Helen J. Green, 68, of Osage, Iowa passed away Tuesday evening, April 11, 2006 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center following a brave battle with cancer. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father John Moser officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. There will be a Memorial Visitation at 6:30 PM Monday, April 17th at the Sacred Heart Church Hall with Rosary at 7 PM and Scripture Service and a time for sharing to follow.

Helen is survived by four daughters; Marsha (Mike) Stricker of Orchard, Mary Jo (Steve) Ruehlow of Osage, Marlys (Jim) Wells of Boone, Jackie McManus of Urbandale, and one son, Jim Green, of Philadelphia, PA. Also surviving are five brothers; Bernard (Dorothy) Walter, William (Carolyn) Walter, Jerome (Mary) Walter, Doug (Sue) Walter, Dan (Kathy) Walter, two sisters; Pat Walter, Mary Jane (Richard) Diggins, mother-in law Marge Green, her ten dear grandchildren; Jerad, Shannon, Amber, Ashlyn, Alex, Chloe, Sam, Alyssa, Derek, and Marshal and her one new great-grandchild Austin.

Helen was born Wednesday June 16, 1937 in Austin, MN to Russell and Rose Walter. She graduated form St. Augustine High School in 1955. She married Marshal Green on April 4, 1959 in Austin, MN. He passed away in 2004. Helen worked for many years and retired from Home Trust Bank in Osage. She enjoyed cooking for her children and grandchildren and working in her yard and decorating for the holidays. She was active in Relay-for-Life, the American Cancer Society, and Sacred Heart Church.

Memorials have been established for the Hospice of Northern Iowa and the American Cancer Society. The Cremation Society of Eastern~Central~Western Iowa is assisting with the arrangements.

Helen J. Woods, 69, of Millersburg, Iowa died Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa after a sudden illness. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006 from 5:00 till 7:00 PM at the Millersburg United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the Millersburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at the Zion Cemetery located north of Millersburg. Following the inurnment service lunch will be held back at the Millersburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Marvin Woods of Millersburg; son Mark (Gayle) Woods of South Amana; daughter Mari Woods of Millersburg; and five grandchildren.

Helen Joyce Septer was born September 25, 1936 to Harold and Iva (Wiedemier) Septer in Millersburg, Iowa. She married Marvin Woods on July 2, 1960 in Millersburg, Iowa.

Helen was a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Marengo Hospital.

Memorials may be directed to Millersburg United Methodist Church in Helen’s name.

Mary Jane Lora, 90, Keokuk

Mary Jane Canida Lora, 90, of Keokuk, passed away on Feb. 23, 2017, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Arrangements are pending at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers in Keokuk.

Betty Wolfmeyer, 73, Keokuk

Betty Ruble Wolfmeyer, 73, of Keokuk, passed away with her family by her side Monday morning, Feb. 20, 2017, at her home.

She was born March 10, 1943, in Martinsburg, Ill., to Leslie Ruble Sr. and Edna Fay Woodeard.

She married Leroy J. Wolfmeyer on Oct. 29, 1966, in LaGrange, Mo., and he survives.

Also surviving are her children, daughter Michele (Keith) Urbon of Quincy, Ill., daughter Denise (Jason) Meyer of Dewitt, Ill., and son Gregory (Kandi) Wolfmeyer of Sun Prairie, Wis.; grandchildren, Claire Meyer-Dewitt and Sharon and Leah Wolfmeyer of Sun Prairie; siblings, Kathy Ruble of Bluffs, Ill., Donna Folsom of Griggsville, Ill., Frances Megginson of Woodson, Ill., Idabelle Ruble, Louise Cloninger, George, and Bill Ruble all of Pittsfield, Ill., and Leslie Ruble Jr. of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, and brothers Lee (Art) and Joe Ruble.

Betty attended Pittsfield High School, and after she married Leroy, was a homemaker, which she dearly loved. She enjoyed many things throughout her life including cooking and baking, traveling, gardening, animals, and collecting many different things. Her family was most dear to her, including the many nieces and nephews who were so important to her. She enjoyed family get-togethers where she was always the best hostess.

Betty always had a kind and encouraging word for others, even when she was not feeling her best. Her faith in the Lord sustained her and was evident to those around her. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, with burial to follow in Burbridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Burbridge Cemetery or American Cancer Society.

Edythe Barnes, 93, Keokuk

Edythe May Slater Barnes, 93, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, in her daughter’s home in Keokuk.

Services will be held later this spring.

DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Norvell, 77, Keokuk

Margaret G. Norvell, 77, of Keokuk, passed away on Feb. 16, 2017, at her home in Keokuk.

Margaret was born on Sept. 19, 1939, in Keokuk, the daughter of Ralph P. and Marie Kay Hall.

She was united in marriage to Calvin Spurgeon and later to Malloy Norvell. Her dear loved friend and partner was Joseph Clark. All preceded her in death.

A lifelong resident of Keokuk, Margaret was employed in production at Dryden Rubber and at the Globe Motel in housekeeping. She was of the Baptist faith, and loved bingo and poker games. Some of her favorite hobbies included crocheting afghans for her family, visiting with her family, fishing and going to thrift stores.

