Marvin Lee Engel, 73, of Hudson, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 of natural causes at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, June 19, 2009 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3500 29th Avenue, Marion, Iowa 52302. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate. Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. Interment will take place at Linn Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his fiancé Janice Allen also of Hudson; sister Dorothy Kruckman of Marion; four children: Valorie Kay (Engel) Lukavsky and Phil of Cedar Rapids, Brenda Lee (Engel) Franck and Kevin of Cedar Rapids; Christopher Marvin Engel and Shari of Amana, and Julie Ann Engel of Colorado; eight grandchildren: Timothy Lukavsky, Gary (Kelly) Franck, Robert (Lindsay) Lukavsky, John Lukavsky, Tracy Franck, Adam Engel, Aric Engel and Derya Senol; 3 great granddaughters: Taylor Lukavsky, Taylor and Courtney Franck; seven step-grandchildren, and 20 step great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann (Engelhardt) Engel, both parents, and one grandson Christopher John Lukavsky.

Marvin was born December 26, 1935 in Ocheydan, Iowa to Owen Moar Engel and Anna Bell (Stolp) Engel. He attended Everly High School and spent time in the Spencer and Lake Okobojii areas. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 34 years and farmed in Mt. Vernon and Springville area for 31 years, Hudson for 6 years, and one year east of Manchester. He loved to square dance, work with tools and machinery, and was a regular at Meskwaki.

Marvin was a loving partner, father, (great) grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be missed by all.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion for many years.

A memorial fund has been established in Marvin’s honor.

Racine H. Fitzgerald
Born in Callaway County, MO on July 5, 1923
Departed on December 10, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Racine Fitzgerald, 87, died on December 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Services at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Reverend John Louk of Salem United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 12 PM on Tuesday.

Surviving are her children, Charles (Diann) Fitzgerald of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Teresa) Fitzgerald of Waukee; 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; and a very close sister-in-law and friend, Eunice Stanley of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orville in 1981, a son, Dennis, and a brother-in-law Martin and wife, Mary.

Racine was born July 5, 1923 in Callaway County, MO. She was raised by Thomas and Elizabeth Salmon in Cedar Rapids. She attended and graduated from McKinley High School. Racine was united in marriage to Orville Fitzgerald on September 12, 1942. Racine was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and their sewing circle. She worked at Square D Company, Charter Coaches, for several years where she planned and guided tours, and the Eastern Iowa Airport. Racine had many hobbies including cake decorating, square dancing, sewing, and traveling. She took great pride in bringing happiness to people as Jingle Jenny the Clown at St. Luke’s Hospital. She also volunteered for hospice at Mercy Medical Center. She was a member and officer of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 788 and was an active member of New Encounters. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Fern N. Enderes
Born in Littleport, Iowa on August 12, 1919
Departed on June 11, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Fern N. Enderes, 89, of 1506 8th Ave SE, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, in her home following a short illness. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in Westminster Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jim Langley will officiate. Visitation from 4 to 7 PM Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the church after 10 AM on Monday.

Surviving to honor her memory are nieces and nephews, Kent and Pat Enderes of Bozeman, Montana, Kay and Bob Bourg of Rio Verde, Arizona, Larry and Wanda Enderes of Tama, Linda and Fred Meyers of Cedar Rapids, Carol and Richard Woodson of Kewaskum, Wisconsin, and Jane and Ron Zhorne of Troy Mills, Iowa, many great nieces and nephews, and many great great nieces and nephews. She will be remembered fondly by her closest of friends Doug, Heather, and Josh Wagner, and Brad Lock. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Melvin and Ivan Enderes, a nephew John Enderes, and niece Brenda Baldwin.

Fern was born August 12, 1919 in Littleport, Iowa to John and Louise Bendschneider Enderes. She was an incredibly giving lady. She taught 8th grade in Palo before teaching 1st grade at Cleveland Elementary for over 35 years. Teaching was an honor and delight for her and the hundreds of students who passed through her classroom have as fond memories of her as she did of them. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch swing, talking with neighbors, and sharing candy with neighborhood kids. She will be remembered for her delicious cookies, cakes, candies, and pies, but most for her loving touch with people.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy.

Kathleen Fisher
Born in Hartly, Iowa on October 15, 1950
Departed on November 15, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Service: Friday, November 19, 2010
Kathleen Fisher, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Jim Langley. A visitation will be held on Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. and one-half hour before the service on Friday at the Chapel.

