A Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Service: Saturday May 6, 2006

Doris I. Bunn, 68, of Montezuma, died Sunday April 30, 2006 at The Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center in Montezuma, IA. Arrangement are being held by The Cremation Society of EasternWestern-Central Iowa and Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma.

She was born on October 14, 1937 in Oskaloosa, IA to Earl and Mary Ferree Corbin.

Doris worked as a cook, a waitress and a bookeeper at various restaurants including Dickey's Prarie Home, Village Inn, Skell Diner and the Monte Tap. In 1988 she went to work for Sigs Mfg. where she was employed for 16 years before retiring.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Debbie Bunn of Sedalia, MO, three daughters and two son-in-laws, Joyce and Danny Curley of Laclede, MO, Brenda and Dave Fisch of Montezuma, IA and Esther Earley of Tama, IA, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her mother Mary Corbin of New Sharon, IA and one brother and his wife Don and Ruth Corbin of Adrian, MI. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Corbin, one brother Clifford Corbin and one infant grandchild.

A celebration of life memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6th, 2006 at The Madison Township Cemetery northwest of Oskaloosa, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a memorial fund be established to Grinnell Regional Hospice in honor of Doris.

Dorris Madeline Heller Mekus
Born in Granger, IA on Oct. 21, 1911
Departed on Apr. 9, 2006 and resided in Mount Ayr, IA.

Dorris Madeline Heller Mekus, 94, of Mount Ayr, Iowa died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa with the Rev. Father Tom Dooley officiating.

Dorris Madeline Graham was born October 21, 1911, to Joseph and Inez (Truitt) Graham in Granger, Iowa. In 1937 she married Cecil Heller and together they had two children Max and Richard.

Cecil preceded Dorris death in 1945 and she married Pete Mekus in 1949. Pete and Dorris retired to Tucson, Arizona, in 1978. Dorris returned to Indianola, Iowa, after Pete’s death in 1994. In September of 2003, Dorris moved to Clearview Homes in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Dorris graduated from Milo High School in 1929. From 1929 to 1933 Dorris attended Simpson College graduating with a major in music and a minor in English. Dorris played the piano for silent movie theaters in Indianola and Milo.

Dorris was employed with Meredith Publishing in the purchasing department as a purchasing agent for twenty years. Prior to her employment with Meredith Publishing, Dorris was a teacher in Alleman, Iowa from 1935 to 1936.

Survivors include two sons Max A. (Sandra) Mekus of Mt. Ayr, Iowa and Richard J.(Melonie) Mekus of Olathe, Kansas; two sisters Louvele Sams of Indianola, Iowa, and Darlene Graham of Milo, Iowa. Survivors also include five grand children, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorris was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Heller; second husband, Peter Mekus; two sisters Ruth Graham and Elva Hibbs and a brother, Dr. Joseph Graham.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mount Ayr in Dorris’ name.

Ann Catherine Willey
Born in San Francisco, CA on Nov. 7, 1917
Departed on Mar. 28, 2006 and resided in West Union, IA.

Ann Catherine Willey, 88, of West Union died Tuesday March 28, 2006 at Good Samaritan Care Center in West Union after a long illness. A small memorial service was held Wednesday Morning at Good Samaritan Care Center and Graveside Services and inurnment will take place at a later date at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA.

Survivors include a son Daniel (Abagail) Eggink of San Francisco, CA, two daughters; Susan (Arnim) Nicolson of San Martin, CA and Ann Loree (Robert) Kloster of West Union, IA. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Patricia Brown, of Lake Port, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three loving husbands, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Ann was born November 7, 1917 in San Francisco, CA to Joseph and Edith Hickey. She lived in San Francisco until she attended San Jose City College and later San Jose State College. In 1938 she married Bernard Eggirk and they had three children. Bernard died in 1962 and Ann later married John Champlin in 1966. He died in 1971. In 1977 she married Frank Willey in Lake County.

Frank died in 1981. For twenty-five years Ann worked as the office manager for a large architectural firm in San Jose, CA. She retired in 1974.

Ann enjoyed reading and cooking and liked to stay active and travel. She was a lifetime member of the Navy League of the US and served as the National Director in the 1970’s. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Palmer Lutheran Hospital, and the Wednesday Art Club.

Friends may, if they wish, make donations to the Good Samaritan Care Facility in West Union, IA.

The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with the arrangements.

Jack Arthur Bevauns
Born in Cedar Rapids on Aug. 18, 1942
Departed on Mar. 12, 2006 and resided in Lisbon, IA.
Service: Thursday Mar. 16, 2006
Cemetery: No Burial

Jack A. Bevauns, 63, of Lisbon, Iowa died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at his home after his battle with stomach cancer. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Father Bill Pugliese and Rev. Barbara Schlachter officiating.

Jack Arthur Bevauns was born August 18, 1942 to Jacques and Bernadine (Cate) Bevauns in Cedar Rapids, IA. He married Barbara Hesselberg on January 1, 2000 in Cedar Rapids.

Jack attended Marion High School.

Jack was employed with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) of Cedar Rapids, IA in the fructose department for 29 years before his retirement in August of 2004.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Bevauns of Lisbon, IA; son Jeff Bevauns of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one sister Ann (Glenn) Pike of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Rapids Christ Episcopal Church in Jack’s name.

Grace E. Fredrickson
Born in Robinsdale, MN on Feb. 29, 1952
Departed on Jul. 19, 2007 and resided in Des Moines, IA.

Grace Estella Fredrickson, 55, of 1731 Cleveland St, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the Kavanagh Hospice House, Des Moines following an extended illness.

