Inurnment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 10:30 Am on Monday.

Esther grew up in Coggon, IA. By her description of her childhood, it was hard to believe she grew up in the depression. She felt her childhood and life were rich. She learned to dance from her older brother Harold. She would go to her sister's Helen's house to be spoiled, and tried in vain to keep her younger brother Carl out of trouble. Esther had a wonderful singing voice and was quite accomplished at piano playing. She also enjoyed reminiscing about playing guard on the girl's six on six basketball team for Coggon. Her senior year her team made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the state play-offs, and she was proud of being on the honorable mention state team. She did love dancing, and so it was not surprising she met her husband-to-be at a dance in Coggon. Charles Arthur Cooling and Esther were married August 9th, 1952 in Albia, IA. They had many shared loves through their life together, dancing being one, but also their children, grandchildren, antiques, dolls, traveling, and just getting together with family. After she moved to Cedar Rapids she began working at Sears and Roebuck after Sears moved from downtown to the new Lindale Mall. She worked part-time for many years in the credit department. From there she worked as an aide at Franklin Junior High School and then on to A and A Business Forms. In 1973 she began working at Northwestern Bell as a clerk typist. She weathered the changes there through the years, eventually retiring from US West in 1992. She enjoyed her work and the many friends she made. She was especially proud of her involvement with the CWA and the Quality of Work Life program. Chuck and Esther were also involved in the Kate Shelley Doll Club for many years. Through the club they were able to travel all over the United States to Federated Doll Shows. They thoroughly enjoyed those experiences. These past few years she was a familiar face at local tag sales clerking for the Cellar Door. Again, more friends were to be made, and through these friends she enjoyed her last big traveling excursion to China.
