RITA BRITTON

Mrs. Rita Britton, age 94 OF Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Britton was born on Dec. 9, 1912 in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of the late Digby Megginson and the late Myrtle Nelms Megginson. She was preceded in death by a son, Bob Britton and a brother, Cliff Megginson. Not only was Mrs. Britton a very loving wife and mother, also a friend to all who knew her. She was an Angel in her families eyes. She was always gracious, generous and had a kind soul. Mrs. Britton was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Britton are loving husband of sixty eight years, Norman Britton of Britton of Blairsville, three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Judy Britton of Blairsville, Don and Ann Britton of Blairsville, Ted and Bill Britton of Pacifica, CA., daughter-in-law, Mary Britton of Portage La Prairie, six grandchildren, Linda Langman, Diane Enns, Jonanthan, David, Vince and Jeff Britton, fourteen great grandchildren, Alisha, Cara and Jenaya Langman, Amy, Casandra, Alice and Emmy Britton, Jana, Ryan and Nolan Enns, Denae, Rhett, Jack and Chris Britton, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill Honaker officiating. Special music will be presented by the House of Prayer Church choir. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Doug, Don and Ted Britton, Bill Hisinger, Jeff Jefferson and Joe Walker. Interment will follow in the House of Prayers church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the House of Prayer Missions in Mrs. Britton’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12-2:00pm.

ISAAC WILLIAM TAYLOR

Mr. Issac William Taylor, age 59 of Andrews, NC. formerly of Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Taylor was born on Oct. 20, 1947 in Seamen, OH., the son of the late James Edgar Taylor and the late Jaley Elizabeth Rose Taylor. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War. Isaac loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Doc and Troy Taylor. Mr. Taylor was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Taylor are his loving wife of thirty four years, Eillen Peer Taylor of Andrews, one son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathy Taylor of Hiawassee, seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Jenifer and James Profitt of Whitesburg, KY., Suzan and Mike Maddin of Blackey, KY., Melissa and Scott Selby of Andrews, NC., Jackie and Donny Patterson of Blairsville, Gail and Robert Howard of Blairsville, Arlene Owensby of Blairsville, Carol and Willy McCall of Bethlehem, PA., one brother, Lowell Taylor of Blairsville, twenty two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at 1:00pm from Pound Mountain, KY., with the Rev. Van Webb officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation in Mr. Taylor’s memory.

RONALD DYER

Mr. Ronald Dyer, age 69 of Weaver Circle Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Dyer was born on Oct. 29, 1937 in Union County, the son of the late Samuel Riley Dyer and the late Ruby Hazel Reid Dyer. He was employed as a Mason by trade and was well known all over the county, especially for his rock laying. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Mr. Dyer was a member of Union Baptist church.

Surviving Mr. Dyer are his loving wife of forty six years, Rachel Harkins Dyer of Blairsville, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Audrey and Frank Reynolds Jr.of Blairsville, Connie (Dyer) and David Key of Young Harris, Tammy Dyer of Blairsville, Jayme and Eric Dills of Young Harris, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Wanda Dyer of Jasper, Donald Dyer of Birmingham, AL., Mark and Mandy Dyer of Blairsville, one sister, Shelby Everett of Blairsville, thirteen grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Riley Dyer, Lucy Ingram, Rachel Dyer, R. L. Key, Cassie, Kevin and Presley Dyer, Jodie Seabolt, Eli Dills, Isiah and Lexie Dyer, five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Special music will be presented by John Nix. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Michael, Chris, Ronnie and Kevin Dyer, Labron Lewicki, R. L. Key, John McKean and Mitchell Ingram. Interment will follow in the Owltown Church of God cemetery.

JEFFERY CARROLL

Mr. Jeffery Carroll, age 42 of Carroll Rd. Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 in the Fannin Regional Hospital following injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Carroll was born on Jan. 11, 1965 in Union County, the son of the late Earl Harvey Carroll and the late Lucy Mae Smith Carroll. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Newman Carroll in 1998.Mr. Carroll was a member of Bethlehem Baptist church.

Surviving Mr. Carroll are four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ralph and Brenda Carroll of Blairsville, David and Diane Carroll of Blairsville, Junior Carroll of Blairsville, Clyde and Donna Carroll of Blairsville, six sisters and brother in laws, Linda and Archie Patterson of Blairsville, Faye and Evin Patterson of Blairsville, Kathy and Donnie Queen of Canton, GA, Cindy and Tommy Queen of Blairsville, Rachel and Steve Woodin of FL, Dale and Jim Pressley of Murphy, NC., several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at 4:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg and Rev. William Sisum officiating. Special music was presented by Hubert Legg and the Faith Singers. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Tim Kirtley, Gary Jones, Willie Kerr, Michael Carroll, Wess Carroll and Darrell Allen. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ray Shook, Alvin Towe, Junior Grahm, Coty Carroll and Skip McKeral. Interment followed in the Dillard Chapel cemetery.