Margaret is survived by two sons, Steve (Laurie) Spurgeon of North Liberty, and Joseph (Sarah) Norvell of Warsaw, Ill.; four daughters, Barbara (Randy James) Glasgow of Elks, Ark., Jackie (Ted) Harmon of Keokuk, Sherry (Rick) Glasgow of Keokuk and Kimberly Norvell of Keokuk; her sister, Helen Drummond of Farmington; her brother, Frank Hall of Keokuk; and her uncle, Jack Kay of Keokuk. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her infant son, William Norvell; two brothers, Ralph Hall and Pete Hall; her sister, Shirley Allsup; and her great-granddaughter, Keyara Guymon.

A celebration of her life was held at 11 a.m. Monday at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers at 917 Blondeau St., Keokuk, with Pastor Jared Massey officiating. Burial followed at Scandinavian Cemetery near Keokuk. Visitation was held after 3 p.m. Sunday, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers is in charge of arrangements.

Brenda Shuman, 57, Keokuk

Brenda Lee Shuman, 57, of Keokuk, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at the Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born Jan. 9, 1960, in Keokuk, the daughter of Carl and Hilda Cooper Bauswell.

On March 11, 1994, she was united in marriage to Rick Shuman in Keokuk. He survives.

She also is survived by two daughters, Selena (Ron) Lawson of Keokuk and April Tate Garcia-Mendoza of Mississippi; a son, James Tate of Keokuk; a stepson, Michael (Jenna) Shuman of Keokuk; six grandchildren, Leddia Tallman, Brittney Bowden, Gavin Keefe, Lexie Shuman, Brady Shuman and Alexander Lawson; a sister, Hilda Sargent of Wayland, Mo.; a brother, Carl Bauswell of Wayland; three brothers-in-law, Joe (Lois) Shuman of Keokuk, Tony (Janis) Shuman of Hamilton, Ill., and Mark (Tracy) Shuman of Wayland; five sisters-in-law, Donna Davidson of Warsaw, Ill., Linda Hendricks of Hamilton, Rose (Joe) Moore of Charleston, Kim (Terry) Vradenburg of Keokuk and Kelley (Delbert) Gilbert of Keokuk; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Bauswell; mother, Hilda Cooper Mitchell; stepfather, Jack Mitchell; a daughter, Wendy Bauswell; a grandson, Skyler Tate; and a brother, Ricky Bauswell.

Brenda was employed with Bridgeway in Keokuk as the activity director.

She enjoyed her spontaneous trips to the casino or scratching off a lottery ticket. Most of all, her grandchildren were the sunshine of her life and she loved spending time with them. She was happy to be able to stay home and help raise her granddaughter Brittney, who lived with her.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Richard Reichman, 69, Keokuk

Richard Lee Reichman, 69, of Keokuk, passed away on Feb. 13, 2017, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Richard was born on July 13, 1947, in Keokuk, the son of Edward and Frances Lambrakis Reichman.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1969 until 1988.

Richard enjoyed collecting and shooting guns, fishing, and watching wrestling on television. Richard loved his dogs and his friends.

Richard is survived by his significant other, Laura Walker of Keokuk; his niece, Sally Bennett of Keokuk, his special friends, Glen Spraggins and Dawn Douglas of Keokuk; stepdaughter Charlene; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Bill Lambrakis; and two sons, Richard Lee Reichman Jr. and Scott who died in infancy.

Graveside services and full military rites will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Keokuk National Cemetery, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or to American Heart Association.

Paul Baker Jr., 66, Fort Madison

FORT MADISON – Paul E. Baker Jr., 66, of Fort Madison passed away at 7:04 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 7, 1950, in Fort Madison, to Paul E. and Betty Clem Baker Sr.

Survivors include a son.

Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory, and there will be no formal services at this time.

John Wrieden, 69, Keokuk

John Henry Wrieden, 69, of Keokuk, passed away on Feb. 11, 2017, at his home.

John was born June 6, 1947, in Keokuk, the son of Francis and Lois Howell Wrieden.

He was united in marriage to Sheldia Hymes on Dec. 10, 1966, at Second United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk. She survives.

He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He worked for the City of Keokuk as a street department supervisor. He was a member of Southside Boat Club, Yacht Club and Elks 106. John loved playing golf and played drums in the Oak Street Band and others. He enjoyed riding his Harley, traveling, camping, fishing and hunting. John really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Sheldia Wrieden of Keokuk; two children, Tracy (Ron) Hartis of Keokuk and Jamie (Kirsten) Wrieden of Keokuk; grandchildren, Kortnie Corethers (fiancé Andrew Wear), Broc Hartis, Brett and Brook Wrieden, and Ron (Bobbi) Hartis Jr.; a great-grandson, Urijah Hartis; and his brothers and sisters, Butch (Mary) Wrieden, Sharon (Dan) Duncan, Richard (Linda) Wrieden, Patty (Melvin) Sapp, Jake (Carey) Wrieden, Terry Wrieden, Rob (Rhea) Wrieden, Mike (Robin) Wrieden and Chuck (Tracy) Wrieden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sons, Ronald and Donald; and two brothers, Linnie and Dan.

A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers, 917 Blondeau St., Keokuk, with the Rev. Dan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at DeJong-Greaves, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. An Elks memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, directly following the visitation.

Memorials may be made to Elks.
