Irene Mae Craft, 88, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at the Vitas Hospice House, Saturday, July 28, 2007, after a long illness. Graveside Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Blair Frank. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial ~ Westside Chapel on Wednesday from 6 8 p.m.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheryll William Hand of Kingwood, TX and their daughters, Lana Reid Eastman and Laurel Vest, all of Kingwood, TX; and 4 great grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a sister; and 2 brothers.

Irene was born on April 21, 1919 in Swisher to Louis and Pauline Swenka Melsha. She married Roger Craft in Cedar Rapids on October 7, 1950. He died in 1984. Irene was a charter member of St. James United Methodist Church, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association.

Betty J. Caspers
Born on January 5, 1930

Betty J. "Bee" Emmons Bachman Caspers, 77, of the Woodlands at Meth-Wick died there on Sat. Sept. 1, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Monday at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Wilcox and Rev. Kay Mineck will officiate. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM Sunday and at the Church after Noon on Monday. Private family inurnment at a later date at the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Don Caspers, four sons, Dan Connie Bachman, Al Caspers, Scott Cindy Caspers; Rod Caspers Bill Staples; three daughters, Sue Gary Bachman Statton, Becky Ben York and DeAnna Caspers and her husband, Kim Luckey. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, five step grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Wally Emmons and son Craig Caspers.
Bee was born on January 5, 1930 at the University Hospital in Iowa City, the daughter of Harold and Millie Emmons of Cedar Rapids; She attended Cedar Rapids Public School, graduating from Wilson High School in 1948. She was married to Max Bachman of Cedar Rapids on July 31, 1949. They were parents to 3 children, Dan Bachman of Cedar Rapids, Sue Bachman Statton of Bloomington, IL, and Becky York of Cedar Rapids. They resided in Toddville, Williamsburg, and returned to Cedar Rapids in 1969. Bee was united in marriage with Rev. Donald T. Caspers at Palisades State Park on July 7, 1979. Bee and Don retired to Meth-Wick Manor in 2003.
Bee actively participated in school activities and had fond memories of summers at Camp Hitaga. As an adult she was active in each community in which she resided through a variety of volunteer commitments. Her careers included; Landmark Restaurant Williamsburg, Spring House Restaurant Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Public Schools, Iowa National Mutual Co., and retiring from West Bend Mutual Insurance Co.
Bee was a loving wife, mother and shared her wisdom unselfishly. She was always available for a cup of coffee with friends and could share stories of camping, outdoor adventures, and create a sense of welcome for all.
Memorial gifts may be made to, Hillcrest Family Service, the Wick Foundation Meth-Wick Community, Camp Hitaga, or the Foundation II Crisis Center.

Phyllis Almeda Carter
Born in Cedar county, Iowa on October 31, 1921
Departed on January 7, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Phyllis Almeda Carter, 86, of 327 Nassau St. SE, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a heart attack. Services with Eastern Star Services at 3 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. David Hohmann of First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Thursday.

Survivors include her husband Robert M. Carter, two step-sons Richard Carter and wife Mary of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Barry Carter and wife Nicole of Cedar Rapids, brother Lloyd Andre of Anamosa, two grandchildren Kevin Carter of Cedar Rapids, and Sarah Carter of West Des Moines, great grandson Mickey Carter of West Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald, two sister in laws, and two nephews.

Phyllis was born October 31, 1921 in Cedar county Iowa to Leo and LaVena Walker Andre. Phyllis and Robert M. Carter were married June 9, 1984 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She retired from Square D Corporation after 28 years. She was a 60 year member of the Cedar Chapter Order of Eastern Star #184. and served as Worthy Matron in 1984. She was a member of the Sisterhood of P.E.O. chapter I.F., and a member of First Congregation United Church of Christ of Cedar Rapids.

The Lord was Phyllis’ Shepherd. She shall not want. He maketh her to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth her beside the still waters. He leadeth Phyllis in the path of righteousness for his name sake. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow her all the days of her life. Phyllis shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

James Allen Dutton
Born in Callaway County, MO on January 16, 1944

James Allen Dutton, 66, of Norway, Iowa, went to be with his Lord and savior Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life service with Masonic rites and military honors will be held at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sister Peg Murphy will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 PM Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment at 1 PM Wednesday in the Williamsburg, Missouri Cemetery.

Surviving to honor his memory are his brother William Dean Dutton and wife Kay of Mexico, Missouri, a niece Angela Kroell of Webster Grove, Missouri, two nephews Jack Dutton of Columbia, Missouri, and Chad Dutton of Jefferson City, Missouri, two great nephews Cullen Dutton and Jordan Kroell, his goddaughter Kara Frame, her daughter Savannah, and son Sawyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and his special friend Helen Davis of Cedar Rapids.

James was born January 16, 1944, in Callaway County, Missouri, to James W. and Edna Bush Dutton. He was a Marine Corps veteran. He was employed by Quaker Oats for 37 years as an electrician. He was past master of St. Clair Masonic Lodge #164 in Norway, Iowa. He touched the lives of many with his playing and singing country music, and also had a passion for playing golf.

He will be greatly missed by his many, many, many friends.

Harry Morgan Davis
Born on November 6, 1911
Departed on July 17, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Harry Morgan Davis, 92, a resident of Silver Pines Care Center died Wednesday July 16, 2003 at the care center following a brief illness. Graveside Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery. There is no visitation. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Arrangements by Turner East Funeral Home and Crematory.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas Nicol of Carmichael, CA; sisters-in-law, Lois Nicol of Carmichael, CA and Marcha Nicol of Fairfield, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Morgan was born November 6, 1911 in Denver County the beloved son of Harry and Hazel Davis. He married his wife of 64 years, Edith Nicol Davis on May 28, 1936. She preceded him in death. Morgan was a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, playing center on the all state football team during his senior year in high school. He graduated from Coe College in 1934 and served in the Army Air Corp during WW II. After the war he worked in two advertising agencies and an engraving company before going free lance as a commercial artist. He operated Morgan Davis Advertising Art and Guild crafter's Studio/Art and Services for Graphic Reproduction for 40 years before his retirement.
Morgan will always be remembered by his family for his love of art and history, and for his curious mind. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to Silver Pines, 136 36th Ave SW, where Morgan was so carefully and lovingly cared for the last months of his life.

Newell L. Crow Sr.
Born in Benton county, Iowa on April 20, 1909
Departed on December 23, 2007. Resided in Marion, IA.

Newell L. Crow Sr., 98, of Marion, died Sunday, December 23, 2007, in Willow Gardens Care Center following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Friday.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Arlene, two sons, Newell "Sonny" Marcia Crow Jr. of Marion, and Gary Cathy Crow of Newport Beach, California, a daughter Donna Robbins Marty of Marion, thirteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Helen Norris, three brothers, one sister, and a great grandson.

Newell was born April 20, 1909 in Benton County to Joseph and Johanna Griffin Crow. He married Arlene Goettle on January 3, 1944 in Iowa City. He was a machinist for Iowa Manufacturing retiring in 1976.
