PATRICIA ANN PLOTT

Mrs. Patricia Ann Plott, age 56 of Meadow Lane Young Harris passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at the home of her son following an extended illness. Mrs. Plott was born on Oct. 3, 1950 in Clay County, NC., the daughter of Lawrence Stroud and the late Mamie Lands Stroud. She was a lifelong resident of Towns and Clay Counties. Before her sickness she was a CNA and was a wonderful care giver to the elderly for many years. She was a loving mother and friend to all who knew her. Mrs. Plott was a member of the Shiloh Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Plott are one son, Jeffery Plott of Young Harris, father, Lawrence Stroud of Hayesville, two step children, Jason Woody and Phillip Haines both of young Harris, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Loyd and JoAnn Lands of Hayesville, Johnny and Amanda Stroud of Young Harris, one sister and brother in law, Betty and Lowell Shook of Young Harris, two grandchildren, Presley and Adam Plott, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 at 11:00am from the Shiloh Baptist church with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers, Rev. Clark Moss, Rev. Bill Dyer and Rev. Kyle Cody officiating. Special music will be presented by the Cody Family, Michelle, Adam and Presley Plott, Jeanette Vest, Grapell Thompson, Tammy Miller and L. D. and Irene Buchanan. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Butts, Billy Carney, Junior Chastain, Richard Carswell, Bill Norton, Ellot Arrwood and Bill Kendall. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-8pm, and on Monday evening at the Shiloh Baptist church any time after 6:00pm.

GORDON ALFRED FREEMAN

Mr. Gordon Alfred (better known as Pete) Freeman, age 70 of Daylilly Drive Marble, NC. passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Freeman was born on Aug. 26, 1936 in Norwich, CT., the son of the late Fredrick Alfred Freeman and the late Goldie Mumblow Freeman. He was a veteran of the US Army. He had worked with the Kennedy Space Center for several years. Pete was a member of the Space Coast Street Rods and also the Cars of Brevard. He and his wife loved motorcycles and had traveled all over the country. They also enjoyed collecting and rebuilding old classic cars. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwen Freeman, two infant sons, Peter and John Freeman, son, Peter Alfred Freeman. Mr. Freeman was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Freeman are his loving wife of forty seven years, Alita Marie Haran Freeman of Marble, son and daughter-in-law, John and Mila Freeman of Port St. John, FL, one sister and brother in law, Janet and Dick Bennett of Ellington, CT., two grandchildren, Stephanie and Justin Freeman, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A funeral Mass will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at 11:00am from the Holy Redemption Catholic church with Father Mike officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Freeman’s memory.

JOHN GELPI

Mr. John Gelpi, age 80 of Joal Drive Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Gelpi was born on April 27, 1926 in New York, NY., the son of the late John Gelpi and the late Petra Dabulai Gelpi. He retired from the State of Florida in 1986 where he served as a Maintenance Engineer for several years. Mr. Gelpi was a member of the Grace Community Presbyterian church.

Surviving Mr. Gelpi are his loving wife of thirty six years, Elnor McMue Gepli of Blairsville, four daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet Gelpi of CO., Mary Craig of New Port News, VA., Linda and Donald Smith of Vero Beach, FL, Lynette and Richard Lalka of Huntington, MD., one son and daughter-in-law, John and Carla Davis of S. Fork, PA., eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with Dr. John Grauley officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Grace Community Presbyterian church in Mr. Gelpi’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services.

RAY HARRIS YARRINGTON

Ray Harris Yarrington, age 71 of Blairsville, GA, died February 15, 2007 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was born on Feb. 24, 1935 in Richmond, VA., where he grew up and married Ethel in 1953.Ray and his wife moved to Vero Beach, FL. in 1956, where they raised their four daughters. In 1993 they retired to Blairsville in the Mountains of North Georgia where they enjoyed summer and holiday visits with their daughters families, including six grandchildren.

Surviving are wife, Ethel of Blairsville, daughter, Margaret Yarrington of Blairsville, daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Mark Odum of Roral Palm Beach, FL, daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Donald Plante of Peachtree City, GA, daughter, Linda Yarrington of Fort Mill, SC., brother, Britt Yarrington of Richmond, VA., and six grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Odum, Alex and Amanda Cole and Stephen and Daniel Plante.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel. Ray was cremated following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Blairsville Humane Society in Mr. Yarrington’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 from 6-8pm.

MARCUS RALPH BAGGETT

Mr. Marcus Ralph Baggett, age 79 of Hester Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Baggett was born on March 29, 1927 in Feldsmere, FL, the son of the late William Baggett and the late Martha Bradshaw Baggett. He was employed with the Kennedy Space Center as an Engineer which he was so proud of. He was listed in the Smithsonian Institute as one of the Engineers who worked on the Saturn 5 Space Shuttle and was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assc. Marcus loved his family and church and also loved playing the piano. His Pastor, family and friends compared him to Jimmy Stuart. He was a veteran of the US Air Core of WWII. Mr. Baggett was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ.