Survivors include her husband, James of 38 years; daughters, Abbigail and Emily Fisher, both of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Michael Bagen of Cedar Rapids and David (Carol) Bagen of Glenwood Springs, CO; and her mother-in-law, Lois Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents, and father-in-law, James Fisher.

Kathy was born October 15, 1950 in Hartly, Iowa, to Joe and Ruth Bagen. She married Jim Fisher on March 3, 1972 in Chicago, IL. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant at ImOn Communications. Kathy was active at Active Edge Fitness Club, a twenty-five year member of National TTT Society, holding various offices at the local and state level. She also enjoyed horseback riding in Wyoming, traveling in their RV, and sewing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Memorials may be directed to Hope Lodge (Mayo Clinic), Rochester, MN.

Janice Fay Eberle
Born in Buffalo Center, Iowa on August 5, 1934
Departed on June 7, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Janice Fay Eberle, 74, of 4122 Lexington Dr NE, died Sunday June 7, 2009. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, 1700 B Ave NE, by the Rev. Bill Warhover. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home today, June 9th, from 5-8 p.m. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.

Janice was born August 5, 1934 at Buffalo Center, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Grace Rippentrop Jansen. She married Owen Tjaden in May of 1954 in Titonka. He died in 1967. She later married Norman Eberle in 1978 in Cedar Rapids and he died in 2003. Janice was owner and operator of Jan’s Flowers in Monticello from 1967 until she retired in 1978. She was a member of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon, elder and active with many groups in the church. She had a deep love for all flowers and nature and was a volunteer for the Flower Stall at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Survivors include her children, Melody Ann Oltmann and husband Duane of LeClaire, Iowa, Bruce Tjaden and wife Heidi of Wichita, Kansas, Randall Tjaden and wife Pam of Eldora and Cynthia Kasper and husband Jerry of North Liberty, 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Echo Hill Building Fund, 1700 B Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402

Robert A Eckard
Born in Duluth, Minnesota on June 14, 1920
Departed on May 21, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Robert A. Eckard, 88, of 850 Edward Ct. SE # 107 died Thursday May 21, 2009 at Crestview Acres from complications of Alzheimer’s. Services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, one son, Steve ( Elaine) of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Virginia (Mark) Eichner of Sherman, Connecticut, 2 step-daughters, Margaret (Roger) Osborne of Oregon, and Pamela (Tom) Wecker of Shellsburg, a step-son, Dean Hilsman of North Liberty and a sister, Betty Schneider of Marion. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Daniel Eckard, and Katie and Jake Eichner and one great grandson, Julian. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Harriet, a son Bob, a sister, Peg Sullivan and one brother, Stewart.

Bob was born on June 14, 1920 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Earl and Mae Mary Threadgall Eckard. He married Harriet Kirkman on May 22, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. She died in 1994. He later married Mary Elmore on April 13, 1996 in Cedar Rapids.

Bob was a mechanical engineer at Rockwell-Collins for over 34 years, retiring in 1982. Bob was a faithful member of Central Park Presbyterian Church and proudly served in the army during WWII. He enjoyed playing soft ball, hunting, fishing, pitching horse shoes and was an avid bike rider; riding RAGBRI two times after the age of 65.

Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Bob’s name. Military rites by VFW Post 788.

Robert William Edgerly
Born in Monticello, Iowa on August 4, 1953
Departed on May 18, 2009. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Robert William Edgerly, 55, of 2005 – 24th Street, Marion, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Survivors include wife, Judy; daughter, Chastity (Billy) Perkins of Cedar Rapids; son, Courtney Edgerly of Cedar Rapids; sister, Pat (Don) Power of Olin; stepchildren, Rob (Jen) McAllister, Ashley Heeren, and Stacy (William) Lucas, all of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Denise) McAllister of Fairfax, Jason McAllister and Chelsea (Kyle) Koeppen, all of Marion; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sharon Baily; and stepson, Timothy.

Rob was born August 4, 1953 in Monticello to William and Louise Edgerly. He was raised and graduated from Central City schools. He worked at Hauschilds for twelve years and Quaker Oats for 32 years. He was united in marriage to Judy McVay in 2008. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and being outdoors. Rob was a great husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend to all. His sense of humor and good nature will be truly missed.

A memorial fund has been established in Rob’s name.

A special thank you to the Mercy Hospice for the compassionate care given to Rob and to the Quaker Oats family.

Rob will always be in our hearts and thoughts and truly missed by all of those whose lives he touched.
