BILLIE MORGAN

Billie Lee Morgan, age 74, of Mattoon, passed away at 6:40 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2001, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Carl Kingery officiating. Burial with military rites by the V.F.W. Post 4325 will follow in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Billie was born January 12, 1927, in Mattoon, a son of John David and Bonnie O. Brummet Morgan. He married Jean Shields on December 25, 1948.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Morgan of Mattoon; one son, John David Morgan II and wife Donna of Mattoon; three daughters, Sandra Howell and husband Conley of Troy, Connie Stewart and husband David of Mattoon and Victoria Rankin and husband Jerry of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Patsy Ann Smith of Walnut Creek, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Greggory Rentfrow of Columbia, Mo., Travis Rentfrow of Cerro Gordo, Sara Friend of Jacksonville, Fla., Billie Jean Rankin of Jacksonville, Fla., Robyn Howell of Mattoon, Renee Howell of Troy, John Casey Morgan, Morgan Mars and Chad David Morgan, all of Mattoon; one great-grandson, Cole Friend of Jacksonville, Fla.; and also survived by his companion and best friend, the Dalmatian, "Bonnie".

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald David Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was formerly employed as a switchman and yardmaster by Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, retiring in 1986 after thirty nine years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Mattoon V.F.W. Post 4325. Billie has served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1947.

Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

JoAnn Rowe

LATHAM - JoAnn A. Rowe, 77, of Latham, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday (July 23, 2001) at her residence.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will be in Illini Cemetery in Warrensburg. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born Oct. 26, 1923 in Latham, the daughter of Clifford K. and Vera B. Major Games. She married Hugh A. Rowe in 1966. He died in 1997.

Surviving are one brother, Leland Games of Mattoon; one sister, Elizabeth House of Newman; two step grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Rowe was a former school teacher for Latham Country School and a bookkeeper for Meadow Gold Co. She was a member of the Latham United Methodist Church, Lady Land Owners Association and Firestone Retirees Club.

Robert Small

SHELBYVILLE - Robert D. Small, 73, of Shelbyville, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville.

Pauline Chapman

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. - Pauline Margaret Chapman, 96, of Cottonwood, Ariz., formerly of Casey, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday (July 22, 2001) at Scottsdale Healthcare.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey with Dr. Mark Kaley officiating. Burial will be in Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born February 18, 1905, in Janesville, the daughter of William Jasper and Laura Jane Brooks Goben. She married Ralph Chapman in 1931; he died in 1984.

Surviving are one son, Steven Chapman of Hilo, Hawaii; one daughter, Sharon L. Bridges of Cottonwood, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by one brother.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Catherina Crepps

MATTOON - Catherina Anna Crepps, 93, of Mattoon, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday (July 22, 2001) at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.

The funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Herman Niebrugge officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m., and again from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born January 19, 1908, in Breese, the daughter of Henry and Mary Sloth Klein. She married Walter John Crepps in 1926; he died in 1992.

Surviving are one daughter, Sunny Lou Henne of Mattoon; one sister, Anna Crepps of Trenton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, four brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Crepps was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Ladies of the Moose and a former member of the Eagle's Lodge. She retired in 1984 from Central Wholesale.

Richard Kruger

FULTON - Richard D. "Dick" Kruger, 61, of Fulton, formerly of Lovington and Martinsville, died Friday (July 20, 2001) at his residence.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Second Reformed Church in Fulton. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton.

He was born Dec. 7, 1939, in Lincoln, the son of Wilbur and Blanche Brackman Kruger. He married Carole Janes in 1963; she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kristen Perrino of Seattle; one son, Kurt Kruger of Windsor, Maine; one brother, Robert J. Kruger of Norcross, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Kruger owned and operated Dick Kruger Piano Tuning. He was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton, the Fulton Community Fund Board of Directors and the Fulton Community Choir.

JACK E. MURRY

CHARLESTON, IL - Jack E. Murry, age 64 of Charleston, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, July 25, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with Services celebrating his life to follow the visitation, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation and Services will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston.

Jack was born September 9, 1936 in Gibson City, Illinois the son of Harvey E. and Alice L. (Leenerman) Murry. He married D. Jeanette Dillman at the First Christian Church in Charleston on May 31, 1970.

