Leona Clark

NEOGA - Leona M. Clark, 89, of Neoga, died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich with the Rev. Ron Lake officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Cemetery in rural Effingham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Effingham County, the daughter of William and Bessie Hale Evans. She married Clarence Poynter; he preceded her in death. She married Seth Clark in 1970; he died in 1999.

Surviving are two daughters, Marlene Heaton of Toledo and Jeanie Goeckner of Taylorville; one sister, Ruth Scholz of Urbana; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

Mrs. Clark was the owner/operator of Elliottstown Grocery Store for many years and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Christian Village.

Alice Hagerman

SULLIVAN - Alice M. Hagerman, 84, of Sullivan, died at 2:35 a.m. Friday (July 27, 2001) in Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Zion.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ with Felix Hagerman and John Hagerman officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Sullivan, the daughter of George and Roby Vandeveer Kenney. She married Philip Hagerman in 1937; he died in 1988.

Surviving are three sons, John, Dennis and Barry Hagerman, all of Sullivan; one brother, Marvin "Toad" Kenney of Sullivan; one sister, Mabel Whitchurch of Rockford; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Hagerman owned The Dress Shop in Sullivan and was a member of the Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ.

Kenneth Hash

CHARLESTON - Kenneth B. Hash, 83, of Charleston, died Friday (July 27, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Adams Funeral Chapel.

Linda Prows

ARCOLA - Linda Lou Prows, 62, of Arcola, died at 11:23 p.m. Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Edwards Funeral Home, Arcola, with the Rev. Jess Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Beals Cemetery in Trilla. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born July 25, 1939, the daughter of Lawrence and Marie Wallisa Beals. She married Jim Harlan in 1965; he died in 1968. She married Junior Prows in 1973; he died in 2000.

Surviving are her mother of Mattoon; one son, Scott Prows of Fairfield, Ohio; one daughter, Shelly Swearingen of Toledo; one brother, Jerry Beals of Mattoon; one sister, Verna Sue Boyer of Kimberling City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her father.

Mrs. Prows worked for Schrock Cabinet Company in Arthur for several years.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

John W. Strader

John W. Strader, age 72, of Greenup, passed away at 12:12 P.M.­Thursday, July 26, 2001 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M.­Sunday, July 29, 2001 at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup, Illinois with Pastor Roger James officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Rural Greenup, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M.­Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup.

Mr. Strader was born at Liberty Hill, Illinois on October 27, 1928 the son of Norman and Clova (Eveland) Strader. John married Neoma Kingery on September 10, 1949, she survives.

John was the pastor at the Central Baptist Church in Casey and a retired maintenance technician with Sun Chemical Co. He was an ordained deacon and minister and a former chaplain of the Atlanta Lodge #116 IOOF,

John is survived by his wife of 51 years; two daughters, Marilyn Lorance of Greenup, Illinois and Margaret (Richard) Cummings of Casey, Illinois; a sister, Catherine Lewis of Greenup, Illinois; three grandchildren, John Modglin, Matthew and Tina Cummings.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, James Modglin.

Roland Gene Whitley

MATTOON - Roland Gene Whitley, age 50, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2001 at his residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Reverend EthelMae Champ officiating. Interment will follow in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001 at the funeral home.

Roland was born March 18, 1951 at Mattoon, Illinois, a son of Joseph F. and Betty L. Grooms Whitley. He married Cathy Wishart April 27, 1984 at Mattoon. Surviving are his wife, Cathy, of Mattoon; step-children, Aaron Lineberry of Mattoon and Elizabeth Gambill and her husband William also of Mattoon. He also leaves a brother, Randall J. Whitley and his wife Karen S. of Cooks Mills; a stepbrother David Grose of Mattoon; grandchildren, Anthony and Erika; one aunt Mary Grooms of Sullivan; as well as several nieces and nephews. His parents and two sisters preceded Roland in death.

A member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Roland was employed as a boiler room operator at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and was a member of the Eagles. He was an active member of the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department up until the time of his death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department.

Walter Conklin Jr.

NEOGA - Walter Hope Conklin Jr., 78, of Neoga, formerly of Chicago, died at 6:11 a.m. Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at his residence.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Brookfield. Burial will be in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery at Hillside. Visitation will be Friday afternoon at the funeral home. Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born March 23, 1923, in Madison, the son of Walter Hope Sr. and Eva Schrend Conklin. He married Rose Andrys in 1945; she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Walter Lee Conklin of Granite City; one sister, Eva Mae Cwik of Kentland, Ind.; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Mr. Conklin was a retired Chicago City Police Officer and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7 in Chicago.

Delta Parkes

OAKLAND - Delta W. Parkes, 83, of Oakland, died at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Joines Funeral Home in Newman with the Rev. Carl Fox officiating. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Arcola, the daughter of Clarence and Goldie Groves McClanahan. She married Harold J. Parkes in 1936; he died in 1995.

Surviving are one son, Doug Parkes of Merrillville, Ind.; two brothers, Pail McClanahan of West Lafayette, Ind., and Jerry McClanahan of Lake Station; four sisters, Ruth Stout of Plainfield, Ind., Betty Harrington of Everett, Wash., Marge Ghiglione of Vancouver, Wash., and Mary Lou Cougill of Charleston; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

DAVID E. HELTON

CHARLESTON, IL - David E. Helton, age 32 of Carterville, Illinois and formerly of Charleston, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 23, 2001 at his home. Services will be held in Carterville and Charleston. The Memorial Services in Carterville will be held this evening (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 301 N. Pine with Pastor Steve Palmer officiating. Services and Visitation will be held in Charleston at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, with Visitation tomorrow (Thursday) evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and services on Friday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor George Besch and Pastor Tom Skinner will officiate the Charleston services. Interment will follow the Charleston services at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon.

David was born February 12, 1969 in Charleston, Illinois the son of Richard E. and Mary Stice (Morgan) Helton. He married Bonnie G. Guetersloh in Charleston on April 26, 1997.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Carterville; one son, Jacob E. Helton of Carterville; one stepdaughter Jaclyn Rieckenberg of Carterville; his father, Richard E. Helton and his wife Cheryl of Charleston; his mother, Mary Stice and her husband C.D. of Marion, Arkansas; one sister, Lisa Foster and her husband Doug of Marion, Illinois; one niece, Robynn Foster of Marion, Illinois; one nephew, Dillon Foster of Marion, Illinois; three grandmothers, Evelyn Helton, Florence (Morgan) Bier and Frances Hughes, all of Charleston; a special friend and cousin, Connie Arias and her husband Kevin of Naperville, Illinois; his best friend, Dusty Lingle; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded by three grandfathers, Arthur E. Helton, Austin Morgan and Kenneth Hughes.

David was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carterville. An avid racecar fan, he carried a lifetime membership in the Southern Illinois Raceway, was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching televised races on Sunday afternoons cheering for his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. He was employed by Runge Trucking of Herrin, Illinois as a Diesel Mechanic. David will be remembered by his family as a special person who dearly loved his family and friends, and as one who gave inspiration to many in his courageous battle with Cancer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in honor of David be made to his children. Memorials may be made at the Services or Visitation or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

William Willis

CHARLESTON - William Joe "Bill" Willis, 54, of Charleston, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at his residence.

The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Dodge Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Dona officiating. No visitation is planned. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born April 19, 1947, in Mattoon, the son of Ray and Lois Blythe Willis.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Ray and Carolyn Willis of Mattoon; his mother, Lois Willis of Charleston; two brothers, Dan Willis of Charleston and Roy Willis of Decatur; and several cousins.

Mr. Willis worked for the C-CAR sheltered workshop.
