William Pollard

GREENUP - William O. "Bill" Pollard, 89, of Greenup, formerly of Buffalo, Mo., died at 10:27 a.m. Wednesday, (June 28, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup, with Pastor Richard G. Pollard and Pastor Brooke Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery, Janesville.

He was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Norton, Kan., the son of George and Nora Severience Hendrix Pollard.

He married Jean Poulter in 1962; she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Richard G. Pollard of Tucson, Ariz., and Thomas L. Pollard of Houston; two brothers, Perry Pollard of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Richard Pollard of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth VanAchren of Omaha, Neb., and Mary Ester Pollard of Gering, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother, two sisters and one stepsister.

Mr. Pollard was the administrator for the Loveland County Hospital and had retired in 1975. He was a member of the Branch Seventh Adventist in Tunas, Mo.

Joseph Reber Jr.

SHELBYVILLE - Joseph Reber Jr., 79, of Shelbyville, died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday (June 29, 2000) at his residence.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery, near Shelbyville.

He was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Shelbyville, the son of Joseph Sr. and Susie Eigsti Reber.

He married Alberta M. Huffmaster in 1942; she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Ricky D. Reber of Shelbyville; two daughters, Donna Jo Showalter of Illiopolis and Cheryl Grove of Blue Mound; four sisters, Anna Zoss of Roanoke, Lydia Hostetler of Shelbyville, Katie Ulrich of Metamora and Alice Swift of Normal; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Reber owned and operated Reber Welding Service in Shelbyville since 1960. He was a member of Calvary Mennonite Church, Washington and attended Mt. Hermon Amish Mennonite Church, Shelbyville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or American Cancer Society.

John Vlasich

GILLESPIE - John L. Vlasich, 90, of Gillespie, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday (June 28, 2000) at Heritage Manor in Litchfield.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie, with the Rev. James Dona and Art Roemer officiating. Burial will be in the Gillespie City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Mt. Olive, the son of Mike and Yella Stiscak Vlasich.

He first married Evelyn Cagna. He married Virginia Jones Dona in 1955; she died in 1991.

Surviving are two sons, John Vlasich of Springfield, Mo., and Michael Vlasich of Troy; two stepsons, John Dona of Gillespie and James Dona of Windsor; two brothers, Hank Vlasich of Gillespie and Nicholas Vlasich of Santa Maria, Calif.; one sister, Ann Waigausky of Gillespie; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Vlasich was a retired coal miner.

Memorials may be made to the Macoupin County Hospice, the First Christian Church of Gillespie or to the Benld Nutrition Center.

Kenneth Barton

YALE - Kenneth D. Barton, 65, of Yale, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 27, 2000) at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Markwell and Son Funeral Home, Casey, with the Rev. David Monroe officiating. Burial will be in Yale Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born March 29, 1935, in Ionia, Mich., the son of Leon Earl and Frieda Ann Koshan Barton.

He married Katheryn Pilkington; she preceded him in death. He married Carylene L. Swope in 1981; she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth E. Barton of Paducah, Ky., Michael J. Barton of Urbana and Timothy J. Barton of Casey; eight daughters, Jan Lee Cousino of Coldwater, Mich., Annette S. Patton, Ann Marie Paul, Mabel Kemper and Gladys Lawhorn, all of Casey, and Tina Marie, Marianna F. and Kimberly K. Barton all of Mich.; two sisters, Thelma Moon of Midland, Mich., and Velma; 23 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter and one grandson.

Mr. Barton was self employed.

Mike Carroll

FINDLAY - Mike W. Carroll, 48, of Findlay, died at 12 a.m. Wednesday (June 28, 2000) in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery, near Findlay. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1952, in Shelbyville, the son of Billy W. and Betty Lou Baucom Carroll.

He married Diane L. White in 1982; she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Josh Carroll at home; two daughters, Mrs. Forrest (April) Sanders of Mattoon and Mrs. Oscar (Carla) Doty of Findlay; his parents of Findlay; three brothers, John Carroll of Allenville, and Jim and Billy Carroll both of Findlay; two sisters, Vicky Carroll of Taylorville and Becky Hubbard of Shelbyville; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and grandparents.

Mr. Carroll worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 21 years. He was a member of Lodge No. 41 Railroad Brotherhood of Maintenance Way and the Findlay United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Findlay United Methodist Church.

Harley Edwards

ARCOLA - Harley A. Edwards, 84, of Arcola died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Arrangements are incomplete at Edwards Funeral Home.

Mary Ellington

CHARLESTON - Mary E. Ellington, 97, of Charleston died at 11:50 a.m. Monday (June 26, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. July 9 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Beck officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be the same day at the church.

The Harper-Swickard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Jan. 31, 1903, in Roberts, a daughter of Samuel and Amelia Zahn Ebert.

She married Edgar B. Ellington; he died in 1981.

Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Speer of Charleston; one brother, Rueben Ebert of Florida; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Ellington retired in 1968 as school teacher. She had taught in Mattoon and later in LaGrange Park. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, a life member of the Eastern Star at LaGrange Park and the American Association of University Women, a member of the Charleston Women's Club and Prime Time Coles County Retired Teachers Association.

Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church hand bell fund or to the church building fund.

Everett Fritz

CHARLESTON - Everett A. Fritz, 88, of Charleston died at 3 p.m. Wednesday (June 28, 2000) at Hilltop Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home in Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Coles County, a son of Emmett and Mary E. Hatten Fritz. He married Lorraine Richards in 1932; she died in 1990.

Surviving are one daughter, Lelia Adair of Charleston; one sister, Hazel Stewart of Charleston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Fritz was retired from Brown Shoe Co.

Dorothy Hahn

SULLIVAN - Dorothy M. Hahn, 95, of Sullivan, died at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday (June 28, 2000) in East View Terrace of Sullivan.

The funeral arrangements are incomplete at Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan.