Ruth Palmer

Mrs. Ruth Eleanor Palmer, age 86 of Jones Creek Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Port Ritchie, FL, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Palmer was born on Dec. 31, 1920 in Brockton, MA., the daughter of the late Clarence Garnett and the late Agnus Inquist Garnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Palmer in 2001, one son, William Palmer Jr., A sister, Maraim Day, three brothers, Earl, Clarence Jr. and Ronald Garnett. Mrs. Palmer was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Palmer are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Phillip and Ann Palmer of Sun City, AZ., Marshall Palmer of Abbington, MA., one brother, Neil Garnett of Statesville, NC., one sister, Faith Woods of Plymouth, MA., nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Palmer’s memory.

THEODORE DAVID DIAZ

Theodore "Ted" Diaz, 54, died suddenly at home on January 12, 2007. Ted was an avid gardener, and created an oasis of flowers at his home. He also loved to cook, and served many gourmet meals to friends, as well as professionally, as a caterer. He won several awards for his cooking. Ted was well known for his gifts of cheesecakes and beautiful bouquets of flowers. He was also admired by all who knew him for his incredible courage in face of tremendous adversity. A paraplegic, Ted was passionate about helping children with disabilities. When he lived in California he worked as a coach with these children, and took them to the special Olympics. He was responsible for bringing handicapped games to Union County in 1995.

Ted grew up in New York, lived for a number of years in Berkeley and Oakland, California, and moved to Blairsville almost 25 years ago. He is preceded in death by his mother, Celia Diaz. He leaves behind loved ones Reggie Lenoir and Sheila Wofsy of Suches, and Linda Bryant and Wendy Belkin of Decatur; sister Ceil Diaz of New Jersey; and beloved companion Shorty.

Well known for his generosity, it was Ted’s desire that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to SAFE, the local shelter for abused women and their children, PO Box ?, Blairsville, GA; Heifer International, PO Box 1692, Merrifield, VA 22116-1692, or the Humane Society’s Mountain Shelter, PO Box 1252, Blairsville, GA 30514.

The family of Ted Diaz invites you to join us for a memorial service at his home on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at 11:30am. Rev.Connie Tuttle of Atlanta will officiate. The service will be followed by a pot luck/ covered dish lunch. Please call 706-838-4540 if you need directions or more information.

MICHAEL 'SKIP' WAYNE NELSON

Mr. Michael Wayne Nelson, age 61 of Blairsville formerly of Atlanta passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Nelson was born on May 3, 1945 in Williston, ND., The son of Verna Grimstvedt Nelson and the late Merle Wayne Nelson. Michael was known to his friends as "Skip". He had lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, Sweden, Boston and Atlanta. During his trek, he received his BFA in Direction of Music Theater (after, as he says, " Majoring in Dropping Out") and also a FilMag (equivalent to PhD without thesis) while in Sweden. After twenty eight years of theater and more than one hundred productions, he has more than twenty publications "nuf to qualify me".. Mr. Nelson was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving Mr. Nelson are his mother, Verna Nelson of Blairsville, cousin, Glenyce Bean of St. Paul, MN., several other cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will was held on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Nelson’s memory.

GUY EDWARD REID

Mr. Guy Edward Reid, age 84 of Blairsville formerly of Tucker, GA, passed way on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 in the Clay County Care Center following an extended illness. Mr. Reid was born on July 6, 1922 in Oglethorpe County, GA, the son of the late Lester Reid and the late Sophie Mann Reid. He was a veteran of the US Army and had owned and operated Reid Repair Company in Tucker, GA, for over thirty-five years. He was preceded in death by a son, Ken Reid in 2000 and by his first wife, Florence Sosebee Reid in 1995.He was a member of the VFW and the DAV. Mr. Reid was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Reid are one son and two daughters-in-law, Ray and Debbie Reid of Monroe, GA, Shirley Reid of Snellville, GA, three grandchildren, Justin, Josh and Phoebe, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 at 1:00pm from Branan Lodge. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Wilderness Scouts of Blairsville, Po box 807, Blairsville, GA 30514 in Mr. Reid’s memory.

FREDERICK JOHN WANAMAKER

Mr. Frederick John Wanamaker, age 77 of Blairsville, GA, passed away on January 19, 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Blairsville, son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Kimberly Wanamaker, daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Gary Firestone, daughter, Jannette Villarreal, and also three grandchildren. He leaves behind many kind and caring golfing friends at Butternut Creek Golf Course.

In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Wanamaker’s memory.