Per her wishes, she was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 (Noon), Saturday, July 28th, 2007 at the Berean Assembly of God Church, 5225 Maple Drive, Pleasant Hill, IA. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her son, Richard Fredrickson of Iowa Falls, IA and daughter, Rachel Cummings of Fountain, CO; Mother, Winona Lindstrom of Coon Rapids, MN; Brothers, Richard Lindstrom of Brooklyn Center, MN, Michial Lindstrom of Murietta, California; Sisters, Joyce Hallam of Houston, TX, Rebecca Benoit of Columbia Heights, MN, Glenna Lindstrom of Eagan, MN, Janice Springer of Elk River, MN & Candice Stanton of New Brighton, MN. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Lindstrom.

Grace Estella Lindstrom was born February 29, 1952 in Robinsdale, MN the daughter of Glen & Winona (Johnson) Lindstrom. Grace owned and operated Daycare Centers in the Des Moines area.

Gene Harvey Brownell
Born in Maynard, IA on Nov. 7, 1919
Departed on Jul. 16, 2007 and resided in Randalia, IA.

Gene Brownell, age 87, of Randalia passed away Monday, July 16th, 2007, at Allen Memorial hospital, Waterloo, Iowa following a sudden illness.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21st, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette, Iowa. Inurnment will follow the service at Long Grove cemetery in Maynard, Iowa.

Gene's family will greet friends and relatives at the Gary Brownell residence, 13565 O Avenue, rural Randalia, Iowa, from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Friday, July 20th, 2007, with prayer and tribute service starting at 7:30p.m.

Gene Harvey Brownell was born November 7, 1919 to Herald and Hazel [Simpson] Brownell near Maynard Iowa. Gene attended and graduated from Maynard High School in 1937. Following graduation he attended the University of Iowa for a time. On June 6, 1942 Gene married Dolores Fortier. The couple raised five children and they were married for 61 years. Dolores preceeded Gene in death on October 10, 2003.

Gene was employed as Fayette County A.S.C.S. office Manager for 18 years, retiring in 1983. Prior to working at A.S.C.S., Gene was a dairy farmer in the Maynard and Westgate areas from 1942 to 1965.

Gene was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church for 57 years. a member of Pleasant Ridge Driving Club, the Fayette County Farm Bureau, a life member of the Holstein Association, and leader of the Harlan Livestock 4-H club for 14 years.

Gene thoroughly enjoyed raising, breaking, driving and showing ponies and draft horses over the years, as well as his herd of holsteins.

Survivors include: two sons, Gary [Janice] Brownell of Randalia, Ia, Bill [Diane] Brownell, Riceville, Ia, two daughters Kay [Phil] Johnson of Rolfe, Ia, and Judy [Dale] Cowell of Wauzeka, Wi. Seventeen grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceeded in death by his parents, a son Dick Brownell, a great grand-daughter Katie Farmer, a brother Gerald Brownell, a sister Gwenda Brownell, and son- in-law Gary Moats.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Jack DeWayne Schuck
Born in Waterloo on Feb. 21, 1927
Departed on Jul. 12, 2007 and resided in Cedar Falls, IA.

Jack DeWayne Schuck, 83, of Cedar Falls, IA passed away Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the Cedar Valley Dialysis Center in Waterloo IA. Per his wishes, Jack was cremated.

Jack DeWayne Schuck was born February 21, 1924 to Claude and Elizabeth “Betty” (Betz) Schuck in Waterloo, IA. Jack was a 1942 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He served in the United States Army serving during World War II in the European Theatre Conflict. After serving his country, Jack owned and operated Schuck Realty Company from 1950 until his retirement in 2000.

Jack was married to Celia Tebben in 1946. They were later divorced. On June 26, 1986, he and Joan Tomkins were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.

Through the years Jack was very active in the community and started many housing developments. Jack enjoyed life to the fullest and loved spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife Joan Schuck of Cedar Falls; son Jon Schuck of North Port, FL; daughter Sheila Clark of Los Angeles, CA; step children Angela (Jeff) Church of Parkersburg, IA; Rex (Hope) Tomkins of Parkersburg; Scott (Shelly) Tomkins of Garner, NC; and ten grandchildren, Mark and Anthony Clark, Jessica and Zachary Church, Desiree and Blake Tomkins, Jacob, Jason, Jaclyn Tomkins, and Jonah Smith.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Marjorie Sheppard.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the Bethel Lutheran Church located at 701 3rd Avenue in Parkersburg, IA.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Dialysis Center or to the Jack Schuck Parkersburg Scholarship Fund in Jack’s name.

Richard Kenneth Buser
Born in Conesville on Jun. 25, 1935
Departed on Jul. 11, 2007 and resided in Conesville, IA.
Memorial Service: Monday, Jul. 16, 2007

Richard Kenneth Buser, age 72, of Conesville, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a long illness. A memorial service is being held at 6:30PM on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Grace United Church of Christ on Washington Street in Conesville. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife; Bonnie Jean Buser, two sons; Richard Buser Jr. and his wife Irene, Jamey Buser and his wife Daphne, all of Conesville, his mother; Isabelle (McCormick) Buser, two grandchildren; Tiffany Lynn Buser and Cody Lee Buser both of Conesville, three sisters; Audrey Staley of Conesville, Joyce Wookey of Muscatine, and Jane Brenneman of Lone Tree.

His father, Lenox Buser, preceded him in death.

Richard was born on June 25, 1935, in Conesville. He was united in marriage with Bonnie Jean McCormick on August 8, 1960 in Muscatine, Iowa. They made their home in the Conesville area where Richard farmed and worked the land. To this union two sons were born.
