Norma Rose Verrecchio Angeloni

NEWARK - Norma Rose Verrecchio Angeloni, 'Mrs. A,' of Newark, formerly of Philadelphia, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Angeloni, 'Mr. A.'

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Michael Angeloni and Gary Angeloni, both of Delaware; a daughter, Carol Angeloni-Monjon, of Delaware; three sisters, Clara D'Agostino, Armand 'Babe' Verrecchio and Amedio Verrecchio, all of Philadelphia; a brother, Albert 'Baba' Verrecchio, of California; two granddaughters, Erin and Stephanie; and four grandsons, Michael, Matthew, James and Joseph.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Church, Chestnut Hill and Gender roads, Newark, where friends may call two-and-one-half hours before the service.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713, in Norma's memory.

Charles R. Hammer Jr., 79

CLAYTON - Charles R. Hammer Jr. of Clayton died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in Wilmington Hospital, Wilmington. He was 79.

Mr. Hammer was born March 10, 1919, in Harriston, Va., son of the late Charles and Gertrude V. Hammer.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples, Faggia, North Appenines, Southern France, Rhineland and Central European battles and campaigns. He was decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, the Croix de Guerre with Palm, the Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, and a Presidential Citation with Cluster.

After the service, he worked as an electrician doing general wiring.

Mr. Hammmer was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3B. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8801, Clayton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Hammer of Hartly; and a grandchild.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Faith Baptist Church, Del. 300, Bryn Zion, Smyrna.

George R. Green, 75

EASTON, Md. - George R. Green of Easton died of natural causes Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 75.

Mr. Green was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Robert J. and Bertha Gray Green.

He is survived by a devoted niece, Doris Boyd, of Washington; numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins; a devoted neighbor, Gladys Ellton; and a host of friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. today at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 426 Dover St., Easton, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Beulah.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made c/o Doris Boyd, 130 Higgins St., Easton, MD.

Lindsay Darcel Keene, 45

EASTON, Md. - Lindsay Darcel Keene of Easton died of natural causes Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 45.

Mr. Keene was born July 2, 1953, in Easton, the son of Lucy C. Thomas Keene of Easton and the late Preston E. Keene.

He was educated in the Talbot County school system.

Mr. Keene worked as a cook for various restaurants.

He attended St. Paul U.M. Church, Royal Oak.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Keene.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Preston Keene Jr. of Cambridge and Larry Keene of Preston; two sisters, Barbara Keene of College Park and Yvonne Miles of Salisbury; and a host of other family and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at St. Luke U.M. Church, Bellevue.

Calling hours were Monday.

Burial will be in Royal Oak Cemetery.

Charles T. Morris Sr., 78

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Charles T. Morris Sr. of Deerfield Township died after having been in declining health for three-and-a-half years, Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in the South Jersey Hospital System-Bridgeton Division. He was 78.

Mr. Morris was born in Millsboro, Del., the son of the late Frank Norwood and Sara Morris.

He had lived in Deerfield Township for 25 years, and prior to that had lived in Hopewell Township.

Mr. Morris was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.

He had been a shop steward with the former Cross Transportation Co., Bridgeton, for 25 years; had then been vice president of Teamsters Local 676 in Vineland and Collingswood; and had retired 11 years ago.

Mr. Morris was a member of the Nanticoke Indian Association of Millsboro; Teamsters Local 676, Collingswood; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Vineland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Berry and Sylvia Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Loatman Morris; five sons, Charles T. Morris Jr. of Deerfield Township, Frank S. Morris of Washington Township, Brent Morris of Deerfield Township, Alan W. Morris of Las Vegas and Dennis E. Morris of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a brother, Urie Morris of Bridgeton; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Service was held Oct. 24 in Bridgeton.

Burial was in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township.

Earl R. Scheidt, 76

DOVER - Earl R. Scheidt of Dover died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 76.

Mr. Scheidt was born May 18, 1922, in Kutztown, Pa., the son of the late George and Mary Scheidt.

He was a graduate of Kutztown University with a bachelor's degree in education.

Mr. Scheidt served in the U.S. Army Infantry in World War II, receiving the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.

He taught in the Caesar Rodney School District until 1965. At that time, he started Dover Graphics, owning and operating it until 1990. He also owned and operated EZ Photo and Photofinishing on Dover Graphics' property.

Mr. Scheidt was a charter member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Dover; was one of three founders of the Kent County Theatre Guild and was a member of Elks Lodge 1903.

He enjoyed the theater, and loved to read, watch television and work on his computer.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet R. Scheidt of Dover.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 425 N. DuPont Highway, Dover.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his name to any charity of one's choice or to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 425 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Jerry A. Shields, 63

DOVER - Jerry A. Shields, a major environmental figure and author, died after a short illness, Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, in his home. He was 63.