Survivors include his wife D. Jeanette Murry of Charleston; two sons, Jeffrey A. Baker and his wife Connie of Champaign, Illinois and John E. Baker of Arkansas; three grandchildren, Jeff Baker, Jr. of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Jordan E. Baker of Charleston and Joshua Baker of Greenup, Illinois. He was preceded by his parents.

Jack was a member of The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts and Delta Pi Epsilon Fraternity. Prior to accepting the position of Associate Professor in the Lumpkin College of Business, Business Education and Administrative Information Systems Department at Eastern Illinois University, he taught Business Education at the former Octavia High School in Colfax and the former Fairbury-Cropsey High School in Fairbury, both in Illinois. He retired from Eastern in 1991. While teaching at Eastern, he served as Faculty Advisor for Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He is a graduate of Gibson City High School, earned his BS in Education from Illinois State University, his Masters and Doctorate in Education from the University of Illinois. Jack enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and loved to read. Jack was blessed with a tremendous sense of humor and overwhelming love for his family.

Raymond Pepperdine

NAPERVILLE - Raymond L. "Ray" Pepperdine, 85, of Naperville, formerly of Mattoon, died Sunday (July 22, 2001) at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Naperville.

The visitation will be noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home in Naperville. A private burial will follow.

He was born March 17, 1916, in Moultrie County, the son of Walter and Ethel Finley Pepperdine. He married Alice Mae Hottel in 1948; she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Ritchie Pepperdine of Effingham and Tony Pepperdine of Iowa; two daughters, Cheryl Meeker of south Danville and Peggy Wray of Elizabeth; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one great-grandson.

Mr. Pepperdine was a carpenter.

Tim Austin

OCONEE - Tim R. Austin, 42, of Oconee, died at 2:15 a.m. Friday (July 20, 2001) at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses, Shelbyville Congregation, in Tower Hill, with Curtis L. Crosby officiating.

He was born Jan. 15, 1959, in Mattoon, the son of James and Ann (nee Jackson) Austin. He married Kathryn Townsend in 1994. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Lance Austin of Oconee; one daughter, Danielle Winklejohn of Champaign; one step-daughter, Christina Clausman of Terre Haute, Ind.; his father, James Austin of Bradenton, Fla.; his mother, Ann Jackson of Mattoon; stepfather, Bill Murphy of Sullivan; three brothers, Richard Spear of Arizona, James Austin, Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., and Danny Murphy of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Vicki Dault of Las Vegas, Nev., Cheryl Click and Susan Worstell, both of Mattoon; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Mr. Austin was a plumber pipe-fitter for All Tri-R Inc., of Pana, for 20 years.

STEPHEN C. BRANDT, SR.

CHARLESTON, IL - ­Stephen C. Brandt, Sr., age 70 of rural Lerna, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2001 at his home. Visitation will be this evening (Monday) from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) with Pastor Ray Finney officiating. Visitation and Services will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston. Interment, with Military Rites conducted by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston, will be held in Lindsey Cemetery, east of Oilfield, Illinois.

Steve was born February 10, 1931 in Kansas, Illinois the son of Cecil and Ella (Hite) Brandt. He married Vera Ruth Warner in Marshall, Illinois on May 6, 1966.

Survivors include his wife Ruth; four sons, Stephen Brandt, Jr. and his wife Brenda and Tony Warner, all of Westfield, Illinois, Terry Brandt and his wife Donna of Columbia City, Indiana and Todd Coleman and his wife JoLee of Effingham, Illinois; three daughters, Sharon VanNess and her husband Ron and Shella Fite, all of Mattoon, Illinois and Stephanie Schrock and her husband Lewis of Lerna; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Layton Brandt and his wife Gloria of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Everdine Ballard of Charleston. He was preceded by his parents; one son, George Brandt; two brothers, Jim Brandt and Warren Brandt; and one sister, Mary Stooksbury.

Steve was a member of the Salisbury Church. He retired from Service Equipment Company of Mattoon as a Truck Driver. A Military Veteran, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Many of his friends and fellow drivers will remember him as a "coffee regular" at Gill's Restaurant in Mattoon. His hobbies were reading, watching NASCAR events on television and rebuilding and repairing bicycles for his grandchildren. His family will warmly remember him as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Memorials in honor of Steve may be made to his family. Memorial gifts may be made at the visitation or services, or mailed to Adam Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