Surviving Mr. Baggett are his loving wife of forty one years, Neva Viola Brown Baggett of Blairsville, their children, Donna and Karl Amidon of West Mont, IL., Gary and Cindy Baggett of Joliet, IL., Jeffrey and Tina Baggett of El Paso, IL., Gilda McIntosh of Spring Hill, TN., Frank Guynn of King George, VA., one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Billie Baggett of Denver, CO., one sister and brother in law, Martha and Tom Mier of Lake City, FL, ten grandchildren, Benjamin, Nathan, Melissa, Angie, Amy, Abby, Mollie, Tammy, Paige and Stacy, seven great-grandchildren many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Blairsville Church of Christ with Minister, Terry Stuart, Minister, Aaron Stanley and Mark Cargill officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Mark Cargill, Aaron Stanley, Jake Colwell, Nathan Amidon, Benjamin Amidon and Rusty Logan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group of the Blairsville Church of Christ and the Members of the Experimental Air Craft Assc. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery with the North GA Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8pm.

ELSIE KATHERINE DEAN

Mrs. Elsie Katherine Dean, age 70 of Jones Creek Rd. S. Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Dean was born on April 21, 1936 in Littcarr, KY., the daughter of the late Ted Tolliver and the late Annie Thornsbury Tolliver. She and her husband Glen owned and operated the Georgia Trader, which was located on the Blue Ridge Hwy for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty three years, Glen R. Dean in 1995.Mrs.Dean was a member of New Hope Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Dean are two daughters and one son-in-law, Elinda Mears of Blairsville, Pamela and Danny Matheson of Blairsville, two brothers, Tommy Tolliver of Sevierville, TN., Ewins Tolliver of Ermine, KY., three sisters, Zola Miles of Premium, KY., Geraldine Lowe of Ebeton, KY., Irene McPeeks of Whitesburg, KY., six grandchildren, Glen Santiago, Glen Summerlin, Millie Milagros Santiago, James Mears III, Ernie Cardona Sr., Eric Figurroa, eleven great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Joseph, Kayla, Candice, Marissa, Haley, Ernie, Mariah, Arnold, Joel and Caitlin, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 at 3:00pm from the New Hope Baptist church with the Rev. Leon McDonald and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Special music will be presented by Alice McDonald. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Steve Sexton, Melvin Cantrell, Val Kozik, Randy Pagel, John Robinett and Eric Figurroa. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from6-9pm.

MAXINE H. SIMS

Mrs. Maxine Henderson Sims, age 74 of Rossville, GA, formerly of Blairsville passed away on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 in the Ft. Oglethorpe Nursing Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Sims was born on Feb. 7, 1932 in Union County, the daughter of the late William H. Henderson and the late Onnie Lou Smith Henderson. She had retired from the Signal Knitting Mill of Chattanooga, TN., with over twenty one years of service. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fletcher, Bly, Rayford and Don Henderson, two sisters, Mary Lou Klassen and Susie Cordell. Mrs. Sims was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs.Sims are her loving husband of forty nine years, Harold Sims of Rossville, GA, one brother, Randall Henderson of Blairsville, two sisters, Nina Bible of Chattanooga, Regina Morgan of Rossville, one brother in law, Tom Cordell of Ringold, GA, nieces and nephews, Yvonna Smith and Gail Weaver both of Blairsville, Mike Bible of Ringold, Angie Carter of Chattanooga and Ricky Klassen of Ringold, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 at 1:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. R. L. Martin officiating. Special music will be presented by Moe and Gail Weaver and Heather Henderson. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Tommy Cordell, Mike Bible, Tracy Henderson, Jeff Henderson, John Weaver, Moe Weaver and Ricky Klassen. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home of Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.

BRUNO DOMINICK SURACI

Mr. Bruno Dominick Suraci, age 73 of Deer Run Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Ft. Pierce, FL. passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Suraci was born on April 1, 1933 in Hazelton, PA., the son of the late Dominick Suraci and the late Camille Suraci. He was a veteran of the US Marines of the Korean War. Mr. Suraci attended the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mr. Suraci are his loving wife, Joyce McGeehen Suraci of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Rose Camille and Glen Cappello of Pelham, NY., Julie Suraci of N.Lauderdale, FL, Two sons, Donald Suraci of Holbrook, NY., Dante Sasso of Smith Town, NY., one step son, Ronnie Babinec of Tamarac, FL, three step daughters and son-in-law, Michell and Bill Gernannt of Jacksonville, FL, Mark and Laura Babinec of Hollywood, FL, Melissa and Doug Roberts of Blairsville, one brother, Angelo Suraci of NY., three grandchildren, Frankie Cappello, Dante Sasso Jr., and Kyle Sasso, four step grandchildren, Justin Babinec, Mark Babinec Jr., Zachary Babinec and Michael Gernannt, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at 4:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chris Miller officiating. Special music was presented by Curtis Underwood. Interment and graveside services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY. with Military Honors.

MARK ALAN ROGERS

Dr. Mark Alan Rogers, age 55 of Souther Forest Rd., Blairsville, formerly of Venice, FL, passed away on Wed. March 7, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Rogers was born on Aug. 10, 1951 in Centralia, IL., the son of the late Merle Rogers and the late Jane Reed Rogers. He was a Physician of Chiropractic and had retired in 1996.he was a member of the American Chiropractic Assc. Mark enjoyed motorcycling and RV traveling. Mr. Rogers was a member of the First Christian church in Centralia, IL.

Surviving Dr. Rogers are his loving wife, Judy McVey Rogers of Blairsville, one son, Eric Rogers of Orlando, FL, three step children, Marcie and Joe Guarniere of Venice, FL, Ashley Fussell and Andrew Fussell both of Venice, FL, one brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Marian Rogers of Lees Summit, MO., one sister and brother in law, Eleanor and Ric Allen of Prior Lake, MN., many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 11:00am from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Rogers officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Assc.in Mr. Rogers memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home following the services.
