Richard Floyd Kretschmar, 93, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 in his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial’s certified celebrant, Julie Freese will be officiating. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, 4:00-7:00 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Richard was born September 6, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John and Louise (Conrad) Kretschmar. He graduated in 1937 from Roosevelt High School and proudly served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II.

Richard very much enjoyed fishing. He also looked forward to his lunches at the Elks Lodge and American Legion where he would spend time talking with friends. Richard was a fireman in Cedar Rapids for nearly 35 years (from 1942-1977).

Richard was survived by three nieces, Penny, Pam and Patrice; and one nephew, John. He was preceded in death his parents; daughter, Sharon; grandson, Rick; and sister, Evelyn.

Memorial donations may be given in Richard’s name to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department Honor Guard at 1010 1st Street NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.

Betty R. Kortenkamp
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 4, 1946
Departed on September 3, 2012. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Betty R. Kortenkamp, 66, of 3000 6th Street in Marion died Monday September 3, 2012 at her home after a sudden illness. Per Betty’s request there will be no public service. There will be a visitation at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include her three children, Kyla (Nathan) Doyle of Cedar Rapids, Beth Dudley and Jonathan Kortenkamp all of Marion. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Brooke, Ashley, Austin, Halle, Braiden; a great grandchild Ethan and a close friend Ed Kortenkamp of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Betty was born on August 4, 1946 in Little Rock, Arkansas the daughter of Arthur Coleman Lee and Naomi Megonigle. Betty worked for the Linn County Recorders Office and retired from there after several years of service.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the time spent with her beloved family. Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dakota James Kappmeyer
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on January 2, 2000
Departed on September 3, 2012. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Service: Friday, September 7, 2012

Dakota James Kappmeyer, 12, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, September 3, 2012 at St. Luke's after a long battle with cancer. Services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, September 7, 2012 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may join family Thursday evening for a visitation from 4:00-7:00 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow
Friday services.

Dakota was survived by his parents, Nathan and Rebecca Kappmeyer; sister Julia; aunt Stephanie (Jamie) Junker and children, Coltinn, Brennen, and Madison; great-grandma, Norma Kappmeyer; great-aunt, Nancy Torson; uncle, Paul (Jessica) Cones and children Sarah and JD; aunts, Donna (Chris) Hammen and children Gabrielle and Nick; Bobbi (Chris) Mazurek and children Chloe, Ethan, and Isabella; aunt Heather Cones; and grandparents, Paul and Linda Cones and Nate Kappmeyer.

He was preceded in death by Grandma Suzann Torson.

Dakota enjoyed playing his video games, playing on the computer, and watching the food network. He was a 7th grader at Roosevelt Middle School.

A memorial fund in Dakota’s name is being established by the family.

Janice M. Kesselring
Born in Iowa City, Iowa on November 9, 1940
Departed on September 6, 2012. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Janice M. Kesselring, 71, of Marion died at her home on Thursday September 6, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Services at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Steve Irwin will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Monday.
Survivors include five daughters, Shawn (David Nash) Johnson of Greenville, Texas, Tanya Mundorf of Norway, Iowa; Brigot (Robert) Vertz of Cedar Rapids; TiShannon Kesselring of Marion and Heather Hoxsey and family of Ottumwa; four sisters; Nancy Grell, Patricia Divis and Linda Maher all of Marion and Lori (Tim) Duffy of Rock Island, Illinois and a brother Tim (Elaine) Maher of Nicholasville, Kentucky. She is also survived by grandchildren, Quyn, Isaac, Andrea, Breanna, Catherine, Danielle, Christopher, Kiera, Conrad and her special pets Smokey, Max and B.J. She was preceded in death by her parents, numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and other relatives.
Janice was born on November 9, 1940 in Iowa City, the daughter of Forrest and Dorothy Hansen Hunter. She married Jack Johnson, they were later divorced. She later married Benjamin L. Kesselring in 1967 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced.
Janice was a Certified Nurse’s Aide and worked at Willow Gardens retiring from there in 2002 after many years of dedicated service. She was a skilled and compassionate care giver. Her tender touch and compassionate nature exemplified her approach to both her family and career. She was tolerant, playful with a wonderful sense of humor.
Janice was a member of the 1st Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, working in her flower garden and especially enjoyed the time spent with her family. Janice was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Deanna June Kelley
Born in Davenport, Iowa on December 29, 1960
Departed on November 6, 2012. Resided in Belle Plaine, Iowa.

Deanna June Kelley, 51 of Belle Plaine, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died November 6, 2012 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Mary Beth Siemann of Iowa Hospice will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

She is survived by her two children, Sarah (Jordan) Overton of Cedar Rapids; Ben Boutiba of Tampa FL; husband Tom Gulick of Belle Plaine; a brother Chuck Kelley of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Debbie (Mike) Whitson of Belle Plaine; and Cathy (Bill) Van Nevel of Belle Plaine; and three grandchildren, Courtney, Zach and Adleah.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Connie Shulista.

Deanna June Kelley was born December 29, 1960 in Davenport, Iowa the beloved daughter of Thomas and Donna Looney Kelley. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Her greatest job was being a loving mother to her children, Sarah and Ben. She worked as a bookkeeper for Eagles Econo Foods and Hy Vee grocery stores. Deanna enjoyed the beach, water, sun tanning, baking, and above all time with her grandchildren and family. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed.

“Dee Dee”, our sweetie, has left this earth, but she will never be forgotten and will always be in the hearts of her family and loved ones.

Christine Priscilla Kircher
Born in West Bend, Wisconsin on June 26, 1960
Departed on February 1, 2013. Resided in Robins, Iowa.

Christine Priscilla Kircher, 52, of Robins, Iowa, passed away peacefully February 1 in her home surrounded by her loving family and beloved pets following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 PM on Monday, February 4th at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 5th.

Chris was born June 26, 1960, in West Bend, Wisconsin the daughter of Albert and Winifred (Conrad) Rettler. Christine graduated from West Bend West High School, West Bend, Wisconsin in 1978. She also graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, Stevens Point, Wisconsin in 1982. On September 4, 1982, she married James A. Kircher in West Bend, Wisconsin. James and Christine lived in Wisconsin where they started their family before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1998. From 2000 – 2012, Chris worked for the Linn Mar School District and was most recently the Student Administrative Manager (SAM) at Echo Hill Elementary School in Marion, Iowa.

Chris is survived by her family including husband, James; children, Jacob, Benjamin and Anna; her mother, Winnifred Rettler, sister Patricia (Rettler) Spaeth and brother-in-law James Spaeth, brother James Rettler, mother-in-law Betty Kircher, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara (Kircher) Flouro and Kenneth Flouro as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members. Chris was preceded in death by her father Albert Rettler and father-in-law Robert Kircher.

Chris will be greatly missed by her family, friends, coworkers and students. Chris had a special place in her heart for the students she worked with during her 12 years in the Linn Mar School District. Everyone will truly miss her loving, giving and outgoing personality.

Chris and her family also want to give a special thank you to her extended family of caregivers at Mercy Hospice, Hall-Perrine Cancer Center and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. The personal and professional care as well as close friendships established throughout her journey were very important to Chris and her family.

A memorial fund has been established in Chris’s name at Community Savings Bank in Robins, Iowa.
