great-grandson, Mathew Espil of Hartly and a faithful companion, Anna May Squire of Henderson.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home with closing prayers at 8:45 p.m.

Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

The family suggests contributions be made to Immaculate Conception Church, P.O. Box 126, Marydel, MD 21649.

Bernice L. Seabrease, 77

LEWES - Bernice L. Seabrease died of congestive heart failure Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in the Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes. She was 77.

Mrs. Seabrease worked as a nurse's aide with Beebe Hospital, Lewes and later as a seamstress for Dressco Corporation, Lewes, retiring in 1976.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton P. Seabrease in 1975.

She is survived by four sons, Carlton D. Seabrease of Harbeson, Ralph A. Seabrease of Ramseur, N.C., Donald L. Seabrease of Bridgeville and James E. Seabrease of Ocean View; a sister, Shirley Macey of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.

James Orem Rhodes, 86

CENTREVILLE, Md. - James Orem Rhodes of Centerville died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was 86.

Mr. Rhodes was born Sept. 27, 1912, in Winchester, the son of the late James B. and Mary Johnson Rhodes.

He attended Stevenville High School.

He ran a gas station in Grasonville in 1933 until World War II began.

He married Marguerite Coursey of Grasonville, in 1934 and worked for Fry & Son as a fork lift operator and later for US Trucking Company of Jessup until retiring in 1976, then returning to the Eastern Shore. He moved to Denton in 1978.

He was preceded in death by his wife, on Jan. 12, 1996 and a son, James E. Rhodes in April 1969.

He is survived by a son, Ray D. Rhodes of Cambridge; three grandsons, James 'Jimbo' Rhodes of Queen Anne, Dean Rhodes of Gransonville and Chad Horney of Stevensville; a granddaughter, Donna Collins of Cambridge; a daughter-in-law, Jeannette Horney of Starr and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Glen Haven Cemetery, Glen Burniet, Md.

Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 408 South Liberty Street, Centreville, MD 21617.

Josephine E. Williams, 58

PHILADELPHIA - Josephine E. 'Big Red' Williams of Philadelphia died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in Philadelphia Hospital. She was 58.

Mrs. Williams was born Sept. 10, 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph and Patricia White.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Williams enjoyed playing spades and doing crossword puzzles.

She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, 11 West Morland St., Philadelphia.

She is survived by two daughters, Juanita E. McDonald, of Dover, and Gwendolyn Williams, of Philadelphia; three sisters, Ruthie, Joanne and Jeannett, all of Philadelphia; two brothers, Leon and Joseph White, both of Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Walter Kimble.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Marian A. Harris, 89

ARMONK, N.Y. - Marian A. Harris of Armonk, formerly of Harrington, Del., died Saturday in her home. She was 89.

Mrs. Harris was a homemaker. She was a retired licensed practical nurse and had worked from 1950 to 1960 at Wilmington General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Harris, in 1976.

She is survived by a daughter, Eileen Laurence of Armonk; a brother, Kenneth Hopkins of Milford; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m.

Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contribution be made to Deacon's Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 31 Bedford Road, Katonah, NY 10536.

Edna Mark, 98

DOVER - Edna Mark of Dover, died Friday Oct. 23, 1998, in Silver Lake Center, Dover. She was 98.

Born in Bayonne, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary Hines Crutchley.

An accomplished artist, Mrs. Mark had taught art in the Jersey City, N.J., area for most of her life until her retirement in 1980, at which time she moved to Dover. Her art work was often displayed in the Jersey Journal Building, Journal Square, Jersey City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert I. Mark, in 1979.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Anna May Mark of Milford; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and her faithful friend, Monty Gusberg of Dover.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m.

Burial will be private.

Rodney 'Short' Miller, 98

DOVER - Rodney 'Short' Miller of Dover, died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Capital Healthcare Services, Dover. He was 98.

Mr. Miller was the son of the late Alexander and Salley Miller.

During Rodney's youthful years, he lived in Wilmington; Elkton, Md., and Glasgow.

Most of Mr. Miller's employment was farm labor, until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Walden Miller Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Clara V. Miller of Dover; two sons, Donald Miller of Wilmington and Aaron Miller of Lebanon; a daughter, Phyllis Berry Scott of Dover; two daughters-in-law, Bernice and Elizabeth Mitchell of Wilmington; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service will be 7 p.m. today at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be Wednesday at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Violet Johnson Greenfield

PHILADELPHIA - Violet Johnson Greenfield of Philadelphia, died of chronic heart failure Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.

Violet was born in Harrington June 20, 1905, to the late Sarah Johnson.

Her childhood years were happily spent in Delaware. Her early adult years were spent working as a domestic in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York for restaurants and such people as the renowned conductor Mitch Miller and singer Leslie Uggams.

She later lived with her husband, the late Adam H. Greenfield Jr., in Philadelphia. Debilitating complications from several strokes and heart failure relocated Violet back to Delaware, where she resided in Milford Genesis Eldercare Center until her death.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Olin Johnson; a sister, Leatha Johnson and a niece, Catherine Waters.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Daniel Coleman of Harrington; a son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Celeste Johnson of Pittsburgh, Calif.; five grandchildren, Denise, Glenda, Tonya, Fonda and Leslie; a grandson-in-law, Reggie; six great-grandchildren, Tylisha, Andrea, Marie, Missy, ZarWayna and William; a great-great-granddaughter, Carla; and a host of cousins and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul A.M.E Church, 103 W. Mispillion St., Harrington.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at St. Paul Church.

Burial will be in Williamsville Cemetery.