Dr. Shields was born March 24, 1935, in Goldsboro, N.C., the son of the late Phin and Josie Shields. He grew up in Kernersville, N.C.

He earned an A.B. and an M.A. in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English from Duke University, Durham, N.C.

Dr. Shields taught at Slippery Rock State College, Slippery Rock, Pa., and moved to Dover in 1972, where he taught various disciplines at Wesley College, Delaware State College, Wilmington College and the University of Delaware.

He began his second career as a writer in 1978, and was the author of three books: 'Doctors on the New Frontier,' with William Hoffman, the first book by Americans to be reprinted in the People's Republic of China since 1949; 'The Invisible Billionaire: Daniel Ludwig,' an acclaimed biography of shipping magnate Daniel Ludwig; and 'Gath's Literary Work and Folk,' a biography of George Arthur Townsend, a famed Civil War journalist, which, in 1997, won a first place in the National Federation of Press Women's contest.

Besides writing many newspaper and magazine articles, Dr. Shields was active in numerous campaigns to protect the environment. He testified over 100 times before U.S. House of Representatives' subcommittees on a wide range of environmental issues, and was a driving force in getting the state Coastal Zone Act implemented.

He was actively involved in the drive for a new building to expand the State Archives and, at the time of his death, he was chairman of two environmental organizations, Watch Our Waterways and The Greenwatch Institute. He also was working on a new book about Patty Cannon, the infamous Delaware slave trader and murderer.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Tiffany-Shields of Dover; two sons, Shannon Shields of Florida and Steven Shields of Washington state; a stepson, Marcus Northrup of Dover; a stepdaughter, Kay Marie Webster of Nebraska; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Anna Layton Tatman, 92

SEAFORD - Anna Layton Tatman of the Methodist Manor House, Seaford, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, in her home. She was 92.

Mrs. Tatman was born in Bridgeville, and had lived in Wilmington from 1926-1973, when she moved into the Methodist Manor House.

She was a graduate of Bridgeville High School and attended Goldey College, Wilmington.

Mrs. Tatman was employed as an accountant with the Braunstein Stores, Wilmington, for almost 40 years. She retired in 1968.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Seaford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston I. Tatman, in 1954.

She is survived by two nephews.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, Seaford or to Methodist Manor House, Seaford.

Charles T. 'Bud' Arbogast, 85

DELMAR - Charles T. 'Bud' Arbogast of Delmar died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in his daughter's home. He was 85.

Mr. Arbogast was born in Freemansburg, W.Va., the son of the late Prior W. and E. Malissa Arbogast.

He was a welder, retiring from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Joiners and Millwrights Local 2012 of Seaford. He had previously worked for C.C. Oliphant in Laurel as a welder.

Mr. Arbogast was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Laurel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances S. Arbogast, in 1992; and by a brother, Herman H. Arbogast.

He is survived by a son, Charles L. Arbogast of Delmar; two daughters, Jane A. Shaffer of Salisbury, Md., and Jeanne A. Blazejak of Delmar; three sisters, Surelia 'Sallie' Currey and Mary K. Sinclair, both of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Sylvia 'Tib' Gum of Weston, W.Va.; six granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Linda A. Calloway of Laurel; and several other nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, with the Rev. Ronald Parker and the Rev. Joel Beiler officiating.

Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Bethel.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802; or to Delaware Hospice, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

William Franklin 'Zack' Bolden, 80

FEDERALSBURG, Md. - William Franklin 'Zack' Bolden of Federalsburg died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in his home. He was 80.

Mr. Bolden was born April 6, 1918, in Finchville in Dorchester County, the son of the late Reuben H. and Nettie Hill Bolden.

He was a veteran of World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Army, eventually attaining the rank of technical sergeant.

Mr. Bolden worked for many years for the E.I. du Pont Co. in Seaford, first as a groundskeeper and later inside the plant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Linwood Evans, Lester H. Bolden and Watson O. Bolden; and two sisters, Ina V. Sudler and Marjorie G. Collins.

He is survived by his wife of many years, Barbara Ricketts Bolden; six children, Shirley A. Evans of Finchville, Vanessa A. Elliott of Seaford, Del., Vance D. West of Easton, Gloria J. Bolden of Seaford, William R. Bolden of Hanover, Pa., and Reuben F. Bolden of Palm Springs, Calif.; two brothers, Oswald Bolden of Denton and Harold B. Bolden of Hurlock; a sister, Minerva A. Jones of Greenwood, Del.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home P.A., Federalsburg, with the Rev. Vanessa Lee officiating.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Caroline County Hospice Foundation, PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
